It's Too Damn Cold
Percy Weasley was a 6th Year Student at Hogwarts. Nothing too exciting, other than spending time with the infamous Harry Potter who just so happened to stay with them for the Winter Break. Percy was always in his room, sending letters to two of his friends – Penelope Clearwater who his parents and siblings think he's dating, and Oliver Wood, the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain.
It was a cool crisp morning – to which Percy dislikes. Merlin, did he hate cold mornings? Yes. He hated cold mornings so much, that today he didn't feel like getting up so early. So he snuggled into his three blankets and didn't wake up until a knock was heard on his bedroom door. "Come in," Percy mumbled loud enough for whoever was outside to hear.
The door opened, and Charlie Weasley, the second eldest brother, poked his head into Percy's room. "Hey little brother," he said affectionately. "Breakfast is almost ready."
"Mhm, thanks," Percy replied, yawning, but still staying in bed and snuggled up.
"You're not sick are you?" Charlie asked worriedly, coming in further into his room.
"I'm just cold," Percy responded truthfully.
"Not a fan of the cold weather are you?" Charlie asked, sitting down on Percy's chair.
"Yup. . . ," Percy replied his voice muffled a bit as he stayed under his blankets. "Not a fan of the cold weather."
"You're still going to get up," Charlie said, crossing his arms. "You can't just stay in bed and miss breakfast. Mum's going to get that arse of yours out of bed soon."
"Oh be quiet," Percy muttered, still snuggled up in his blankets. "I'll be down in a few minutes. Please get out of my room now."
"Oh fine," Charlie huffed, though his voice had no bite. He passed by Percy's bed before leaving, ruffled his brother's hair then left with a grin after Percy swatted his hand away.
Charlie went downstairs, leaving his younger brother alone in his room. He walked into the kitchen where his mother was cooking up some bacon and eggs. Molly Weasley looked up at her second eldest child and tilted her head before asking, "Why isn't Percy with you? He's always the first one up."
"He says it's too cold to get up," Charlie replied, shrugging.
"I forgot that he hates cold mornings," Mrs. Weasley said after she finished cooking up her kids' breakfast and began setting it on the table. "Kids – breakfast!"
At the sound of Mrs. Weasley’s call for breakfast, the Weasley Siblings, plus Harry and Hermione, came from the living room and sat around the table, some still in their pajamas, and began eating the breakfast that Mrs. Weasley prepared for them.
“Where’s Percy?” Ginny asked her mother. She knew that Percy Weasley was the first to arrive downstairs since he always woke up early.
“Still in bed,” Mrs. Weasley replied to her youngest. “He hates the cold.”
“Hates the cold?” Fred and George asked at the same time.
“Yes. . . And don’t you tease your big brother about it,” Mrs. Weasley said, glaring at the twins.
“We won’t,” the twins replied cheerfully, but knowing them they most likely would tease Percy about it later.
Mrs. Weasley sighed and shook her head before she heard the sound of footsteps coming from the stairs. Percy finally showed up in his red jumper with a large gold letter P in the middle, and sat down next to the younger kids, Ron and Ginny.
“Morning,” Percy muttered before a yawn escaped his mouth.
“Morning Perce,” the whole table said back to him.
“You look half dead,” Fred pointed out, raising an eyebrow.
“Mhm,” Percy simply replied, as he began to eat his scrambled eggs from his plate, before Mrs. Weasley shot another glare at Fred, signaling him to be quiet and not to disturb Percy.
Everyone at the table continued to chatter after they’d eaten breakfast until Errol, the Weasley’s owl, flew into the window again just by delivering a post. “That damn owl,” Mrs. Weasley cursed, as Bill went to grab Errol from outside, and took the letters from him.
“We’ve got letters,” Bill said, handing them out to the people who were sent a letter. Hermione took hers from Bill, thanking him, and opened her letter from her parents. Fred and George were both looking at George’s letter that Lee Jordan sent over, stating that he’d come over on Christmas Eve. Charlie got a letter from work, telling him that a new dragon had hatched at the Sanctuary.
Percy’s got two letters. One from Penelope Clearwater, and the other from Oliver Wood. Since Percy likes his privacy, he kept those two letters closed until he was in his room.
"Penelope and our Captain?" the twins asked as they peered over Percy's shoulder. "Love letters?"
"Shut up!" Percy scolded them, shooing them away, and they left giggling.

Everyone left to do their own thing. The twins, Ron, Ginny, Hermione, and Harry were all bundled up and outside in the snow, throwing snowballs at each other. Percy was busy back in his room, reading the two letters he’d gotten. He wanted to save Oliver’s letter for last so he read Penelope’s first:
Dear Percy,
Hope this letter finds you well. I hope you’re doing well and getting into the holiday spirit! With Christmas approaching, I wanted to send a little festive cheer your way. This time of year is so magical—the lights, the treats, and the joy of being together make everything special. I’m thankful for friends like you and hope we can create more memories this Christmas! Let’s not forget to spread some kindness, too. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas filled with love and happiness! Here’s to a fantastic new year ahead!
Can’t wait to catch up!
Lots of love,
Penelope Clearwater
That was nice of her, Percy thought, after reading the letter. He then put Penelope's letter in his drawer then read Oliver's letter which was written purely by him. No formal speaking whatsoever from the older boy.
Hey Perce!
It's almost Christmas eh? One more week to be exact. Tis the season. I decided to send a letter to you to see how you're doing. . . you hate cold weather as far as I'm concerned. We don't want you sick before Christmas so make sure you bundle up! Oh yeah, Mum and I are planning to come over on Christmas Eve, so make sure you're prepared to see me!
Lots of love,
Oliver Wood. <3
Percy smiled at the letter. Two different people sent two different types of letters to him. Then a snowball was thrown at his window and made a smack! sound, catching his attention. Percy groaned and opened the window and regretted it since he was greeted with cold air.
"Oi, Percy!" Fred called from outside. Standing next to him were George, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Harry, and Bill. "Care to come outside, will you?"
"It's too damn cold!" Percy called back. "And – achoo! – you should know! I'll be staying inside today," he said as he closed his window again before he got even colder.
The others who were outside the Burrow looked at each other, and shrugged, before Ginny threw a snowball and her older brother, Bill. "Got you!" she shouted, victoriously.
"Oh, you're on!" Bill shouted back, throwing another snowball in his sister's direction.
The laughter continued as the kids ran around the snow-covered yard, throwing snowballs at each other and having a good ol' time while Percy was busy writing back letters in his room.
