I know that not everyone is a big fan of zombie apocalypse but trust me, the story will not be about survival only. If you've read my stuff, you know how messy my books get xd

As they were making their way downstairs, they heard someone walking up the stairs. Enid instantly gripped her spear tighter, ready to fight. She motioned for everyone to stop walking, which they surprisingly did. Even Wednesday. Enid looked down the stairs, seeing an elderly man weirdly walking up the stairs. Who in their right mind would walk up a building instead of making their way out in such a situation? And seemingly, she was right as she noticed his weirdly red colored eyes lock eyes with her. He started running up the stairs to her, screeching as he did.

Enid ran towards him as well, confusing the girls and scaring the shit out of Yoko. The blonde stabbed the man in his chest, the spear being used with so much force that it ended up stabbing the wall behind the man as well. The girls behind Enid seemed in shock at her action, frozen on the spot. Except for Wednesday. She was eyeing Enid with something the girl couldn’t recognize.

-Enid- Why did you- why did you do that?, asked Yoko with a shaky voice.

-He was going to attack us., said the blonde, blood on her hoodie.

-You could have just- knocked him out., added Bianca.

-And let him rush down the stairs once he’s awake again, attacking us from behind?, replied the blonde, looking at the lifeless body, impaled by her spear.

The girls went quiet again. Enid sighed and pulled the spear out, watching the man’s body fall down on the ground. She looked up at the group.

-Let’s go., said Enid quickly.

Yoko gave the elderly man one last look before following her best friend down the stairs along with the other two girls. Enid guided them down until they reached the ground floor. She opened the door to the hallway slightly and looked out. There were some people stumbling around in slow-motion. Enid closed the door again and sighed, looking at her friends.

-Where is the van parked?, asked the blonde, looking at Wednesday.

-It’s right in front of the building. Perks of my VIP parking space., shrugged the smaller girl.

-Perfect. I suggest we make a run for it., said Enid.

-A run for it? Are you insane?, frowned Yoko.

-Do you have any better ideas?, asked the blonde with a sigh.

-I do, actually., stated Yoko this time.

She took out her keys and pulled out a keychain.

-What’s that?, asked Bianca curiously as she looked at the weird small device.

-It’s a small alarm. When you pull this pin, a high pitched alarm goes off., explained Yoko.

-Okay. Hand it over., said Enid, seeing where this was going.

-What? Why can’t I do it?, asked Yoko with a frown.

-Because last time I saw you throw something was in P.E. class when you missed every dodgeball throw. Hand it over, Yok., chuckled Enid.

Yoko rolled her eyes at Enid’s comment and handed the device over to Enid.

-Cover your ears., ordered Enid as she got ready to pull the pin.

The girls did as told, except for Wednesday of course. Enid ignored the stubborn celebrity and pulled out the pin, wincing at the sound. She pushed the door open quickly and threw the device down the hall at the lunch area. She closed the door rapidly, hearing numerous quick footsteps running towards the noise.

-Now or never., said the blonde as she pushed open the door, seeing a group of them around the device.

Everyone got out and ran towards the exit as Wednesday took her keys out, getting in her van instantly and starting it. Enid held the door open for the girls to get in the backseat. She quickly ran up to the pole she had secured Yoko’s bicycle on, dragging the item to the trunk and shoving it inside before getting in the passenger’s seat.

-Drive!, yelled Enid.

-I don’t know where., stated Wednesday with a frown.

-I’ll tell you the directions, just drive already., said Yoko quickly.

Wednesday sighed and hit the pedal, driving off and away from the building. As Yoko kept giving Wednesday the directions to her place, Enid looked out the car, seeing the chaos unfold. Things were on fire. People were running and screaming. Bloody clothes everywhere. Maybe Yoko wasn’t all that wrong when she was talking about zombies last night? But how was this possible? All because of stupid beans? Soybeans? Really? There had to be more behind it. Something just felt off.

Suddenly her eyes were stuck on a scene. A car had driven into a bodega. The woman behind the wheel wasn’t moving. But there was someone in the back. A little girl, crying and shaking her mother, trying to get her to wake up. Enid’s instincts kicked in.

-Stop the van., said Enid quickly.

-What? Why-, started Wednesday with a frown.

-Stop the van!, yelled the blonde as she pulled the handbrake up, forcing the van to stop.

Yoko and Bianca hit the sits in front of them, complaining about the sudden stop, but Enid couldn’t care less. The blonde got out and rushed towards the car. First she tried to open the woman’s door, but in vain. It was locked. She then looked at the little girl who was visibly shaking and terrified. Enid took her hoodie off, wrapping it around her hand before punching the mother’s window open. She instantly checked her pulse, not feeling one. She then noticed a flat piece of metal that had almost cut the woman in two. Enid clenched her jaw and her eyes locked with the now quiet child.

-Enid, hurry up!, yelled Yoko from the van.

Enid sighed and opened the girl’s door.

-I need you to come with me., said Enid quickly.

-But my mom., frowned the girl.

-She’s gone, kid. We can’t save her. I’m sorry., apologized the blonde.

-I don’t wanna go., replied the girl with tears in her eyes.

-I’m sorry but I’m not leaving you here. Now come on. We need to go., said Enid as she reached into the car but the girl moved away from her.

-No!, yelled the girl.

-If you stay, you will die. Please just come with me., tried Enid, knowing that being honest was the only way of getting that girl to come with her.

The little girl was now crying, but finally started moving. She grabbed her little green backpack and then scooted over to Enid before getting out of the car.

-I’m gonna pick you up, okay?, said the blonde.

The little girl just nodded, trying to hold her sobs in. Enid felt bad for her. She picked her up carefully and then rushed over to the van, quickly closing the door. The second the door closed, Wednesday drove off.
