Scars
Hermione didn’t emerge from her old room until the next day. Teddy slept fitfully the whole time. It was the next day that caused shit to hit the fan once more.
She and Teddy decided to go out to Mystic Falls, staying to more of the touresty attractions than stuff the locals would be into. She managed to bypass Elena and Jeremy, and Stefen (who wasn’t her biggest fan, from what she could tell). As they went, Hermione explained things to Teddy, before they settled on going to The Grill for lunch. Her first mistake.
“What can I get you- Hermione?”
”Matt. It’s good to see you.” Hermione greeted with a smile.
”Caroline told me you were back in town. It’s been a while.” He said, shifting his feet and smiling politely.
”I’m not surprised, considering what I remember about her. To be honest I haven’t seen Jeremy and Elena since they came out for that Christmas years ago. So, I’m just trying to catch up with them.” Hermione explained quickly.
“This must be Teddy? I heard he wasn’t feeling well yesterday when you got in.”
Hermione nodded. “Teddy, this is Aunt Elena’s friend Matt. Matt, this is my godson Teddy.”
”Hi.” Teddy said shyly.
“what can I get you?” Matt said after a moment.
They ordered and waited for the food to arrive, Hermione and Teddy coloring on the the kids menu. Her second mistake.
She didn’t see them until they slipped into the opposite seat. She jerked up, starring wide eyed at the two, very familiar men.
“What a delightful surprise.” The dark haired man said, an accent peeking through his words.
”It wasn’t hard to figure out where you were going next.” The other growled, his teeth flashing. “Now, you’re going to come with us, quietly. You draw your wand, or try to escape, we’ll start killing muggles, and your precious little Teddy.”
Hermione scooped Teddy up into her arms, cradling him close as she watched them carefully.
”How did you find us?” Hermione hissed.
Greyback grinned. “For one so smart, you sure don’t know much on magical scars.”
Hermione shifted in her seat, glancing around The Grill. She spotted Matt watching her, his phone pressed to his ear. Her eyes darted back to the two men across from her, before she slowly stood. She clutched Teddy close to her chest, whispering for him to hold onto her tightly. Greyback and Dohvlo flanked both of her sides. Dohvlo gripped her upper arm the moment they were outside, dragging her down the street and down and alleyway.
She waited until they walked her into the woods, before acting. In a quick movement, her wand fell into her hand, as she flung her body backwards. The first spell leaving her lips silently as she aimed it at Grayback. The second casting just as quickly towards Dohvlo, before she was running further into the woods. She sent a patronus off to Harry as she ran.
”They found us. Come now if you can.”
A nearby tree exploded on her right. She ducked and used her body to shield Teddy. She took off in another direction, using the angle to cast off a bombarda at the ground in front of the pair. She was getting tired, and her ankle was acting up. She hissed, twisting to cushion Teddy, as her foot caught on a breached root. She cursed, and desperately tried to get up, only for a wand to be pointed directly at Teddy.
”I warned you once, don’t make me say it again.” Dohvlo hissed, as Grayback hauled them up.
“Get off me!” She shouted, struggling to get away, but very aware of the fact there was a wand pointed at Teddy. Teddy whimpered, his fists clutching at her shirt.
“Brightest Witch of Her Age. I can’t wait to take you back to the pack. After Dohvlo has had his fill of you, you’ll finally be mine. After all, we didn’t get to have much time together at the manor.” Grayback growled.
Hermione flinched at the reminder, the claw marks on her back burning. “Get the hell away from me!”
Just as she got ready to decide, whether to fight back or see if she could portkey Teddy out, her body jerked as Graybacks hold on her disappeared. Using the distraction to her advantage, she disarmed Dohvlo, snapping his wand quickly, before taking off once more.
”Almost there, Teddy. It’s ok.” She whispered.
”Mimi? They-“
”it’s alright. We’re going to find a place to hide until Uncle Harry gets here.”
