The Diary
From under the mattress of his bed, Sirius pulled out an old-looking notebook. It had black leather covers, and it was obvious that it had been used. It had yellowish pages, and some small pieces of paper inside of it, that the owner of that notebook put there. The journal was completely full of handwritten words, pages and pages of ink, that even after all those years, were still legible. On the cover could be read engraved on the leather the acronym "A.B."
"What's that?" Remus asked, his eyes locked in the old journal in Sirius' hands. The black covers contrasted drastically with the pale smooth skin of his delicate hands.
"Was my uncle's. His journal from his school years."
Sirius handed the old notebook, and Remus stared at it amazed by it. He took it gently in his hands, and looked up at Sirius, silently asking permission to open it and see its contents. When Sirius nodded, he returned his gaze back to the journal and opened it carefully, not wanting to damage the pages or lose one of the small paper notes in it.
Remus started to flip over the pages. The first one was an entry dated the 18th of June, 1939. After glancing at the entry, Remus read that it was on Alphard's 10th birthday that he had been given the journal. Remus continued flipping through the first pages, when suddenly a very coherent question popped on his head, and he said it out loud.
"Why are you showing me this?"
Sirius, though he was still with a serious expression on his face, smirked a bit. "You'll see. Keep reading."
Remus was a bit annoyed at his friend's vague answer, but didn't reply. He clicked his tongue and kept flipping through the pages until he found an entry from the 2nd September, 1940. Alphard's second day at Hogwarts, Remus could tell. He ran his eyes over the multiple pages, smiling at how excited Alphard seemed to be about school, from that huge amount of pages he had written about his first and second day. Naturally, he had been sorted into Slytherin, but Remus already knew that.
Sirius watched as Remus read, smirking. He knew what he was going to find in those pages, and how he'd probably react, and couldn't help but feel amused beforehand. As Sirius had thought, Remus found what he wanted to show him, and he watched amused his friend's reaction.
Remus's eyes widened, his mouth parted in surprise and he almost dropped the notebook. Lucky him, he was sitting on the bed previously, or else he would've probably fallen. The handwriting was messy, and it was clear that Alphard had written it in a bit of a rush, because some words had ink blots where he had accidentally passed his hand over them while writing, but he could clearly read that name. He read it twice, three, four times, just to make sure he had read correctly. But it was clear whose name was written in those pages.
"Lyall Lupin."
Remus stared shocked at the pages, before looking up at Sirius, and was met with him trying to hold back his laughter, clearly amused by Remus's reaction.
"You already knew this, didn't you?" He asked, annoyed.
"Of course I did, that's why I wanted to show you."
"But why now? You've had this for 7 years and you decide to tell me now that your uncle knew my father??"
Sirius smirk. "Yeah, well. We didn't have a too close friendship before, did we? But hey, at least I've told you. I could just haven't."
Remus snorted at Sirius's answer, though he was not wrong. He sometimes hated him, but he still loved him, a bit too deeply, actually. He clicked his tongue again, his eyes going back to the journal.
"Read it out loud." Sirius asked suddenly.
"What?"
"Read it out loud."
"Why? Haven't you read it?"
"Oh, yeah, several times. But there are more surprises. Let's just find them together, yeah?"
Remus raised an eyebrow, but sighed defeatedly.
"Fine..."
