skipping class
Harry tried his best to refocus on the lesson but it seemed no matter what he tried it wasn’t enough to avoid being reprimanded by Professor Snape. It seemed like every few seconds he was being yelled at by Professor Snape for making a mistake in the potion they were making. “Sorry I keep messing up our potion.” Harry said softly to Luna, whom he was working with. “You’re really not messing up as much as Professor Snape is making it seem like you are, I mean you’ve only been making small errors here and there, he just seems to have it out for you today.” Luna whispered back to Harry in response. “Mr. Potter. If you continue to disrupt my class I will throw you out and give you detention for the rest of the week.” Snape shot across the room, giving Harry a death glare.
Suddenly Luna stood up in a huff of rage. “Professor Snape, if you throw Harry out of this class for no good reason then you’ll have to throw me out too!” Luna shouted heroically. “Miss Lovegood, this does not concern you.” Snape said simply, trying to carry on with the lesson. “Yes it does! Harry is my best friend and the only reason he was talking was because I talked to him first. So you can either leave him alone or kick us both out.” Luna fired back. Though Harry saw that Luna was only trying to help the irony wasn’t lost on him that she was likely only hurting the situation by agravateing the professor. “Very well then, Mr. Potter, Miss Lovegood, you both have detention for the rest of the week, now get out of my classroom.” Snape said calmly.
Luna and Harry gathered their stuff and walked out of the classroom. On the way out Harry couldn’t help himself, he had to aggravate the professor just a bit more. “Oh, and for your information, my last name is Potter-Black, and my father will not be happy to know that you’re bullying your students.” Harry said before closing the door behind him.
Once the door closed behind Harry and Luna, Snape turned back to the rest of the class, “Would anyone else like to join Mr. Potter and Miss Lovegood in detention, or shall get back to the lesson?” Snape asked sarcastically. Before Draco could stop himself he was standing up from his seat. “Yes Mr. Malfoy.” Snape said, rolling his eyes. Draco crossed his arms trying to hide his shaky hands. “His name is Mr. Potter-Black, you can’t just go around bullying kids because you didn’t like their parents when you were in school.” Draco said abruptly. Though Harry hadn’t heard about his Dad and Snape’s feud in their early years at Hogwarts Draco certainly had, his mother told him that Sirius and James used to pull all kinds of pranks on the Slytherins all because of a feud thy had with Snape.
“Out.” Snape said simply, pointing to the door. Draco slung his bag over his shoulder and started towards the door. “Gladly.” Draco said smugly as he left the classroom. When the door shut behind him Draco saw Harry and Luna sitting against the wall trying to think of something to fill their time. “Well, there was this passage on the map I saw that looked interesting, it’s sort of vague on the map so maybe we could check it out.” Harry suggested holding the map up to Luna. “What’s that?” Draco asked, intrigued. Harry turned to see who was next to him and his face dropped when he saw Draco’s face. “What are you doing out here?” Luna asked, hostally. “I got kick out by Snape too.” Draco said spitefully. “Look just cause… Just cause I was a dick before doesn’t mean we can’t be friends, besides we all have to spend the next week in detention together anyways.” Draco said optimistically. “Fine, I guess you can tag along.” Harry said with a bit of venom behind his words.
The three of them walked quietly for a bit until they made it to the door Harry was talking about. “They went into almost every door in the castle and labeled them but for some reason this one isn’t on it.” Harry explained when they reached the door. Harry reached for the door knob and tried to open the door but it was locked. “Crap.” Harry said angrily. “Well, that was uneventful.” Draco said smugly. “Oh, that’s an easy fix, Alohomora.” Luna said, pointing her wand at the lock on the door. “There” Luna said proudly.
Harry pushed the door open gently and couldn’t see anything in the dark room behind the door. The trio walked into the room wearily unsure of what could be hiding in the mysterious room. “Lumos” Draco said, his wand casting a light. A few inches from Harry’s foot lay a giant three headed dog asleep atop a small wooden door. Draco gasped in shock and Luna flung her hand to cover his mouth so that he wouldn’t wake the sleeping beast. “Look,” Harry said, pointing to the small wooden door beneath the dog, “He’s guarding something.” “Who gives a shit, it’s a giant three headed dog, let’s just run.” Draco whispered, grabbing Harry by the arm and beginning to walk out of the room.
The sudden jolt awoke the dog and its eyes opened, glaring at Harry. “Run!” Harry shouted. The three young students rushed out of the room and held the door shut as tightly as they could, locking it behind them. “I think I know why that was locked now.” Harry said, panting.
-later that day, in the library-
“It just doesn’t make any sense why they would keep something so dangerous inside the castle,” Luna said, closing the book she had in her hands. “It looked like it was guarding something, did you see that little door underneath it?” Harry replied. “Why are we even still talking about this? Can’t we just let it be and agree never to go in there again?” Draco asked. “No! We need to figure out why it’s there.” Luna exclaimed. “Why?! What good is sitting here wondering why it’s here? If we asked questions every time something insane happened at this school we’d never have time for anything else!” Draco exclaimed, though it seemed that Luna and Harry were refusing to hear him. “Maybe it’s something valuable to the school, and they don’t want anyone to steal it.” Luna suggested. “Why am I even here?” Draco asked himself after being ignored. “Ya, why are you even here? If you’re not going to help, you should just leave.” Harry suggested, giving Draco a nasty look. “Fine.” Draco said, getting up and leaving in a huff.
Harry turned his attention back to Luna. “Maybe it’s guarding something more dangerous, so that no one gets hurt.” Harry suggested. “What good would that be?” Luna asked. “Well, maybe the dog isn’t actually dangerous but just looks mean and scary so that no one wants to mess with it and it’s actually stopping us from seeing the much more dangerous monster.” Harry suggested. “But then why would they have that monster?” Luna asked. Harry shrugged his shoulders.
After a few moments of silence an idea came to Harry. “We should ask the grounds keeper, I hear he has all sorts of fantastical creatures, maybe he knows.” Harry suggested. “And what makes you think he’ll tell us anything?” Luna asked. “Hey, it’s worth a try isn’t it.” Harry said. “Ya, I guess” Luna conceded. Harry looked at the watch on his wrist. “Oh, we’d better head to detention with Snape before we’re late.” Harry said as he hurriedly gathered his things and left the library with Luna beside him.
