Detention!?
âNow how did i get-â
.
.
.
âhereâŠâ
âYou two were completely out of line,â Professor Lupin scolded as he paced in front of them. âThat was a practice exercise, not an actual battle. You both ignored my warnings and escalated it far beyond what was necessary.â Â
Shidou, standing next to Isagi, looked thoroughly unbothered. If anything, he seemed amused. âCâmon, Professor. We were just getting into it.â Â
Lupin sighed, rubbing his temples. âAnd thatâs exactly the problem, Mr. Shidou.â He turned to Isagi. âAnd you, Mr. IsagiâI expected better from you.â Â
Isagi winced. He knew he should have controlled himself better, but once Shidou had started attacking so aggressively, he couldnât back down. Â
âAs punishment, both of you will serve detention tonight,â Lupin continued. âYouâll be assisting Professor Hagrid with a task in the Forbidden Forest.â Â
At this, Shidou perked up. âThe Forbidden Forest, huh? Sounds fun.â Â
Isagi, however, had a sinking feeling. Â
---
That evening, Isagi met Shidou near Hagridâs hut. The half-giant was waiting for them, lantern in hand. His massive boarhound, Fang, sat beside him, tail wagging lazily. Â
âAlright, you two,â Hagrid said in his usual gruff yet warm tone. âYer job tonight is simple. Thereâs a group oâ thestrals that need feedinâ deeper in the forest. Iâll be leadinâ ya there, but youâll be doinâ the work.â Â
Shidou looked far too excited for someone serving detention. âThestrals, huh? Arenât they the creepy skeleton horses?â Â
Hagrid frowned. âThey ainât creepy, theyâre misunderstood. Now, letâs get movinâ.â Â
The group ventured into the dark forest, the canopy above blocking out most of the moonlight. The deeper they went, the thicker the air feltâheavy with the scent of damp earth and wild magic. Â
Isagi kept his wand close. He wasnât scared, but he wasnât exactly comfortable either. Â
Shidou, on the other hand, walked like he owned the place. âYâknow, this beats sitting in a classroom.â Â
Isagi rolled his eyes. âYou realize this is a punishment, right?â Â
âSure, sure.â Shidou smirked. âBut that just means we get to do something interesting.â Â
---
Eventually, they reached a small clearing where several thestrals were gathered. Their skeletal bodies and bat-like wings made them look eerie, but their intelligent eyes gleamed in the darkness. Â
Hagrid handed them buckets filled with raw meat. âAlright, just approach âem slowly and offer the food. They ainât dangerous unless spooked.â Â
Isagi carefully stepped forward, holding out a chunk of meat. One of the thestrals sniffed the air before approaching, its bony snout brushing against his hand as it took the offering. Â
He exhaled in relief. Â
Shidou, meanwhile, tossed a piece of meat like he was playing fetch. âHere ya go.â Â
Hagrid sighed. âCareful with âem, Shidou.â Â
But Shidou just grinned. âThey seem fine.â Â
Isagi shook his head. âYou really donât take anything seriously, do you?â Â
Shidou smirked. âWhy should I? Lifeâs more fun that way.â Â
Isagi didnât have a response to that. Instead, he focused on finishing the task, but deep down, he couldnât help but wonderâwas there more to Shidou than just recklessâŠ

Just as they were finishing up, Fang suddenly let out a low growl. Â
Hagrid stiffened. âStay close.â Â
The forest had gone eerily silent. No rustling leaves, no distant howls. Just an unnatural stillness. Â
Then, a shadow moved. Â
A large, hulking figure stepped into view, its eyes glowing faintly. Isagiâs breath hitched. It was a giant spiderâan acromantula. Â
Shidou, rather than looking scared, grinned wildly. âOh, now this is interesting.â Â
Isagi groaned. âWhy do I feel like youâre going to make this worse?â Â
Shidou cracked his knuckles. âGuess weâll find out.â Â
