Preface
After all was said and done, wizarding scholars would ponder which member was truly the last of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black. Was it newborn Teddy Lupin, grandson of Andromeda, or Draco Malfoy, who disappeared with his family shortly after the Battle of Hogwarts? The great Harry Potter had been named the beneficiary of Sirius Black, inheriting the Black family wealth. Or was it Draco's mother, Narcissa, for neither Draco nor Harry had ever held the Black name? Perhaps it was none of the Black sisters, as they all had forfeit their names in their marriage. What of Sirius? He died long after his brother, but lost the Black name in his disinheritance. The last obvious answer, Regulus, was found dead at the age of 17, but was outlived by his mother. Yes, the scholars largely agreed that the name died with Walburga Black, early in 1985. Few would care enough to look into her personality profile, but those who did would find that Walburga was fiercely devoted to her family’s prosperity and reputation. The Black matriarch had worked tirelessly for a lifetime to uphold the Black family expectations, to pass them along to the next generation, sacrificing opportunities, and retaining the family’s purity no matter the cost. The irony of the name dying with Walburga Black would be lost on the majority of the wizarding world. The family would remain an obscured mystery, with many details missing from record. No one would ever know the true, full, story of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black.
