~Prologue~
Fatewatcher
Blue blood was dripping everywhere. A large, silver IceWing stood over six dead bodies. Blood stained his talons and his mouth, a cruel, heartless smile on his lips.
He turned to his equally large companions, all who were also covered in blood.
“Well, that’s over with. Let’s go”
The IceWings flew off and Fatewatcher got a closer look at the bodies that were barely recognizable. Most of them had been shot to death by arrows.
His heart twisted when he realized exactly who these dead dragons were.
They were the IceWing Royal Family. And they were all dead.
Except that one was missing.
Fatewatcher woke up, gasping for air. He looked at himself in the mirror, wings curled into his side, tail around his front legs.
He knew it had been another vision, it had to be. It was too realistic, too terrible to be any but a vision of the future.
He looked out the window. The moons were rising, so soon, his tribe would be awake, and more importantly, his queen would be.
He flew down the stairs opening the front door before locking it behind him, flying straight to the palace.
He landed at the entrance to the palace around thirty minutes later, and he was about to run in, but was stopped by a guard.
“What do you need from the queen?” he snarled, aiming his spear at Fatewatcher’s chest.
“I’ve had a vision. A terrible one. Please, let me warn her.”
The guard narrowed his eyes, before nodding at the much younger NightWing.
“You may pass, then.”
Fatewatcher entered the throne room of the queen, bowing to her at the front of her throne.
“Hello, your majesty.”
Queen Eclipse smiled down at him, her smile gentle.
“Hello my dear. What is it you need?”
He flew up the steps, so he sat right in front of her.
“I’ve had a vision, your majesty. A terrible one. It was the IceWings, the revolutionaries… They killed the Royal Family. Not just the king. In my dream, they killed his wife and his dragonets too. All were dead… it was horrible. Blood was everywhere, they were hardly recognizable.”
Her eyes widened in horror at what he had seen. The NightWing and IceWing royal families were close after all, and there had been rumors about the queen and King North being distant cousins.
“Thank you for informing me, Fatewatcher. I’ll send out a scout effective immediately.” she flicked her wing, summoning two more guards.
“You two, please go to the IceWing Kingdom and make sure North and his family are alive and safe. Thank you.”
They bowed and swept out of the window. Fatewatcher turned back to his queen, looking her right in the eyes.
“One more thing.”
She tilted her head, curious.
“What is it?” she asked
“Your majesty… in my dream, one escaped.”
