Discussions and Revelations

Sirius Black could not believe his ears, he had a daughter that he had never known about, who was standing in front of him clearly aware that he was her father. Sirius could do nothing in that moment besides blink at her, completely unsure of what to say to this girl that he had just met.

Luckily, his husband stepped up obviously knowing that someone had to tell her something, make some kind of polite conversation. "Hello Carina, I am Remus Lupin, Sirius's husband and your step-father."

"It is Miss Black to you, and you are no step-father of mine." she snarled at him in response to his previous statement.

By now, everyone except James, Lily, Remus, Sirius and Harry had left the room, and everyone still present stared at her, shocked at her rude and cruel manner when talking to someone that in their minds had done nothing to hurt her.

"Au revoir." she told them a look of pure hatred on her face.

But just as she was turning to leave, she was interrupted for a second time that day, this time not by Sirius but by a different voice, it was the voice of her uncle who had evidently just arrived at Hogwarts and was severely annoyed about what had happened to his niece.

"She will not be competing and that is final."

The doors opened and Regulus entered accompanied by Dumbledore, McGonagall, Barty Crouch and Madame Maxine. Carina went over to her uncle, immensely grateful that he was there, as she knew that he would do absolutely everything in his power to get her out of the wretched tournament.

"Lui lo sa, Sirius sa che sono sua figlia. Silente mi chiedeva del torneo e gli ho detto che mi sarei rifiutato di parlare se tu non fossi stato qui. Tuttavia, ti ho chiamato zio per sbaglio e lui ha messo insieme i pezzi. Non voglio parlare con lui, confido che riuscirai a risolvere la cosa." ("He knows, Sirius knows I'm his daughter. Dumbledore was asking me about the tournament and I told him I would refuse to talk if you hadn't been here. However, I called you uncle by mistake and he put the pieces together. I do not want to speak to him, I trust that you will be able to sort it out.") she spoke all this in Italian as it was a pretty safe bet to assume that Sirius knew French because most Pureblood families spoke French, and on top of that the Blacks had a lot of French roots.

Clearly thinking the same thing, Regulus replied to her also in Italian, "So che per te dev'essere terribile, ma prima affrontiamo il problema più grande. Dopo averlo sistemato, potremo preoccuparci della questione con il tuo padre biologico." ("I know that that must be terrible for you, but let us deal with the larger problem at hand first. After that is sorted, we can worry about the issue with your biological father.")

Then Regulus turned his attention to Dumbledore, "She will not compete in this stupid, godforsaken tournament. That is final, I could no care less about what you have to say on the matter."

Everybody kept repeatedly arguing with Dumbledore, insisting that the two children should not have to compete in a tournament that had a reputation for being extremely dangerous and having an extremely high death toll.

This went on for a good fifteen minutes until Barty Crouch interrupted the chaos, "The Triwizard Tournament is a binding magical contract, Mr Potter and Miss Black have no choice but to compete."

Everyone stared at him in complete horror, the room was so silent that you could hear a pin drop, no one knew how to deal with the news, they all were well aware that if a contract is magically binding then there was nothing they could do to stop it.

At this moment, Carina decided to speak up breaking the deafening silence, "So it is settled then, I will have to compete."

Barty nodded and Carina took this as her cue to leave, just before she exited the room Regulus spoke to her, "Dopodiché, possiamo discutere della situazione con tuo padre?" ("After this, can we please discuss the situation with your father?")

"Quell'uomo non è mio padre." ("That man is not my father.") she replied sharply, then turning her heel she exited the Champion's room her skirt flowing.

Dumbledore, McGonagall, Barty Crouch and Madame Maxine all followed her out of the room as well.

Just after her departure, Sirius turned to face his brother, noticing that despite not seeing him for almost 15 years, Regulus still looked like a well dressed Pureblood man, with grey eyes and dark hair he was ever a member of the Nobel and Most Ancient House of Black, Sirius detested this, it reminded him too much of his own father.

"I have a daughter, I have a daughter and you did not tell me. What on earth were you thinking Regulus? How dare you not tell me about this!"

To Sirius's surprise, Regulus did not look annoyed or taken aback by this, instead he looked positively unbothered by this comment.

"Magnolia told me to keep her safe, away from you. She told me that you wanted nothing to do with her or Carina. I only obeyed her wishes."

Sirius did not understand this, of course he would want to know his own daughter, but before he could say anything on the matter, a specific memory came rushing back to him like a tidal wave that he could not stop.

Sirius heard a loud knock at the door and went to open it. Standing before him was a woman that he only barely recognised as Magnolia Selwyn standing on the porch. The only reason that he recognised her was that she was present at some of the Pureblood events that he was forced to go to and he sometimes saw her hanging out with Regulus at Hogwarts, being in the same year as Regulus and a fellow member of the Slytherin House it was natural that the two of them would make friends.

"I need to speak to you, about what happened the other night."

Sirius was completely confused about what she meant, he had not seen this woman since he left school, before he could tell her that, she continued speaking. "There is no easy way to tell you this, but I am pregnant and you are the child's father."

Sirius stared at her in utter shock, he could think of no reason why a woman that he had not seen since his time in school would come and claim to be pregnant with his child.

"Your lying, we have not been in the same room as each other since school." he told her.

"You don't remember do you." she exclaimed in disbelief.

Just as he shook his head not only in bewilderment but to deny something that he believed never happened in the first place, Magnolia spoke again, but this time her tone was more severe, angry and threatening.

"Mark my words Sirius Orion Black, there will come a day when you regret what you told me tonight. You will probably forget this conversation, maybe try to squash it down, or perhaps claim that it never in fact happened but there will come a time when you will want nothing more than to take everything that you said here tonight back. There will come a time when you will beg for forgiveness and guilt will destroy you, but you won't be able to change anything, you will live the rest of your life in utter misery and pain, constantly wishing you could change the events of tonight. That is a promise that I intend to keep Sirius Orion Black."

With that Magnolia disapparated, leaving Sirius standing by himself in the doorway a look of pure bewilderment on his face.

"I thought she was lying," everyone in the room turned to look at Sirius, who by now had an expression of pure guilt on his face, "Magnolia came to me and told me that she was pregnant, I told her that she had to have been lying. If I'd have known that she was telling the truth I would have done anything to help her. In my defence, I had no memory of seeing the witch since our time at school."

What Magnolia had told him about guilt consuming his mind, was evidently coming true, he only wished that he could change the past.

Regulus addressed his brother, his voice was laced with malice and contempt, "You didn't even recognise her. You want a reason why you weren't in Carina's life, well there you go."

Sirius stared at his brother guilt eating away at his conscience, "Tell me Reg, what would you have done?"

Regulus however chose to ignore Sirius's previous statement, "You disgust me Sirius Orion Black." He then exited the room, leaving everyone who remained in utter shock, sorrow and guilt.
