Summary
About three years ago, I had anabsolutely batshit crazy idea for a Harry Potter fanfiction. It started with a text to my friend where I asked “What if Severus Snape, Lily Evans, and James Potter were in a throuple?” I ended up plotting the whole thing out, creating playlists, and even drawing some art for the fic. This is a collection of all those things. I may or may not ever get around to writing it, but I thought people would appreciate it. Feel free to write from my outline and world building, but please list this as inspiration or send it to me if you do! I would love to see it!(Note: This is as gay as humanly possible for the sole purpose of pissing off TERF. K. Rowling.)
World Building
April 20, 2025 at 08:13 AM
World Building:
- Though Wizarding Britain still used the Binary of Witch and Wizard, more liberal magical communities will use the term “Magician”. In this context, it will refer to any and every sentient being that comes from a magical familial background, even creatures. “Witch/Wizard” in Magical Britain will be “Human Magician/Magician/Mage” in these more liberal communities.
- Family Magic/Bloodline Magic will be a thing. It will have variations in how it’s passed down. Some will be passed down Matrilineally, some Patrilineally, while others will be passed down randomly but to specific members of the family. (ex: Black family magic is passed down to various women in the line. The woman who inherits the family magic traditionally becomes the family head, though this practice falls out of fashion after a few centuries living in magical Britain.)
- The Sacred 28, according to the Harry Potter Wiki, is as follows: Abbott, Avery, Black, Bulstrode, Burke, Carrow, Crouch, Fawley, Flint, Gaunt, Greengrass, Lestrange, Longbottom, Macmillain, Malfoy, Nott, Ollivander, Parkinson, Prewett, Rosier, Rowle, Selwyn, Shacklebolt, Shafiq, Slughorn, Travers, Weasley, Yaxely. Some names shall be excluded from the Sacred 28 for plot purposes, namely the Parkinsons, removed because of Pany Parkinson’s parent’s marriage. The sacred 28 are not the only purebloods, but they’re given “Status' ' amongst blood-purists.
MAGUSA
- MAGUSA is very culturally different to the Wizarding Britain of the books, as well as different from MAGUSA from the FB movies. (I am ignoring them, whoops.) For reference, see Faint Indirections by ignatiustrout for MAGUSA world building ideas.
- MAGUSA is culturally diverse and liberal, especially when compared to Wizarding Britain. Much of MAGUSA is integrated with the USA, especially as the latter half of the century approaches. There are many boarding schools throughout North America for young magical users, as well as schools that differ based on their practice of magic. There are also about 20 Magical Universities that exist in multiple regions of North America.
- The most prolific and exclusive Magical Community is New Salem, located in Upstate New York. It is one of the only completely unintegrated Magical communities, though it does have a university that shares a building with Cornell University(?).
- In the early 1900s, around the same time as women’s voting marches, Magical Creatures in MAGUSA started protesting for equal citizenship. Prior to this, there were several conflicts around the topic. Several Human Adjacent Magical creatures received these rights shortly after. Throughout the rest of the century, other groups continued to protest and fight for these rights.
Family Magic
The Most Ancient and Noble House of Black
- Passed down to the Woman most suited to receiving the magic (IE, the best temperament, or the greatest need for the gift). The woman does not have to be Cisgendered, but she must be a woman. Any Magician that is a Man or Nonbinary cannot inherit the magic.
- The Black Family Gift allows the women with it to be true Seers. The family Myth claims they are direct descendants from the Seer Cassandra. The women of the family are given the Gift of True Sight, but the family also has a curse laid upon them. Unlike Cassandra, however, the Black family is cursed to have similar fortunes to the sources of their True names. Allegedly, this curse comes from the Family’s arrogance, cursed in a similar manner to Cassandra by Hera. To counteract the curse, many in the family go by Nicknames/alternative names in an attempt to counteract the effects/strength of the curse. To outsiders, this curse is seen as Black Family Madness.
- The True Seers can read the path someone is most likely to go down through their emotions/specific visions of potential paths taken seen through blood. They use multiple tools such as tarot, astrology, and the occasional vision. They are not Prophets or Oracles, so they do not make prophecies.
- Through the time-frame of this rewrite, the Magicians that have the Black family Gift are Theia Phoebe Black (Aunt Fee),
Atalanta ReaganRhea Atalanta Black (Aunt Lana, aka Daedalus) (Regulus Arcturus Black), and Diana Iphigenia Black Malfoy (Dinah, Nana). - Draco Lucius Black Malfoy does not possess true sight, but he is skilled in Mind Magics, particularly Memory magic. The strength in mind-magics comes from Narcissa’s skill in occlumency, as well as the Malfoy Family magic that results in a natural talent.
- He also has another Black family gift, being morphmagus, but his ability is less complete than Nymphadora Tonks’, resulting in him only really being able to change his hair color, and hide blemishes on his skin. Like his mother, Narcissa, and older sister, Diana, he has a mallen streak. Narcissa dyes the rest of her hair to be blonde, while Diana leaves her birthmark alone. Draco, due to the insistence of his father, uses his gift to keep the rest of his hair blond. The Birthmark cannot be dyed over, and is unaffected by the morphmagus ability.
- The Mallen streak marks the Blacks who have it as “cursed”. In the black family, it’s believed to be a sign of bad luck and a short, tragic life. Outside the family, many believe it to mean that the magicians that have it are particularly cursed/prone to madness.
The Brahmin Potdar (The Noble Potters)
- Originally from India, Specifically Pakistan prior to the countries’ split in 1947, The Noble Potters fell within the Brahmin class of Indian Feudalism, as scholars and Mages.
- Their family Magic is Parseltongue. It is a less rare gift to have in India than in WB, but still rare enough to give them the status as Brahmin, especially among the non magical community. “Blood Purity” is not a concept in Magical India, so much as Magical Power and Affinity giving the Status.
- Potdar was Anglicized to Potter upon the family’s immigration to WB. Purebloods don’t really know how to treat the Potters bc they’re not really purebloods, (by their standards), but they have strong family magic and fuck you money, similarly to the Blacks.
Notes about Muggle Borns and Family Magic
- Contrary to traditional belief, Muggle Born Magicians do have a place in Family Magic. Several magical scholars in MAGUSA conduct studies on family magic and the affinities surrounding it. Muggle Born Magicians are considered “First of Their Name”, i.e. the start of a new magical line.
- Usually, the first of their name will determine their line’s favored magic. The magic will grow stronger and stronger as generations pass, eventually resulting in specific abilities manifesting. Magical power of the individual magician can result in the ability manifesting sooner— this results in both of the Evans children, Dudley (Lee) and Harry, having abilities from their mothers, Harry having the ability to see into the past, and Lee being particularly skilled in Defensive magic. (Long range apparition?)
