Chapter 1; Part 1
It was breakfast when Regulus approached Remus. He did not spare his brother or anyone else who sat at the table a single glance eyes locking on Remus. Remus felt like a rabbit about to be locked between a wolves jaws. Which was ridiculous, really, he should be more worried about other's necks being caught in his. He should hardly be anxious of what other's thought of him, he had bigger problems he tried reasoning with himself.
"The prefect rounds and duties." Regulus dryly stated.
Remus noticed the paper being held out to him and hastily took it. Regulus retreated back to the Slytherin table without another word. He sat between Evan Rosier and Barty Crouch Jr., Remus had noticed them often in eachother's company.
"You okay, Sirius?" James preaked up, breaking the silence. Sirius wore a sneer, even with his face bunched up he looked handsome. "Yeah. He struts up here and doesn't even have the balls to look at me." He complained. Peter chimed in, "Of course he wouldn't look at ya, you're sitting right next to James. He didn't want to have see his ugly mug if he could help it."
Sirius let out a boisterous laugh. James protested "Hey!", and reached across the table to dig his hand playfully into Peter's hair. The blonde headed boy knocked his hands away and fixed his hair.
Remus watched his friends, a crooked smile on his face. Lily Evans took a seat next to him. "You boys seem extra loud this morning." She comments. "Lily!" James exclaimed. "You look great today."
She was unsociable before coffeeand bore a glare into him which lacked any real bite. James smiled at her, leaning across the table. "Do you still want to study with me this year, I could use all the help I can get." He asked. She nodded, "of course, you'd fail without me."
James gave her a very dorky smile if Remus ever saw one. "James, you can't forget our prank this afternoon. We worked on it all summer and I would hate to see it go down the drain because you're too busy swooning." Sirius reminded him. "You're not too busy, right, Remus?" Sirius now turned to the boy across him. "As Lily put it, 'you'd fail without me.'" Remus quoted. Sirius gave him a cocky grin. "Peter will be there, obviously, as well." Sirius decided for him. Peter didn't look displeased at all at the prospect of being included.
Peter began asking Sirius about his classes and comparing their time tables. James went on about Qudditch to Lily, he was excited to see the new talents at try outs. Remus slowly got up from the table, the benches being a bit harder for him to get his leg over. He took his cane and bag, Lily turned to him. "See you later, make sure you tell Black off if he steps out of line."
Remus chuckled, "I'm sure that will go smoothly for me." Lily gave his hand an encouraging squeeze. Remus quickly left the dining hall.

The day strode by and the evening settled in, it was a comfort to be back in the elaborate halls of Hogwarts Remus thought. "Marauders' Annual First Day Prank", as James had coined the name, went without a hitch. They easily, with Remus's spell work, coated the entire Great Hall with honey before lunch. They even, much to Lily's disapproval despite still being quite upset at him, coated Severus in honey as soon as he entered the hall.
It had been obvious the culprits but Sirius still managed to convince McGonagall to not give them detention. Something about his boyish charm looking ever guilty smoothed her over like butter. It probably helped that it was their last year at Hogwarts and she expected them to be more rambunctious then ever.
Remus was making his way back from the library to begin his rounds as prefect. Regulus stood waiting outside the Great Hall, peering at his silver heirloom watch. Remus already knew what the boy was going to say before the words dropped from his mouth, "You're late."
"I dont know why everyone says you're entitled, when you make such plesant company?" Remus deflected. Regulus eyes casted over him, "I'm glad you think so, I would hate for you to get bored." Remus couldn't help but crack a small lopsided smile.