She finally made it to the spot where the high schoolers used to the throw parties. She ran and hid next to a nearby creek. She landed on her bum, shifting Teddy back so she could look him over.
“are you hurt anywhere?” She asked gently, trying to take deep calming breathes.
”I’m not hurt, Aunt Mimi. You’re hurt.” He poked at a scratch on her cheek.
Hermione winced, but nodded. “I’m ok. Aunt Mimi will fix it up once we get back to Aunt Elena’s house.”
A stick snapped from behind her, she twisted and aimed her wand. Tears gathered at the sight of her best friend.
”When we were on the run, what did we both talk about next to the river?” She asked.
Harry smiled. “That we should just stay out there. Live our lives there, grow old together. Then we both remembered we have people waiting for us.”
Hermione scrambled to stand, launching her and Teddy into Harry’s arms. Silent sobs wracked her body.
“Did you get them?” She asked, pulling back enough to hand Teddy over.
”Damon got a hold of Dohvlo, but Grayback got away. How did they find you? You’ve only been here a day.”
Hermione swallowed around the lump in her throat. “They said they can track my scars. I have scars from both of them, and they can track me through them. I don’t know how, that’s what they told me.”
”Well, let’s get you back to Elena’s. We need to heal you.”
”Well, that was certainly fun.” Damon said, as he leaned against a tree. “Did you get the wolf?”
Harry shook his head. “He ran when he realized you had shown up. He’ll be back though.”
Damon sneered at his words, before focusing on Hermione. “Do you want some of my blood?”
Hermione considered it, a little curious how the vampire blood would mix with the healing wounds and scars. “As much as I want to, I can’t risk it. Sorry.”
Damon shrugged, before walking over and wrapping and arm around her waist to help steady her. “Well, let’s get you back to the house then.”
they walked slowly, the only sound being Harry and Teddy catching up. “How did you find me?” Hermione asked Damon.
”Donovan. He doesn’t have much of a used, but this time he was alright.”
Hermione opened her mouth to say something else, when another voice spoke up. “Well, who have you got here Damon?”
Hermione stilled at the voice. “None of you business Klaus.” Damon rolled his eyes.
”Now, normally such a thing wouldn’t peel my interest, but there’s a scent that’s familiar. Who is that on your arm?”
Hermione sighed, peeking out from behind Harry, who had stepped in front of her to shield her. “It’s just me, Klaus.” Hermione called out, shifting so he could see her.
”Hermione? What are you doing here?” Klaus asked, eyes widening in shock.
”oh, you know, running from evil wizards and a werewolf. A typical day for me.” She shrugged.
”Are you bleeding?” He stepped forwards, trying to scan her with his eyes.
“I’m, alright Klaus.” She waved him off.
”what are you doing here?”
”Actually, I used to live in Mystic Falls. From what I’ve gathered you’s been messing with my siblings, Elena and Jeremy. I also heard the bitch is alive.”
Klaus rolled his eyes. “Hermione, Bekah told you not to refer to our mother like that.”
She shrugged. “If the shoe fits and all that.”
”Have you told Kol that you’re here?” Klaus asked.
Hermione shook her head. “Nope. I just got in yesterday. And it looks like I’ll be leaving again soon.”
”Aunt Mimi?” Teddy called softly.
“What is it Teddy-Bear?”
”I’m sleepy.”
Hermione reached for him, and with practiced ease settled him on her hip. His head resting on his shoulder. “Don’t worry buddy. You can sleep. Uncle Harry and Uncle Damon will keep us safe.” She whispered, pressing a kiss to his brow.
”You have a kid?” Klaus asked, eyes narrowed.
”yes. I’m his godmother.”
”Where are his parents?”
”Killed on the war.” Hermione said through gritted teeth. “Don’t tell Kol here. Or any of the others for that matter. I’ll be gone soon, so it doesn’t matter.”
Klaus didn’t say anything, simply disappearing. Hermione sighed, adjusting her hold on Teddy. Damon scoffed, scooping both her and Teddy into his arms, as we walked the rest of the way to the house.
