Chapter 9
The two detectives leave the room and Tricia turns to her brother with a glare and the urge to smack him. “Talk to me, NOW.”
“What do you want me to say, Trish? Huh?” Little Tony raises his hands to rub through his hair but the handcuffs stop his movements. “I slept with the skank, ‘kay? I didn’t kill her. I’m not that sloppy.”
She looked over his face, but his ‘truth face’ didn’t cause her to sit back. “Then who else were you with? I know you don’t like going out alone.”
“God, Trish. Seriously?” Little Tony slumps back in his chair with a sigh. “Mattie was my wingman. He usually is if I can’t get you or Rinaldo.”
Mattie…again. That rat can never stay down a sewage drain. “You tell the pigs?” Tricia dropped the tag without a second thought. Habits from a lifetime are hard to drop.
Little Tony shook his head. “I ain’t no snitch. You know that. They need to work for their pay. No need for us to hand em’ anything, even if there was something to hand them.”
They suddenly look at the wall when there was the sound of a fist hitting reinforced glass. The door creaking open has the two siblings look to the open door and their smiling Uncle Donnie with a frowning Detective Baez who comes to unlock Little Tony’s cuffs.
“Nice accommodations, babe. Maybe we can try out the cuffs somewhere more private next time?” Little Tony makes the comment right before wincing at the hit to the back of his head.
This time Tricia looks at Detective Baez with a small smile, “Brothers,” before ruffling his hair where she smacked him at. “Come on, bro. Maybe not hit on the pretty lady with a gun?”
“Come on, sis. You know those are the sexiest.” Little Tony keeps up their banter with Uncle Donnie leading the way out to the car. “Hey, you coming, sis?”
Tricia looks at her brother and her Uncle. The smart thing would be to go ahead and get in the car with them. The smart thing would be to keep her mouth shut and to let the cops do their thing while her family does theirs. She’s about to take a step towards the car when the ringing of her cell has her pull it out to look at a familiar face and number.
Anthony Assante Sr. would personally deal with the person threatening a member of The Family. Alessandra Assante would have manipulated the chess pieces until the person willingly surrendered to their own bullet. Little Tony? Well, he took after dad a bit too much in certain areas, even if he was trying to go his own path.
But the thing is…what does she do? What is she? She chose the path of law for a reason. Tricia knows what her family does, and the why’s of it. But can she really look Nicky in the eye if another body turns up when she could have given the information to stop it?
