Detention

Luna, Harry and Draco took their seats in the empty potions classroom. Draco sat closest to the door in the front row, Harry sat three seats over in the center of the front row, and Luna sat closest to Snape’s desk three seats over from Harry. Snape sat silently at his desk, marking papers and left the three of them to their own devices for the most part.

After only a few moments Harry was already bored out of his mind. Harry turned his head to look at Luna, but she was immersed in the book he had given her. It had only been a few days since he’d given her the second book in the Percy Jackson series and already she was almost done with it. Then Harry turned his head to look at Draco who was looming over his transfiguration homework. Even though Harry was determined to get over his crush on Draco he couldn’t help but stare at him when he wasn’t looking. There was something about the fact that Draco didn’t want to be with Harry that made him that much more into him.

Suddenly, Snape stood up from his desk and walked to the door. “I’ll be back shortly. Don’t light anything on fire.” Snape said, looking directly at Harry as he walked out of the room. Draco looked up from his homework for a moment before returning to his work. “So… We’ve already decided to ask the groundskeeper for help… maybe we should see if Hermione has any ideas. She’s really smart and into reading wizard books so maybe she’s read about something valuable that might be hidden in the castle.” Harry suggested. “Look it’s bad enough that you two are making this more of a problem than it is. We don’t need you involving other people, especially Gryffindors.” Draco said smugly. “Funny, I don’t remember asking for your opinion.” Harry shot back. “Why are you being such a prick all of a sudden?” Draco asked, accusatorally. “Why am I being a prick?” Harry repeated, “The only one being a prick here is you.” “I’ve done nothing but be nice to you all day!” Draco exclaimed standing up from her seat. Luna, who was still sitting in the corner watching the tension rise, picked her book back up and started reading again.

“Oh, so kissing me and then running away like a dog with its tail between its legs, is what you call ‘being nice’” Harry said angrily. “Oh, so that’s what this is about.” Draco said, rolling his eyes. “You can’t just force down your queerness forever, one way or another you’re going to have to come to terms with the fact that you’re into me.” Harry said aggressively, standing up from his desk and stepping closer to Draco. Draco was somewhat stunted by how blunt Harry was being. “I’m not a puff like you ok, I don’t like you like that!” Draco said not so convincingly. It sounded more like he was trying to convince himself than Harry. “Then why did you kiss me! That’s not exactly ‘straight’ behaviour” Harry yelled back. “I don’t know… I just… I mean… you pulled me towards you first so.” Draco said. “And you kissed me first!” Harry yelled.

Suddenly the door flung open and Snape walked back into the room. “Boys sit back down before I give you another week of detention.” Snape commanded and the boys complied. After about an hour of what Harry saw as mind numbing boredom Snape finally let them all leave. Their detention was placed conveniently after supper so afterwards they were to go right to their dorms and go to bed as lights out was only ten to twenty minutes after they were released.

Harry waved bye to Luna as he and Draco headed off to their shared dorm room in an awkward silence. Once back at their dorm, Draco and Harry go ready for bed without speaking a word to each other. Before bed Harry made sure to draft a letter to his Papa about what Snape did in class that day. It was just so curious to him why Snape would almost purposefully target him and repeatedly call him by only half of his last name.

Papa,

The most curious thing happened in potions today. I was simply trying to focus on the lesson Professor Snape was teaching but it seemed every time I made even the smallest of errors the Professor would snap at me and yell at me in front of the whole class, and I’m sorry to say that at a certain point I couldn’t hold back anymore. Luna snapped at him and he kicked us out of class and I made a bit of a nasty comment to him on my way out the door, so now we’ve all landed ourselves a week of detention. Though, there was something I found even more odd about the situation, Professor Snape refused to call me Mr. Potter-Black but instead called me just Mr. Potter over and over again and I was wondering if it had to do with the fact that he must’ve gone to school at the same time as you and dad.

Anyways, with love,

Harry

Harry signed the letter and sent Hedwigg off with it before finally turning in for the night.
