The last time

Harry patched Hermione up after they settled Teddy down. He was still upset after they made it back to the Gilbert household. Stefen, Bonnie, Caroline, Matt, Jeremy, and Elena were waiting for them to get back. They all demanded answers, but Harry couldn’t say anything to them, and Hermione refused to say anything. Damon, for once, followed the lead of someone else.

“Mione, what’s going on?” Jeremy asked, as Harry wrapped a bandage around her arm.

Hermione smiled gently at her little brother. “Grayback got away. Dohovlo is in custody. Now, we do research to figure out how their tracking me.”

”How are they doing that exactly?” Stefen asked.

”My scars.” She shrugged.

Harry groaned. “Not again.”

She grinned sheepishly at him. “I mean, it’s different this time. I don’t have a mental link like you did, Harry.”

He groaned again. “For once, I wish it would be simple. Just once would be nice.”

Hermione kissed his cheek. “Not with us, Harry.”

”What are you playing at with my brother?” Stefen asked.

Hermiones smile slipped from her lips. “Nothing. Why do you care?”

Stefen glared. “I always cared.”

Hermione shrugged. “Not from what I’ve heard. In fact, all you do is blame him for being a vampire, when it was you that forced him to turn in the first place. All you see is a villain, but that’s not true. You just want him to be the villian, because then you don’t look like the asshole brother. So next time you question someone, take a look in the mirror.” Hermione stood from her seat and walked past him. She heard Harry say something before she made it to the next room, but couldn’t make out what it was.

”I just want to talk to her.” A voice said from the doorway.

”Why? She doesn’t want to see any of you.” Harry’s voice responded.

”Please, I just-I need to explain something to her.” As Hermione moved closer, she could make out the voice now. Kol. She held her breath, making sure she didn’t move in order to not draw attention to her.

“Why? You broke her heart, when she needed you.” Her best friend said.

”I-I thought she would be safer away from me. She could go into hiding or something. But when I heard that she disappeared, I tried to come back. But Klaus daggered me before I could even make it to the front door.”

Tears gathered in her eyes. She desperately wanted to hear this, the reasoning behind her heart break. But she couldn’t do this now. Greyback was still at large. Teddy wasn’t safe yet.

“I understand that. But she has bigger things to worry about right now. She doesn’t want to see you. Leave it at that.” She heard the door close. Heard the wind blow outside, before opening her own door.

“it took everything in me not to talk to him.” She whispered, moving to fall into Harry’s arms.

“I know.” He whispered, rubbing her back soothingly.

“I’m tired Harry. I want to come home.” She breathed, like a secret was finally revealed.

Harry sighed, holding her tighter for a moment. “Soon, Hermione. Soon.”
