In the Dark
Hearing the sound of a branch snap behind her, she quickly whirled around, ready to confront the person following her from the dinner party. But even in the darkness, she recognized the pair of piercing blue eyes staring back at her… Theo.
“You left without saying goodbye,” Theo said, his voice breaking the silence of the garden.
Genevieve ran a hand through her long brown hair. “I’m not leaving. I - I just needed some air,” she said, pulling the edges of her cardigan closer to her chest.
Theo approached her, standing so close that Genevieve felt her breath hitch. Her eyes tried to adjust in the dark, but she didn’t need to see. The darkness only sharpened her senses, noting the soft timbre of his voice… his scent; warm and clean.
She shuddered.
“Are you scared?” he asked, voice low, his breath brushing lightly against her cheeks.
Her brows furrowed in confusion. “Of the dark?”
“No,” he said, stepping even closer. His eyes roaming over her lips before looking back up to meet hers. “Of me.”
A rush of heat bloomed through her chest as she met his intense gaze. “Not yet.”
His chuckle was low, dangerous even. “Good.”
