Chapter 1; Part 2
Regulus had not uttered a word during the entire time for the duration of thier rounds of the school. Which was more then fine with Remus, he enjoyed the time to think. It wasn't until the end that Regulus gave his partner a brief goodbye.
The next day Sirius had jumped on his bed, "Wake up, Moony!" He shouted. "You're a cruel man, Padfoot." James pitied as he put on his jumper. "If I have to wake at the butt crack of dawn so does everyone else." Sirius told off and started towards his next victim, a poor Wormtail in his sights. Remus groaned and rolled over in his sheets. It was too late, he had already been woken. "Damn you, Padfoot, if it wasn't already difficult to get any sleep I go to bed late because of prefect duties." Remus cursed.
Sirius having just shaked Peter awake, turned to the boy. "You should have thought of that before ditching us to be a prefect." He jeered. "And you shouldn't of joined the Qudditch team if you detest waking so early." Remus snarled back. Peter gave a big huff then flung his sheets off of himself. "How do you two have enough energy to argue in the morning." He rasped, before getting up to get ready.
Remus glanced and Sirius over the covers, the ebony haired boy was sporting a wide grin. Remus rolled his eyes and gave up, relinquishing his warm sheets.
As much as he hated it, Sirius had already been calculated into his routine. Remus had become an expert over the years at creating fail safes to the choas ensued by the mystery that was Sirius Black. This came in handy when James and Sirius thought to stir up trouble during third, Remus had to hand it to them that they had notably became less troublesome as they gotten older.
This, however, had not earned them any leniency from any of the teachers. Not that Remus could blame them, he just wished he wouldn't be dragged into the center of all of it.
While Remus was walking to his next class he had stumbled apon Sirius and James starting a fight with a Ravenclaw. Remus dragged his hand down his face, already exasperated before he began "And what, may I entail, is going on here?"
James turned with a mighty glare, which was soon replaced with a soft gaze and an accompanying smirk once he realized it was Remus. "This dunderhead seems to think he can talk whatever crap he wants, we're just letting him smell the shit he's spewing." James accused. "I can say whatever I like, who are you to tell what others what they can or cannot say!" Argued back the ravenclaw student, pointing an angry finger at James. Sirius stepped infront of James, "There is a difference between saying your opinion and calling someone that word." Sirius said with a bite.
Remus put his arm out between his best mate and the other student, noticing how heated the argument had gotten. "Let's not fight in the hall, that's a lot of paperwork." Remus tried soothing them. Sirius visibly settled down, this hadn't worked with the other half as much. "Don't touch me." Battered the ravenclaw, pushing Remus aside. This made Remus stumble back and he hadn't been quick enough to catch himself and fell to the floor.
Remus cursed to himself, not because he was in pain. If he was honest he would admit he became an expert at falling over the years but he was far too embarrassed to say it aloud. The main focus that occupied Remus's thought was how irrational James and Sirius could be when it came to their friends getting hurt. When Remus looked up, it was just as he expected. Sirius had gripped the student by the collar, threating him with his wand. While James had held the Ravenclaw's hand to prevent him from using their own wand. Leave it to James to run on instinct and guess correctly which hand was their dominant one.
Remus had just sat up when a hand grabbed his elbow pulling him off the floor. His brown eyes meet those fimilar steel gray ones. Regulus seemed to glance Remus over before interrupting the onslaught of fighting. He managed to disarm Sirius's wand swiftly. He stepped between both sides and separated them. "You will all have detention for a week; And you should start explaining yourselves before I make it a month." He commanded. Sirius glared at Regulus but didn't say a word. James jumped in, "We didn't do anything wrong, they started it." He pointed at the Ravenclaw.
The Ravenclaw protested, "Me? You're the one who tried to tan my hide." James looked as if he might pounce on the student again, "That's more then you deserve, toad." Before anymore could be said, or done, Regulus spoke again. "Minus 20 points to Griffindor." James's jaw dropped, the Ravenclaw grinned at thier misfortune but it quickly fell at Regulus's next words. "And minus 50 to Ravenclaw and three weeks more detention."
Regulus walked off, not bothering to look back.
The Ravenclaw didn't stick around, making their way to class muttering to themselves. Sirius and James didn't bother to stop them, instead turning to Remus. "You alright?" Sirius asked him. Remus nodded, "you?" He returned. Sirius sneered, "Yeah. I'm fine." Sirius wore his heart on his sleeve and Remus could tell he didn't want to talk anymore on the subject of Regulus Black.
The full moon neared, Remus could feel it's pull grow steadily every day that past. His mood became irritable, his senses heightened and disoriented him. Remus made his way out of the medic ward, Madam Pomfrey brewed him wolfsbane for each full moon but had been busy with stopping the spread of Fire Flu that had been contracted to several students after a student visited a dragon's nest with their uncle over summer.
Remus knew he was being illogical with his bitterness towards his own misfortune and that slamming doors would not help his situation he still couldn't reason with his emotions. Every small inconvenience became an unforgivable offense, the stress was eating away at him. Madam Pomfrey offered to brew him some right away after having realized she forgotten but needed Remus to go fetch the ingredients from the Potions classroom. Meaning he had to go request them from Professor Slughorn, who he was in little mood to entertain on a good day let alone on the eve of a full moon.
His cane loudly struck the ground with each step, as he put more force then necessary into it. Eventually, Remus reached the Potions door. He wrapped three knocks to the door, he could hear muffled voices coming from the otherside of the deep oak wood. After a moment, the door swung open and there stood no other then the one that reluctantly was becoming a habit of running into this semester. Regulus Black.
