Note
Look, I have no idea really where this story is going. It's gone be pieced together via snippets of conversation. So if the story seems to bounce around or not put together well, that's kinda how I want it. Anyways, enjoy and comment. Each chapter may be a snippet or two. Also, though the story explains it, there's two main families: The Quartz (Rose, Jasper and Ame) and the Pearls (self explanatory). Some characters are also cousins and for the most part each relation is via one commonly shared parent (via mom or via dad).

Chapter 20

Alexandrite sighs as she plops down in one of the auditorium seats. Alexandrite frowns as she watches Sardonyx and Rainbow laugh and hug on the stage.

"You know she's playing y'all," Malachite's deep and low voice sounded next to her.

She promised Sardonyx that she would watch one of her theater practices. Did she know that Malachite and Rainbow were going to be there too? No, but she should've, after all, it's Sardonyx.

"I know. I knew from the beginning," Alexandrite says, not taking her eyes off of Sardonyx and Rainbow.

"Yet you still flirt?"

Alexandrite turns to face Malachite with an eyebrow raised. "What about you? I know you're not over her."

Malachite laughs but her eyes stay glued to Sardonyx now gracefully crossing the stage. "Please. I'm through with her."

Alexandrite hums. "Sure?"

Malachite growls and snaps her eyes towards Alexandrite. "What's your problem, Alex?"

Alexandrite shrugs her shoulders. "Nothing. You're just trying to tell me about Sar when you're in the same boat."

Malachite growls again. "Sar is a chronic flirt. No sense in anyone else getting unnecessarily hurt."

Alex hums but can't help the smirk that crosses her lips. "Here I thought you were just a giant, mean monster, Mal. But you're actually capable of feeling."

Mal scowls. "Don't get used to it. I still hate you."

Alex's smirk grew into a full blown smile. "Wouldn't have it any other way." Alex turns to look at Sar. "Though, I might take your advice about Sar."

"Good for you."

Alex frowns and turns back to Malachite. "You should do the same Mal. I don't know what happened between y'all, but you deserve better. You deserve to be happy."

Before Malachite could respond, Sardonyx's voice calls them. "Mal! Alex! Come, I need your help."

Alex sighs but stands none the less. "Think about it." She turns from Mal and walks toward Sardonyx.

"Hey love," Sar calls as she wraps Alex in a hug.

"Sar." Alex pulls back to place a kiss on Sar's cheek.

Sar blushes and laughs. "You treat me too good."

Malachite rolls her eyes but joins the three on the stage. "What?"

Sar raises an eyebrow but beckons Mal toward. "Don't be that way Mally. You used to love being on the stage with me."

Mal scowls. "That was a long time ago."

Sar tilts her head back and laughs. "Anyways, I need you two girls to play these parts for me." She hands them both a script.

Alex furrows her brows as she flips through the script. "Sar, I'm not an actress." Alex hands the script back to Sar who frowns at it.

"Please Alex?" Rainbow asks.

"The rest of the members are in class or at lunch. The show has to be perfect." Sar begs.

"The show isn't for three weeks, you have time."

"I agree with Alex," Malachite's voice sounds and all three girls snap their heads towards her. "Mostly because of the scene at the end."

Rainbow widens her eyes and Sar simply laughs. "What's a little kiss between enemies?"

Alex and Mal lock eyes with each other and frown. Gross.

"Don," Alex growls lowly. She only uses 'Don' when Sardonyx is overstepping her boundaries.

Sar raises her hands as she lets out a nervous laugh. She looks between the two and frowns. "So, neither of you are going to help me?"

Both girls stay silent and Sar frowns briefly before a smirk crosses her lips. She takes a step towards the two. "What's it going to take to get y'all to help?"

Alex frowns. "Don, can I have a word with you?"

Sar smiles brightly and nods her head. "Think about it Mal." She turns and follows Alex towards a corner on the stage.

"What are you planning?" Alex questions.

"What are you talking about Alex?" Sar asks with faux innocence. "You and Mal were just talking."

Alex hums and crosses her arms. "I can't do this anymore with you Sar."

Sar frowns and takes Alex's hands in her own. "What are you saying Alex? I thought we were having fun?"

"What fun?" Alex locks eyes with Sar. "This isn't fun for me anymore Sar. I knew what I was walking into when we first started, but I don't want to keep playing for you."

Sar stares at Alex. She should've known that Alex wouldn't stay too long. Sar glances over her shoulder at Mal and Rainbow before turning back. She honestly likes both Rainbow and Alex, they're like polar opposites to each other and she'd be lying if she said she still didn't have feelings for Mal.

Sar sighs and looks away from Alex's gaze. "Okay."

Alex sighs as she drops a hand to cup Sar's cheek. "You know, I care about you, but this is too much." With that, she leans forward and places a kiss on the corner of Sar's lips.

Sar smiles once Alex pulls back. "Friends still?"

Alex smiles brightly. "Always, but, I'm still not kissing Mal."

Sar tosses her head back and laughs. "That's fine, but come." She grabs Alex's hand and leads them back towards Mal and Rainbow.

Rainbow smiles at Alex as the two return. She's never said it, but she's always admired Alex. She was just so calm and collected. She guesses either she picked it up from Garnet or Garnet picked it up from her.

Mal frowns as the two approach and Sar releases Alex's hand to stand back next to Rainbow. She saw their whole interaction but something about Alex kissing Sar bothered her.

"You think about it?" Sar questions Mal.

Mal hums and crosses her arms. "I'll help but I'm not kissing Alex."

Sar shrugs. "You're missing out, Alex is a great kisser."

"Don,' Alex starts but Sar's boisterous laugh interrupts her.

"I'm joking, slightly." She waves a hand dismissing the whole thing. "It's fine, just read the lines."

Mal shoots a glance at Alex who simply shrugs and flips through the script. What the fuck just happened?
