Chapter 1
It all started with Dumbledore's death at the end of sixth year. There was something slowly changing in Hermione that reminded Harry very much of his mother, Lily Evans, in the old photographs Harry had and often saw in the albums Hagrid gave him. No one commented on Hermione's changes, Harry thought because they were so subtle. So that only he, who often observed and investigated things around her, could see it.
At first, Hermione's hair turned a little darker. It slowly reached the color that Harry knew was the color of his mother's hair, Lily Evans. Then her other body features changed, some becoming similar to what Harry had. Like her nose and the shape of her eyes. Harry knew that the shape of his eyes belonged to his mother, but his nose-their nose-had belonged to his father. Sirius had often commented on that in the past.
It culminated when they were left alone by Ron. The sadness made whatever covered Hermione before completely fade away. When he first saw her after sleeping all night, Harry gasped in shock and cried at the sight of Hermione. Which made Hermione panic. Harry then grabbed the communication mirror that Sirius had given him in the past. Which functions as a normal glass when not in use. Hermione gaped in shock at her new appearance.
"I-I don't know what happened, Harry."
They both spent the whole day mapping out what was the same from their visible physical forms. Which, after going through the peramanen sheet, was pretty much everything. They then timed the distance between their births and came to a conclusion. That perhaps Hermione was Harry's sister all along and Harry was either born too soon or conceived exactly a month after Hermione's birth. Hermione and Harry preferred the first option.
The two of them then told each other about their childhood, stories filled with tears and anger here and there. More precisely, Hermione's anger. Hermione was very lucky because her foster parents loved her so much that she had a happy childhood. But Harry wasn't so lucky. Forced to be entrusted to their mother's closest relative and endured terrible things. Hermione was upset, because in her opinion, if Harry was with Hermione the ward would still exist. Unless the ward was related to the house, not the person.
Hermione spent over an hour berating Dumbledore and the Dursleys. Her diatribes were particularly scathing, especially towards Petunia. The one who was supposed to look after them and give them her love. If Dudley lost his parents and their parents were still alive, Hermione was sure their parents would give Dudley the love he deserved.
After her diatribe against the Dursleys and Dumbledore, they were preparing to move again. This time they were going to Godric's Hollow for a while to pay their respects to their parents and maybe see the house that was supposed to be their childhood home. As they reached Godric's Hollow, Harry broke down seeing their parents' graves, which made Hermione hug him and help him breathe a few times as Harry had a panic attack. Harry apologized to Hermione because he was born and got their parents killed, which made Hermione furious.
"Listen to me, Harry James Potter. I will not accept such words again. Our family is happy because of your birth, I'm sure of it. So if I hear you say that again, you will get a stranglehold from me."
They stopped by their childhood home to have a look around, to see if there were any items left behind that hadn't been taken by the people in the house. As it turned out, there was. In a static cabinet in the kitchen that apparently could only be opened with their magic signatures, there were cookies in a jar with both of their names on it. From that they learned Hermione's real name, Hyacinth. Which made Harry ask how she wanted to be called.
"You can still call me Hermione, but Hyacinth will be my official name. And I think I should get used to it.”
They searched their parents' room and found several drawers and cabinets that could only be opened with their magical signatures. Inside, there were many folders that when Harry opened, contained the amount of their family property and the buildings owned by their family. Inside the folder, there was a letter indicating that Harry was the heir to James' estate. In another cupboard, they found the same folder and letter, except that the contents stated that Hermione was the heir to Lily's property. The contents of the folders made both of them groan and sigh in resignation.
"Damn war and in the middle of it we have to find time to take care of all this damn stuff at Gringotts."
They got James' and Lily's journals, James' journal contained some of his frustrations about having to stay indoors to hide because Dumbledore took his invisibility cloak. With some of his spells here and there that the two of them couldn't wait to practice. There were also some notes about Harry and Hermione. Whereas in Lily's journal, it contained recipes for potions that she had developed while in the safe house, which Hermione was eager to practice immediately, she even went straight to the house's potions laboratory to take and check the ingredients that were still good-which turned out to be all still good because of the static spell in the room-to take.
In Lily's journal, there was also a story that mentioned dragons and that she, James, and a few other names that Harry only knew briefly from the stories Moody had told him were dragons. Their hearts skipped a beat as they read it. The fact that they were also supposed to be dragels but didn't inherit it rang a warning bell in them. In the end, they had to leave the house and take all the books and precious things from the house with them. Making Hermione grumble about how their bags might soon be full which made Harry laugh.
When they came out of the house, they were surprised by Bathilda Bagshot or the snake disguised as Bathilda. Because she suddenly melted and a snake that Harry recognized as Nagini attacked them. They fought back with all their might before finally being able to apparate and return to the Dean’s Forest to set up camp.
