Enid tackled the boy the second he turned around to shoot at Wednesday, the bullets flying through the aisle. The gun fell out of his hands, so Enid quickly grabbed it and handed it to Wednesday, while keeping the boy on the floor. Wednesday just grabbed the gun, trying to process this entire thing. Enid looked down at the boy who was desperately trying to free himself.
-Hey. Hey! Stop fighting. I’m not going to hurt you., said Enid with a frown.
The teenager was breathing heavily but he stopped fighting. He looked up at the blonde, clearly scared.
-You can’t just go around shooting everyone without reason. I understand that you killed our coworker. It was self defense. But almost killing a stranger with no reason? No., said Enid calmly.
-I got…scared., admitted the boy.
-I know. If I let you go, you won’t try anything, right?, asked the blonde.
He instantly nodded, just wanting to get up and run away.
-Do you live far away from here?, asked Wednesday suddenly.
-Yeah. I have to take a train to work. Why?, frowned the boy.
-I don’t think that’s gonna go well. Do you know your family’s landline phone number?, asked Enid, looking down at him.
-No. They’re my new foster family. I’ve only been with them for two weeks., replied the boy.
Enid sighed and got off him. She helped him up and looked at him.
-Listen, we’re already a small group. We’re looting and then leaving to a more secure place. You’re welcome to join., said the blonde.
-So we’re just going around recruiting people now?, asked Wednesday.
-He’s scared and alone. Just like the little girl in the car., stated Enid.
-Yeah, except that he had a shotgun and almost killed me., nodded Wednesday.
Enid looked at the boy. He seemed like he was trying to make the right decision, clearly confused and unsure about the whole thing.
-What’s your name?, asked the blonde.
-Eugene., replied the boy.
-Eugene, I’m Enid. This is Wednesday. Now, if I let you come with us, I need to know that you won’t try hurting anyone. You’re not going near any weapons. Are we clear?, asked Enid seriously.
-Very., nodded Eugene quickly.
-So you’re coming with us?, wondered Wednesday.
-I don’t have anyone anyways. I might as well., nodded the boy.
-Good. Grab your belongings. Loot the place for anything necessary and then we’re leaving., said Enid, waiting for him to leave to then turn to Wednesday.
The smaller girl looked back at her.
-What?, asked Wednesday.
-I told you to wait in the car., said Enid with a frown.
-Okay, and? You can tell me to jump off a cliff, doesn’t mean I’ll do it., shrugged Wednesday.
The blonde scoffed and shook her head. She grabbed the shotgun away from Wednesday.
-Go take care of the fuel and gas cans. I’ll loot with the kid., said Enid.
-Fine. But only because I want to. Not because you told me to., stated the smaller girl as she walked out again.
Enid sighed, knowing that being stubborn can sometimes cost someone’s life. She was hoping that Wednesday would realize that she was just trying to keep her safe. The blonde then started to look through the aisles, grabbing tons of batteries and flashlights. She also found a water pump to filter water and a whole shelf full of canned food. She assembles a few first aid kits as well as sleeping bags. She then found a few ropes and an axe, knowing that it will be needed in the wilderness. She also grabbed a fire starter and a compass. After putting everything in the back of the pickup truck, she got in the car, joining Wednesday. The smaller girl had filled four gas cans with fuel.
-Where’s Eugene?, asked Enid.
-Don’t know. You were the one inside with him., shrugged Wednesday.
Enid rolled her eyes, tired of the attitude. She got out of the car again and into the building.
-Eugene?, asked the blonde.
-Coming!, said the boy as he showed up with his backpack and his hands full.
Enid saw all the small boxes in his hands.
-I got meds from the back. They used to sell them here illegally., stated the boy.
-Perfect. Get everything in the truck., nodded Enid with a light smile.
He smiled back, happy to have contributed so he just walked back outside with Enid. Wednesday was just waiting for the two to be inside of the truck before driving off and away from the gas station. On their way back, Enid noticed a police car near Yoko’s building. She waited to be inside of the garage and then go out of the truck.
-I’m gonna loot the cop car we just saw., said the blonde.
-Mhm., replied Wednesday as she got out as well.
-Enid, look what we go., smiled Yoko.
The blonde looked over at them, seeing ammunition and the bow with arrows. Ajax was also holding a tool box.
-Perfect. Get everything in the pickup truck. We’ve still got space., said the blonde with a smile.
Enid then walked out of the garage, checking if she could hear or see anyone before walking over to the police vehicle. She went to the trunk, checking to see if it was locked. It wasn’t. She opened it, raising her eyebrows. Bulletproof vests, an assault rifle, a shotgun, ammunition, two helmets and batons along with a first aid and survival supplies such as flares, an axe and a pocket knife. The blonde closed the trunk and got in the driver’s seat. There was no keys inside of the ignition.
-Shit., sighed the blonde.
Enid got out. She had hoped they could take the car with them but without the key, it just wasn’t going to happen. At least that’s what she thought.
-What are you doing?, asked Yoko, now standing by the car with Wednesday.
-Can’t find the keys. We could use the supplies in this car., said the blonde.
Wednesday walked up to the trunk, opening it. She grabbed the pocket knife and closed the trunk again. The smaller girl walked to the driver’s seat, getting in. She reached under the steering wheel, ripping out two wires, cutting them with the pocket knife. Enid looked at Yoko who was equally as surprised, more so when the car started running.
-I’ll drive this one. With you., said Wednesday, motioning for Yoko to get in.
-Oh uh. Okay., nodded the girl, giving Enid a confused look.
Yoko opened the backseat’s door to let Buddy jump in before closing the door. She then got in the passenger’s seat, not saying a word. The blonde didn’t say anything. She sighed and walked back to the garage, getting in the pickup truck. When she got in, she saw the little girl sitting on a seat. Enid didn’t say anything. She made sure the girl had her seatbelt on and then told Eugene to get in as well. Enid started the car, motioning for Ajax, who was now behind the wheel in the van, to follow her. The blonde drove out of the garage and up to the police car. She watched as Yoko rolled down the window.
-Here, catch., said Yoko as she threw a walkie talkie to Enid.
The blonde caught it and turned it on.
-Channel 4., replied Enid to which Yoko nodded.
Ajax and Bianca also got one. Enid spoke into her.
-Alright. Stick together. Don’t abandon each other. We’ve got a few hours of driving ahead of us. Wednesday, lead the way. Over., said the blonde quickly.
The smaller girl didn’t response through the device, simply driving off. Enid followed behind, wanting to be in the middle in a way to keep the two minors safe. Ajax then drove after the pickup truck. They followed Wednesday out of the city.
