The web of chaos

The silence of the Forbidden Forest pressed against Isagi’s ears. The only sound was the distant rustling of leaves in the nighttime breeze, but even that felt eerily muted. Hagrid had gone rigid, his grip tightening around his lantern as the massive acromantula stepped forward. Its eight eyes gleamed in the darkness, reflecting the lantern’s glow like polished obsidian.

Isagi had read about these creatures—giant spiders with an appetite for flesh, highly intelligent, and fiercely territorial.

“Alright, listen up, you two,” Hagrid muttered, his voice lower than usual. “Don’t make any sudden movements. These creatures can be reasoned with, but they ain’t the friendliest sort. We don’t want trouble.”

Shidou, who had been grinning from the moment the acromantula appeared, stepped forward. “You don’t want trouble, but I do,” he said, his golden eyes gleaming with excitement. What the fuck is this guy talking about?

Isagi grabbed his robe. “Are you insane? We’re supposed to get out of here, not fight it!”

Shidou shrugged him off, pointing his wand at the spider. “What’s the fun in that?”

The acromantula let out a low, clicking hiss, its legs shifting as if preparing to pounce..

“Shidou—stop antagonizing it!” Isagi hissed.

Shidou smirked but didn’t back down. Instead, he raised his wand. “Incendio!”

A jet of flame shot from his wand, narrowly missing the creature’s front legs. The acromantula screeched, skittering backward but now fully agitated, “Shit.”

“Shidou, you idiot!” Isagi yelled, reaching for his own wand.

“I’m just warming it up,” Shidou chuckled, twirling his wand between his fingers. “Come on, don’t you feel the thrill?”

“No, I feel the urge to survive, you dumb fu-” Isagi snapped.

The acromantula reared up, fangs glinting with venom. Then it lunged.

“Protego!” Isagi shouted just in time, a shimmering barrier appearing between them and the monstrous spider. The impact sent a tremor up his arms, but the shield held—barely.

Hagrid cursed, stepping forward. “That’s enough! Back off, yeh overgrown pest!”

He swung a massive crossbow off his back, but before he could fire, the acromantula let out an ear-splitting screech. From the darkness beyond the trees, more rustling sounds emerged—dozens of smaller shapes moving within the shadows.

“Oh, brilliant,” Isagi muttered. “It’s not alone.”

Shidou’s grin widened. “Now this is getting interesting.” This bitc-

“Are you serious?” Isagi glared at him. “We’re surrounded, and you’re having fun?”

Hagrid growled. “We need to get outta here. Fast.”

The first acromantula lunged again, and this time, Shidou didn’t wait for Isagi to react. He flicked his wand. “Flipendo!”

A burst of energy shot from his wand, slamming into the spider’s side. It staggered but did not fall, clicking its fangs angrily. Its companions were closing in, the rustling around them growing louder.

“We’re not winning this fight,” Isagi said through gritted teeth. “We need an escape plan.”

Shidou, however, wasn’t listening. He was dodging between the spider’s legs with an almost reckless agility, casting spells with a mad glint in his eyes.

“Shidou, stop playing around!” Isagi snapped.

“I don’t play,” Shidou replied, his breath coming out in excited pants. “I win.” The fuck is this demon talking about?

He flicked his wand. “Depulso!”

A shockwave of force sent one of the smaller acromantulas flying into a tree, but there were too many. Isagi cursed under his breath. If he didn’t do something, they’d be overrun.

“Fine,” Isagi growled, raising his own wand. “You want to fight? Let’s do this properly.”

He inhaled sharply and focused. He could feel the magic in the air, thick and heavy. He remembered what McGonagall had told them about Transfiguration—magic was about will as much as it was about technique.

“Glacius!”

A wave of ice erupted from his wand, spreading across the ground and encasing the nearest spider’s legs in frost. It shrieked, struggling to break free. The sudden cold sent several of the others skittering back.

“Oi, not bad, Isagi!” Shidou laughed. “Didn’t think you had it in you.Because Rin is always lying to me about things, but when hes talking about you he-“

“Less talking, more moving!” Isagi shot back.

Hagrid, seeing the opportunity, took charge. “Now’s our chance! This way!”

They bolted through the trees, Fang barking loudly as the spiders hesitated in the icy terrain. Isagi’s heart pounded as they sprinted, leaping over fallen branches and dodging hanging vines. Behind them, the angry screeches of the acromantulas echoed through the forest.

“Don’t look back!” Hagrid ordered.

But of course, Shidou looked back. “Damn, I kinda wanted to fight a bit longer.”

“You’re insane,” Isagi huffed.

After what felt like an eternity, they finally burst out of the dense forest and into the open fields near Hagrid’s hut. The safety of the castle loomed in the distance. Only then did they slow down, panting heavily.

Hagrid glared at them both. “That was completely reckless. You two nearly got us all killed.”

Shidou stretched, completely unfazed. “Yeah, but we didn’t.”

Isagi shot him an exasperated look. “You caused half the problem!”

Hagrid sighed deeply. “Yer both lucky I don’t march yeh straight to Dumbledore. But detention’s over—get yerselves back to the castle.”

Shidou smirked, nudging Isagi with his elbow. “Admit it—you had fun.”

Isagi groaned. “I almost died.”

Shidou just laughed. “Exactly. Best detention ever.”

Isagi had no response to that. He just shook his head, trudging back to the castle with exhaustion settling into his limbs.

But as much as he hated to admit it, Shidou wasn’t entirely wrong. That had been the most intense night of his time at Hogwarts so far.

And something told him it wouldn’t be the last.
