Letters, 1991
18th of July, 1991
It was a lovely Thursday morning. Charles knew why his twin sister, Ella, was already off bed. It was their 11th birthday. Today was their big day. They would be receiving their letter for Hogwarts. The boy went quickly downstairs only to find his sister having breakfast with their mom, Soraya.
“Dad's off to work already?” His mom nodded.
But Charles knew, and so did Ella. His dad was actually at the graveyard. He went there three times a week, at least. But he said that this year was important since “it's been a whole decade”. When he, or his sister, tried asking about it he would answer with: “you are too young”, “I'll tell you when you're old enough” or just avoided the question. Charles didn’t care, the people he always went visiting were his school friends, so it must be really important for him. They both knew.
“Yeah, he is. Come’re Charles! Mom made pancakes and toast!”
“On it. Oh, happy birthday Ella.”
“Cheers, happy birthday to you too.”
“Excited for today, children?” Soraya finally talked.
“Yeah!” He said, and suddenly he remembered his redhaired friend, “Will Ron and the Weasleys come for dinner?”
“They'll be here by lunchtime”
Ella unexpectedly gasped with joy on her face while pointing at the window behind her. A big brown (a bit fat for Charles opinion) owl had arrived at the Miller's house. It came with two letters. Not just any letters.
“ Hogwarts ! We're goin' to Hogwarts, Charles!”
“For Merlin’s beard.. YES ! We're both going! The Miller twins at Hogwarts!”
“Of course you're both going, you're my children,” There was an awkward silence, “But congrats, I s'pose.” oh how I hate that tone on her voice. He thought
“Cheers.” They both said, but Charles slightly rolled his eyes.
It was normal for them to say the same thing at the same time. Or to complete the other’s sentence. The twins didn’t look alike that much, Charles was tanned, curly brown hair, and dark brown eyes. Ella, on the other hand, had straight, dark blonde hair. She had bright hazel eyes, pale skin. The only thing they had in common was their freckles and that they were quite tall for their age. However, they were pretty close despite all their differences.
Their mother was not very talkative so it was a surprise every time she talked. They knew she came from a powerful family, full of wizards and witches. Her family didn’t like her marriage much, John, their dad, was a half-blood, His father was muggleborn. But she “convinced” her family about it. The twins were never told much more about it. They didn't even knew her last name before marriage.
“I'm off to work,” his mom announced, “finish your breakfast and clean your room. Be ready to recieve our guests.”
She stood up and suddenly CRACK. Charles and Ella were left alone in the kitchen.
