September 1st, 1971

There was a certain buzz throughout the halls. Every first year student was looking excitedly around at Hogwarts. The room they all sat in had high ceilings and was lit brightly by candles. In the front of the room lay a frumpy brown hat, which the first year students would later learn to be the sorting hat. The role of the sorting hat was to sort the students into the dormitory they would be staying in based upon the qualities they possessed. Remus lupin waited patiently before it was his turn. His nerves were buzzing with anticipation. He finally walked up to the front as the hat was placed upon his head. "Hmmm..." The hat grumbled.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

After the sorting ceremony, the students had branched off into their houses. Remus had been sorted into Gryffindor, quite unsurprisingly. While he was intelligent, He also possessed many other qualities which led him to be sorted into that house.

He glanced over to the group of three boys who had been sorted into the same house as him. These boys he had first seen on the train, however he had not expected to be spending this much time with them already. The taller of the bunch, Sirius Black, was gorgeous to say the least. He had thick dark curls that fell to his shoulders and eyes that seemed to see your thoughts. The boy standing close to Sirius, flat tiring him while they walked to the common room, Had brown hair and tan skin. This of course was James Potter. It seemed like him and Sirius had known each other for ages, but Remus highly doubted this. The last boy walking beside Remus was Peter Pettigrew. Peter was a bit chubby and had light tan hair and a light completion. He shot Remus a nervous glance after James fell into him tripping. James had tripped over his shoe laces. Sirius burst out laughing. However, some of the paintings must have not thought of this to not be very funny because they glared at him hatefully.

When they had finally made it up all the stairs, moving stairs, they approached a painting of a fat lady holding a glass. The prefect shoved through and made his way to the front.

"Opus societati"

"Op, op, I will sing for you first!"

The prefect gave her a glare before the lady reluctantly let them inside. The students crawled through the entrance filling into the main area. The group of boys made their way up to the tower and James threw himself onto the nearest bed shoving his face into the pillow.

"You realize how many people have slept in these beds, right?" Said Sirius

James rolled over giving him a disgusted look. "Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed!" He said laughing wildly at his own joke.

How am I going to survive the school year with this bunch... Thought Remus as he unpacked his own belongings. His bed was right beside the window and he could see the land stretching far out before being erased by the horizon line. He missed his mother a great deal, but knew it was best that he was sent away here. She had tried her best to manage his condition. Remus had been taken to many healers, but none of them could undo a disease as terrible as the one he had.

The next morning he awoke to sunlight beaming into his eyes, maybe this wasn't the best bed. He threw on his uniform and made his way down to the dining hall with James and Peter. They had tried to wake up Sirius but he had threatened them murmuring about some curse so they decided to go down without him.

"So what are you two excited for the most?" Asked Peter

"Probably quidditch, it seems pretty cool. What about you Remus?"

Remus looked at him in surprise. "Oh, probably Astronomy or something. Seems kinda interesting." The real reason he was glad to have this class is that it would make knowing when he was going to change very easy.

About half way through breakfast Sirius came bursting in giving a sigh of relief that he hadn't missed breakfast. He sat down next to Remus glancing at his plate.

"Hungry this morning huh."

The first class that they had was flying class. James was obviously excited for this. The moment he got on the broom he was going full speed. Remus however was not as keen to risk falling to his death. He kicked off going a steady pace but apparently not very fast because James had lapped him twice. Sirius and Peter remained a little bit in front of him

Not show offs like James he thought bitterly. The next class they had was according to Sirius, the most boring class. History of Magic.

"It can't possibly be that bad" said Peter.

"It mostly definitely is. I've heard all about it." He replied

"From who"

"My older brother" he said with a disgusted tone in his voice. Remus guessed they had a rough relationship so he didn't question it. Remus didn't think the class was as dreadful as he had described it, but James and Sirius most definitely did. James leaned back in his seat to look back at him but caught himself before he fell backward.

After the class a skinny dark haired boy had passed the group of Gryffindor's in the hall. Someone who he would later learn was Severus Snape, or who Sirius like to call, Snivilus. Walking beside his was a red haired girl, Lily evens. James glared at Snape and from that moment the group could tell there was going to be issues between the two of them.

September 5th, 1971

Remus and James were up on the Sunday morning since Sirius and Peter were still asleep. Remus should have been enjoying the weekend, but he was dreading his transformation. He couldn't deal with the thought of the students at Hogwarts finding out about his "little secret" as his mom would call it. His stomach growled loudly. A few moments later Lily walked down the bell jar tucked under her arm. She sat on the couch and started reading it.

"You like muggle books?" Said Remus

"Not just any muggle, Sylvia Plath!"

Sirius entered the room groaning.

"What's all the racket. Muggle authors? Why would anyone read such a thing..."

Lily looked at him in disbelief before shaking her head and going back to reading. Sirius sat beside Remus and whispered to him.

"I heard she's muggle born, didn't know that sort of thing was possible."

The day progressed slowly. Although he had been expecting it, it still came as a shock when Professor McGonagall came to get him during a game of chess.

"Lupin, in trouble your first week of school?" He mocked. However, Sirius definitely was not expecting him to be led away. Remus was to a large angry tree. Upon entry, cramped house was dusty. She told him that during his transformations this is where he would go, and in the morning the healer would come to treat his wounds. As if his condition wasn't bad enough on its own, because he had nothing to attack, he ended up attacking himself. He thought this was terribly twisted, as if he were the one being punished for not hurting other people.
