You Deserve Better Than Me

Hermione’s heart lodged in her throat, each breath more difficult than the last.
“But why?” She asked, her vision blurring with unshed tears. “Why are you trying to push me away?”
Theo looked up at her with tired, war-worn eyes. His own pain evident in his gaze.
How could he even begin to explain his crimes to her? The horrors he experienced and committed. How could he allow someone so pure and golden to entangle themselves with the monster he had become?
He finally broke the silence between them as he turned to leave.
“You deserve better than me.”
He left without another word, his tear-stained shirt still hanging from her sobbing frame.
