Chapter 6
Christmas was spend with both families they wanted to spend an equal amount of time with each others families. They didn’t mind being with each other family since they were accepted unlike like how they thought it would happen. Their families wanted to make it easy for the girls since it was the first major holiday they would be spending together they all decided to rent out cabins in California,
Since they where on off season they deiced to spend Christmas and New Years with the Press and Johnston family and both families were more than happy with that.
Packing was a struggle between Julie and Christen. Julie’s was more relaxed and didn’t matter what was packed or not as long has she had the basics and her blanket and pillow she was good. Unlike Christen she liked to have a list with the quantity that she was taking she wouldn’t just pack and cross the items off her list but triple check the list to make sure they had everything.
They had all decided that in this trip their would be no gifts taken so they wouldn’t have to worry about forgetting someone gift so JJ and Chris had the gifts they bought their families shipped to their homes by the time they got back from the trip. But Julie had a surprise for Christen something that she would of never thought that Julie noticed.
“Babe are you sure you have everything you need we leave in an hour can you please double check?” Julie didn’t want to get into a small argument later on because she forgot something so she gets up and double checked her bags and lets her girlfriend know she has everything and is ready to go to the airport. One of Christen friends volunteers to drive them to the airport and pick them up when they come back.
At the airport Julie looked like a child carrying around her pillow and blanket meanwhile Christen was freaking out on who was going to pick them up for the airport. They boarded the plane and settled into their usual spots. JJ just wanted to sleep but Chris just could find her spot which made it impossible of JJ to sleep. Half way though the flight Chris finally was asleep along with JJ.
Once they arrived to California things went a lot more smoother for the couple. They got their suitcases and bags quickly and where the first from their flight to be out in the airport lobby waiting for their ride. JJ phone kept going off every few seconds at first Christen was like whatever most likely emails or mentions in tweets and tagged on Instagram but it got to the point that Christen takes her girlfriend phone to check why it kept going off and off. To Christen surprise it was nothing she had thought about instead it was some girl blowing up Julie’s phones say “Cant wait to see you !, text me when your here, so much planned for the weekend , I love you ”. But little did she know the girl texting Julie’s was one of her best friends from her childhood it wasn’t a friend it was more like a sister but Christen didn’t give Julie a chance to explain. She instantly goes off on her girlfriend demanding an explanation but not allowing Julie to give it to her since she just went on and on talking.
They had never got into an argument over something like this they usually had each others phones. Before the argument escalated into something major the Press and Johnston siblings where waving to the couple to go there way and leave before they got ambushed with fans. Asking them why they were spending the holidays with each other and their families. Each side of the siblings where pretty excited to meet the 2 players they had meet them before after games or during the world cup but they had never actually had a whole conversation that didn’t involve soccer.
The ride to the cabins was very long for the fact that Christen was upset with Julie. Although she was upset with her girlfriend she fell asleep on her chest taking the blanket all for herself. Julie didn’t mind at all because that meant Christen must not be that mad if she fell asleep on her. They arrive to the two families patently waiting for them. The girls stayed in the car for a little longer since Julie didn’t want to wake up her girlfriend and have her more grumpy/upset than she was before they got on the car. Their siblings moving their bags to their room after all Julie didn’t wake up Christen instead she carried her motioning to their families to stay quiet since she was sleeping. Julie is guided to their room set Christen carefully on to the bed trying not to wake her Christen mom “Take all the time you guys need to sleep just try to come in down for Christmas dinner later tonight please” Julie nods and cuddles back with Christen wrapping her arms around her girlfriends body.
~ 4 hours later ~
Christen wakes up to her girlfriend all over her hugging her tight but she was still upset with her. Her slight movement had woken up Julie since she was a light sleeper Julie quickly beings to talk explaining who was the girl who had texted her when they had arrived. Chris still wasn’t okay after the explanation she realized she might have over reacted but still blamed Julie and Julie didn’t want to say or do anything else since she wanted a peaceful vacation with her girlfriend. Before going to for dinner they changed out of what they wee wearing into something much warmer since it was practically freezing. Before leaving the room Julie pulls Christen in close and looks in to her girlfriends greenish grayish eyes and says “Babe I love you so much hate when we argue even if we make up a few hours later” then places a kiss on her cheek before walking out of the room.
The table was one long table filled of different types of food Press and Johnston family recipes. The girls didn’t know where to start but what they did know was that they were going have to train hard to lose everything they were about to eat. Once they had their plates full they sat at the table and began with how was their flight and if Christen had convinced Julie to get a puppy yet? The conversation were mutual nothing too personal or nothing to vague to make them feel uncomfortable. Dinner was over all good the families felt Christen and Julie a little tense the girls had minimal conversations among themselves since Chris was still upset. They volunteered to help clean up but instead they were denied and were convinced by their mothers to go on a walk outside since it was beautiful.
Momma Press hands them a hot chocolate so they don’t freeze out there on their walk. “Babe lets go before it gets really dark “ Christen then “ I’m coming just grabbing a scarf”. Julie holds both of the hot chocolates while Christen arranges her scarf and began to walk. They walk for about 20 minutes without saying a word they come to a stop once they are far enough away from the cabins were no one can see or hear them. Julie breaks the silences “How long are you going to stay mad with me and be distant from me its killing me. I understand it was my fault for no telling you I would be having out with my friend more like a sister Just to let you know i canceled with her I told her i had plans with my girlfriend for the entire time we are here in California” “Babe you didn’t have to tell her you had a girlfriend I guess i over reacted I not the jealous type but that made me feel jealous” Christen again “Jules I’m sorry for over reacting… “ before she said anything else JJ was already kissing her girlfriend snow began to fall but that didn’t stop the couple. JJ pulls back “Babe your adorable when your all jealous and all i just don’t like that you get distant with me” JJ begins to walk away from cabin and move up the trail to a hidden spot Christen follows and turns JJ to face her when JJ is holding a small little black box with a perfect red ribbon tied to it and tells hers “Merry Christmas Babe”.
In Christen’s mind she’s thinking its way to soon go be getting married what can it be other than a ring. JJ hands her the box and with shaky hands Christen manages to open the box. To her surprise its not a ring like she was thinking instead it was a necklace with a small soccer ball she wasn’t quiet sure what it meant. Julie’s tells her the soccer ball is a lock it when she opens it she sees the #19 and her initials JJ. “Its so you always have me with you and also because i noticed you had a necklace with a soccer ball charm and you lost it during the World Cup and you seemed pretty upset about it so I got you this one. Look at the front of it theirs a #23 in made up of small diamonds as well”
“ I can’t believe you still gave me this even after this morning argument” “well like i said earlier I love you and your not getting rid of me that easy” They walked back into the cabin holding hands and all smiles joining the families conversations.
