Wednesday had made some pasta with a pesto sauce for everyone, bringing the pot to the table to serve her guest, or well, roommates now? After everyone had their fair share, they ate in silence at first. They weren’t sure how to start a conversation or what to talk about.

-Not bad., said Enid as she tasted the noodles.

Wednesday looked at her and just shrugged.

-Okay, how about we go around the table and introduce ourselves a little? Name, age, a little backstory?, suggested Yoko.

-I like that, yes. Let’s do that., nodded Ajax as he sipped on his water.

-Let’s not., complained Wednesday with a sigh.

-I’ll go first. So, my name is Yoko Tanaka. I’m 22. I grew up with Enid back in Salt Lake City, Utah. We were neighbors. She has been my best friend since, well, forever. Anyways, when I turned 18, I came to LA to follow my photographer career while Enid decided to join the army., said the girl with a smile.

Wednesday raised an eyebrow at that and looked at Enid.

-That explains some of it., muttered the smaller girl.

Enid rolled her eyes at that and decided to ignore the comment. Bianca then spoke up.

-Okay, so, I’m Bianca. I’m 23 and I’m originally from New Jersey but I moved to LA with my parents when I was 10. I work- or well, used to work as a professional makeup artist for celebrities and such. I’ve always liked to make people feel pretty. I used to do my sister’s makeup even though she was older than me before any big event., smiled Bianca, happy to share some of her story with them.

-That’s adorable., replied Yoko with a nod.

-It is, yeah., agreed Enid, slowly easing into this whole situation.

-Next?, asked Bianca, looking around the table.

-I’m Eugene. 17. I was born in San Diego. I became an orphan when I was 6. My mother overdosed and my other mother committed suicide. Been in foster homes ever since., shrugged the boy, avoiding eye contact anxiously.

-That couldn’t have been easy. I’m sorry about your loss., said Enid with a little frown.

-Thank you., replied Eugene with a quick nod.

-Ajax?, asked Yoko, looking at him.

-Right. Yeah. So uhm, I’m Ajax. Yes, like the cleaning supply and the dutch soccer team. I’m 21. I was born in LA and have never left. I work at a garage, I’m a mechanic. Or was, I suppose. My mother got me into cars when I was a kid and now here we are., shrugged the boy.

-Finally a useful job., muttered Wednesday.

Enid glared at the girl, shaking her head in disbelief.

-Cause your job is definitely gonna help us survive a fucking apocalypse, hm?, scoffed Enid.

-Watch it. I could very easily kick you out of my house and let you go live with the wolves., warned Wednesday with a frown.

-Oh yeah? Try me. I dare you., replied the blonde, getting up.

-Sit your ass down, Enid., said Yoko instantly.

The blonde clenched her jaw but obeyed, sitting back down.

-Let’s let the kid introduce herself, hm?, said Yoko, motioning the little girl who was seemingly uncomfortable with the tension at the table.

Enid took the hint and just nodded. The little girl looked at the others, not sure what to do. She looked at Bianca who gave her a reassuring smile.

-My name is Amy. I’m 7. I’m in second grade. I like drawing and singing. I have a dog named Ernie. He’s very big. Bigger than Buddy., confessed Amy with a shy little smile.

-Yeah? Well, do you wanna go draw something later before bedtime?, asked Bianca with a chuckle.

Amy grinned and nodded excitedly, eating up her pasta faster so she could leave the table. Yoko then turned to look at Enid, who unfortunately knew what her best friend was expecting her to do. The blonde sighed and finally gave in.

-I’m Enid. 22. Born in Salt Lake City which Yoko already mentioned. She also already told you that I joined the army when I turned 18. The Marine Corps in Pennsylvania to be exact. That’s where I’ve spent my last 4 years. And yeah, that’s it., said Enid, avoiding the more sensitive parts of her past, like the fact that her mormon parents had arranged a marriage for her with a man when they found out that she had a girlfriend, which is why she ran away and joined the military.

-You? In the Marines? That’s funny., chuckled Wednesday.

-Yeah? What’s so funny about that?, asked Enid, slowly losing it with the girl’s snarky comments.

-You don’t look like on., shrugged the smaller girl.

-And you don’t look like an asshole, but guess what?, replied the blonde, getting elbowed by Yoko who motioned Amy.

Enid clenched her jaw, being done with all of this. She got up and grabbed her plate that she had finished. She put it in the sink and then walked out of the dinning area. Yoko looked at Wednesday.

-Can I speak to you? In private?, said the girl, already getting up.

Wednesday rolled her eyes and got up, following Yoko into the living room. The smaller girl looked annoyed, not in the mood for a lecture from a stranger.

-I get it, okay. You’re not used to behaving like a fucking human being because you isolate yourself from them, hm? But that is no excuse to speak to anyone like that. You do not get to feel superior to us because you’re famous and have money. We would not be alive right now if it weren’t for Enid so how about you show a little respect and stop trying to provoke her. It is not going to get you inside her goddamn pants., said Yoko with a frown.

-Excuse me?, scoffed Wednesday.

-You heard me. Now cut the stoic act and go apologize to Enid. You have no idea the bullshit she’s been through. You have no right to judge her without knowing her. Go., continued the girl.

-And why do you think you can just order me around?, asked the smaller girl, raising an eyebrow at her.

-Enid is known for her short temper. You’re lucky she walked away instead of smashing your head against the table. I’m not telling you to apologize to make Enid feel better. I’m telling you so she won’t smack the shit out of you the next time you open your mouth around her. Now, the decision is yours., said Yoko with a shrug, not letting Wednesday reply, just walking away.

The smaller girl just stood there, in the middle of the living room, unsure what to think or do at that point. She was obviously too proud to apologize to Enid for being a dick. But she also knew that she’s gonna spend a while stuck in a place with the blonde. Maybe she should stop pushing her buttons that much. Although it was hard to imagine Enid as a violent person. Maybe Yoko was just saying that to try and scare Wednesday. Well, on the other hand, she had witnessed Enid killing a few of those infected. The smaller girl let out a sigh and eventually decided to go after the blonde.
