Would a dragon be a good birthday gift?

“Daddy.” You caught your dad’s attention, who was talking with your older brother Charlie, who had come to visit for your upcoming birthday. “We need to negotiate.”

Charlie laughed and stroked your hair. “Negotiate, baby Weasley?”

You huffed and sat in the little chair you brought with you, facing your dad and brother. “My birthday is soon, Mommy says it’s tomorrow. And I already know what I want.”

“What do you want, sweetheart? I’ll get it for you,” your dad said happily.

“A dragon.”

“What?” Dad exclaimed. “YES!” You crossed your arms, and Charlie started laughing. “A dragon! Well, that’s a big request, but… do you know what kind of dragon you want, little one? There are so many species: Hungarian Horntails, Norwegian Ridgebacks... maybe a Chinese Fireball dragon?” He played along, thinking you were joking.

“Hrn- What?” You couldn’t even pronounce it. “I don’t know, but I want a big one.”

“Are you serious?” Charlie asked, and when you nodded, he realized you weren’t playing. “But sweetheart... a dragon is too much for this house, and you’re still a baby, it’s a big responsibility.”

“Mom always says that on birthdays you ask for what you want, and that’s what I want! Also, you have a lot of dragons as pets, you can share one with me.” You huffed childishly.

“What Charlie says is true, my little one. We could get you a toy, a book…”

“I want a dragon...” Charlie stroked your head. “You’re too small... I promise that when you’re bigger, I’ll teach you everything so you can be like me, but for now, you’ll have to settle for that. Is that okay, sweetheart?”

You nodded, a little sad. Seeing you like that, Charlie just wanted to figure out how to cheer you up.

“Come on, don’t be like that, baby. Look, after your birthday, I’ll take you to see some dragons. Would that be okay?” You smiled happily and hugged your brother.

“YES! I want to see dragons! Thank you, brother!” Charlie looked at you happily and nodded.

The next day, it was your birthday. You were woken up by Fred & George, who couldn’t wait to show you your birthday gift. You smiled happily.

“Happy birthday, Y/N.” They both exclaimed at the same time. You hugged them happily and saw the gift they prepared for you, it was a necklace.

“It changes shape with your emotions. George and I enchanted it... we hope you like it.” You put it on right away, and the first emotion you felt, happiness, made the pendant change into the shape of a star.

“I love it, it’s pretty, pretty…” You hugged them. “Thank you, Feddie and Georgie, I love you.” The twins felt happy from your words toward them.

When you went downstairs, you were bombarded with hugs and kisses from the whole family, you couldn’t say you weren’t happy. Hermione had given you a beautiful book with illustrations of dragons, it was a Muggle book, but you felt so happy and hugged her a lot.

Harry had gifted you a dragon plushie, clearly inspired by your absurd request to have a real dragon. Harry also added a little card that said, “For my little sister.”

Percy and Ron had pooled their savings to buy a little tea set with cups that changed color. While Charlie had given you a ticket for a dragon show that would take place soon. You hugged everyone and received all your gifts with excitement. Bill hadn’t been able to attend because of his work, but he had sent you a talking card where he promised that as soon as he returned, he’d give you your gift.

In the evening, your parents had decorated the whole living room, and a small cake awaited you with candles shaped like the number 4. Everyone sang the birthday song while you sat happily in the chair. When you tried to blow out the candles, you couldn’t, and you got frustrated. You heard Fred & George laughing, looked at them seriously, and your gaze was so intense that they immediately jumped in and undid the spell. You blew out the candles, and everyone clapped. Your little chubby cheeks turned pink, and they started to hurt from so many smiles.

You were so happy to have been born into the Weasley family and to be the little baby of everyone, in such a lively and happy family.
