Note
Look, I have no idea really where this story is going. It's gone be pieced together via snippets of conversation. So if the story seems to bounce around or not put together well, that's kinda how I want it. Anyways, enjoy and comment. Each chapter may be a snippet or two. Also, though the story explains it, there's two main families: The Quartz (Rose, Jasper and Ame) and the Pearls (self explanatory). Some characters are also cousins and for the most part each relation is via one commonly shared parent (via mom or via dad).

Chapter 18

"Thank you again Garnet for coming with us," Rose says as they sit in the waiting room in the doctor's office.

Garnet smiles softly at her. "No problem. Thank you for asking or rather inviting me to join you two."

Rose smiles brightly back. "I can't wait for you to see him. He's going to love you."

Garnet nods and places a hand on Rose's. "I hope so."

Rose frowns at Garnet's statement. "Are you worried?"

Garnet shook her head. It's been a while since she's been around infants. "A little, but it's nothing that won't ease once he's here."

Rose nods. "I understand. I was so excited when I found out I was pregnant but what if…"

"Stop. You'll be a great mother, I'm sure of it," Garnet interrupts Rose and squeezes her hand. Garnet looks around and frowns slightly. "Where's Greg?"

Rose's eyes widens. "Oh, he had a last minute concert to play. He actually left yesterday night."

"He didn't want to come?"

"No he did, but I told him to go. I actually wanted to spend this time with you or rather let you spend this time with Steven." At the mention, Steven began kicking. "Oh, he agrees, here, feel." Rose grabs Garnet's hand and places it on her stomach.

Garnet smiles as Steven kicks excitedly underneath her hand. She leans forward so her lips are inches away from her hand. "I can't wait to spend time with you too Steven." At her words, Steven kicks again before he goes quiet. Garnet pulls back with a smile.

"I told you he'll love you." Rose smiles.

"Rose Quartz?" A tall female doctor calls as they entered the waiting room.

"Yes." Rose smiles and stands. Garnet stands with her and together they follow the doctor back into the office.

"This is your sixth month checkup correct?" The doctor questions and they lead the two into a room.

"Yes, though I'm closer to seven months. I had to cancel the appointment when I was exactly six months," Rose says as she takes a seat in the chair.

"Mmm, I see." The doctor looks down at the chart. "Well, this should be a quick procedure. We're just going to check on how Steven is growing."

Garnet is silent as she takes a seat in one of the chairs facing Rose. She watches as the doctor asks Rose to raise her shirt before she squeezes gel on her stomach.

As the appointment proceeds, Garnet turns her attention to the monitor on the wall opposite of them.

"There he goes. Let's see, ten fingers, ten toes, his face and his legs have developed more." The doctor says. "Hmm, his lungs seem to be growing more as well. That's good."

Garnet watches in amazement as she sees Steven. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. Behind her eyes she sees quick flashes of a curly haired boy that looks like a mixture between Greg and Rose.

"Alright, I will print these out along with your discharge papers. I would like for you to come in at eight and a half months for one last checkup." The doctor says and Garnet snaps open her eyes.

"Thank you doctor," Rose says as the doctor slips out. Rose turns to Garnet with happy tears in her eyes. "He's growing well, Garnet."

"He is and he will continue to do so." Garnet smiles back. Rose smiles before she bites her lips. "What is it Rose?"

"I was just curious. What's going on between you and Jasper?"

Garnet hums. "She likes me and I can't deny that I'm interested as well, but we wouldn't be good for each other."

Rose reaches out and places a hand on Garnet's. "I know that I told you to be careful around her, but she really does like you."

Garnet nods. "I know. She asked me out."

"She did, did she?"

Garnet hums and nods her head. "I still don't know."

Rose sighs. She knew it would honestly be a matter of time. Though she and Jasper weren't exactly close, she always knew when her sisters liked someone, and Jasper definitely liked Garnet.

"Say yes."

Garnet snaps her gaze to lock with Rose's. "What?"

Rose smiles. "I didn't notice it at the time but I'm guessing you were the reason Jasper was so distracted during our home game. She got like that only one other time when her ex-girlfriend didn't show up to the game. Yet, when you came and after running into y'all two, she pulled herself together."

Garnet looks away. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Rose's smile brightens. "As much as you're worried that y'all wouldn't work out, you really like her too. How was the kiss?"

"Rose!"

Rose laughs. "You don't have to tell me Garnet. Though you did look like you were enjoying it."

Though Garnet keeps a straight face, she couldn't hide the blush on tinting her cheeks. "She wasn't a bad kisser."

Rose smiles. "Just say yes. Give her a try. Don't leave high school with no regrets. You never know what may come from it."

Garnet smiles. Those were her exact words to Rose about Greg. "Touche."

"Alright Rose, you are good to go." The doctor says as they come in and hand Rose's her papers and sonogram pictures.

"Thank you doctor." Rose smiles at the doctor before she and Garnet exit. "School?"

Garnet looks at her phone; it's only 11am. If they hurry, they could make it for lunch. "Yeah."

Rose smiles as she hands the nurse her discharge papers and receives two excuses in turn. Together she and Garnet exit the doctor's office.

….

"Thank you for coming with me again Garnet," Rose says as they finally enter the school.

"No problem." Garnet smiles back.

"Oh, before I forget. This is for you." Rose hands Garnet the best sonogram picture.

Garnet's eyes widen. "You sure?"

Rose nods. "He's your godson too. Why shouldn't you have a picture of him?"

"Thank you Rose." Garnet wraps Rose in a hug before they separate. As they pull back, Rose gasps. "What?"

Rose blinks, she couldn't believe who it was. "Bismuth?"

At the mention of her name, a slightly bulky girl with rainbow locs turns to face them. "Rose!?"
