Prologue

Red hair flowed out onto the silk pillow, creating ripples across its soft surface. Perfectly white wings stretched out across the bed reaching both ends, each individual feather as beautiful as the next. Attached to the wings, a woman laid, eyes closed and body fast asleep. Her mind, however, was far from it, as she wondered the depths of her baron dream.

The sky loomed dark and clouded, not even the moon to light my way. I knew this place was a mere fragment my mind, but it did not help the sense of dread making its way through my veins, sending shivers down my spine. My wings trembled in response to the unsettling surroundings. It’s not just the moon that’s missing, but the trees, the flowers, the colour. I walked across dead land, even the grass wilted and dying.

I felt as if I had been walking for hours, until finally, a noise appears from the shadows. It’s quiet, just a whisper. I focused my ears to tried and pick up on its words. It stayed incoherent mumbles, until slowly, it loudened. “find the girl,” it’s voice sounded like it was coming from inside my mind, rather than from my surroundings.

“The girl?” I echoed; my own voice hesitant against the vast emptiness.

“The girl with the winged feline. Find her before it’s too late,” the voice is laced with a sense of urgency. “My kind is not gone.”

Suddenly the sun rose with such swiftness that the light hurt my eyes. I closed them, struggling to adjust, but as I reopened them, the world slowly disappeared. A dream cannot last forever.
