We can start with dinner

There was a knock on the door. Clarke knew who was it and looked at her mother with silent plea. Abby just nodded and went to open the door. Lexa was standing outside with her hands in her pockets. She looked at Abby who just left the door open and took a step back so Lexa could come in.

“Mom!” Aden shouted and run towards his mother. He was little but he knew something was wrong because his mom wasn’t spent so much time home as she used to.

“Hi baby.” She picked him up and hugged him tightly. Over his shoulder she looked at Clarke. The blonde didn’t look good. She had bags under her eyes. Her skin was so pale. Her face just screamed tired. Lexa wanted nothing more like just took the blonde in her arms and forget about everything. “Aden do you think I can talk with mommy?” She looked at the boy who just nodded. Abby took him to another room with some blocks. “Clarke…”

“Stop.” Clarke cut Lexa off. “I’m not going to change my mind.” They weren’t good to each other right now. Clarke knew that. They needed to stop hurting each other.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t acted like that. I shouldn’t have said those things. Clarke please come home. We can work this out. I can be better.” Lexa took step closer to Clarke but blonde took step back.

“Lexa you are perfect the way you are. I get that you were hurt. You still are. I know that you felt like I was lying, like I betrayed you in some way. I get that. I really do. I didn’t tell you about miscarriage because I thought I was protecting you. I thought I do the right thing… But what you said the last time you did that on purpose. You said that just to hurt me. We are not good for each other right now. I can’t come home. No matter how selfish it will sound I need to focus on myself, on my mental health, on my son. I want to be better for him. I missed so much and I don’t want to do that again. I can’t be better living with you. We would have only hurt each other more. It isn’t healthy Lexa.”

“Clarke I love you.”

“I love you too but right now I’m not good. I don’t want to destroy us. I love you guys too much. You are amazing parent and partner I could have ever imagine. We will be okay. Just give us time.” Lexa nodded. Clarke kissed Lexa’s cheek and smiled a little bit. The brunette stood up and looked at Aden.

“Come on Aden. It’s time to go home.”

“Can we have ice cream?”

“Yes baby. We can.”

“Mommy you don’t go with us?” Aden asked seeing she wasn’t wearing her jacket and boots.

“No sweetie. I’m going to stay with grandma for a while but don’t worry we will see each other lots.”

“Why? I don’t want you to stay here.”

“I know baby but I need to. You can have sleepovers here sometimes and I will pick you up from preschool, we will go to the park and ice cream. Nothing will change baby.”

“Can I have sleepover with mom?”

“Yes, you will be sleeping at home most of the time.”

“But I want to sleep with you both.”

“I know baby but right now mommy needs to stay with grandma.”

“You don’t love mom anymore?”

“Oh baby I love your mom so much.” Clarke looked Lexa in the eyes when she said that. “But I just need to stay here for a little bit.” As hurtful as it was for Clarke she needed to do this.

For almost three weeks Lexa gave Clarke her space. They were talking only when something concerned Aden or when Lexa and Clarke dropped their son on each other places. Clarke was getting better and better. She was going to a regular therapy sessions in her workplace. She started to finally forgiving herself. Even if it was a slow process she it was still a step forward.

Lexa on the other hands threw out all alcohol she had in the house. She stopped drinking at bars and asked Lincoln for some help how to deal with all these thoughts. She spent as much time she could with Aden when she wasn’t working. She tried to call Clarke a million times but she never had a courage to actually dialed the blonde’s number. She needed to know how Clarke was feeling so Abby was really helpful and was telling her about Clarke progress but not as detailed as Lexa would wanted to.

The brunette could finally see that in fact she didn’t blame the blonde for the whole situation. She didn’t even mad for not telling her about miscarriage because if the role would be reversed she would have done the same thing as Clarke. Lincoln was really helpful. He showed her that her action towards Clarke as much as it was not fair it was just human reaction. Lexa started to talking more about her feelings and for her that was huge and first step in the right direction.

They both thought they were doing what was best but made a poor choices, and that what made them human. The question was what they would do t made this situation better.

Aden was sad that his moms didn’t look happy, that his moms didn’t spend time together anymore. He tried to come up with a plan how to makes his moms to spending time together. He woke up in the morning and went to his mom’s room. Lexa was sleeping peacefully in her bed when she felt two hands patting her on the forehead.

“Mom wake up!” Aden laid on top of her and patted her cheeks when she didn’t open her eyes. “Mom!!!” he shouted into her direction but his mom still didn’t open her eyes so he thought that he tried something Clarke always did. Hi kissed her on the cheek and smiled when he saw a small smile on his mom face. “Come on mom. Wake up.”
“Okay, okay.” Lexa opened her eyes and smile at his son. He was bigger and bigger each day. She hugged him tightly and presses lots of kisses on his face. “Good morning monkey. Why aren’t you sleeping?” She looked at him and stroked his hair.

“My tummy hurts. I think we need to go to mommy.” He said and did his famous pout that neither Lexa or Clarke couldn’t resist.

“Your tummy? I have some medicine we could give you and I’m sure you feel better.” Lexa said, concern written all over her face.

“No!” Aden answered quickly, too quickly. “We need to go to hospital to mommy.” He insisted. Aden knew that if they went to Clarke then his moms finally could spent some time together.

“Okay. Let’s make sure mommy is at work.” Lexa rubbed his stomach and kissed him forehead. She took her phone from her nightstand and dialed Clarke’s number. She waited 4 rings when she heard her voice.

“Hi Lex, what’s up?” She was surprised because Clarke didn’t call her Lex in over 2 months. She smiled.

“Hi Clarke. I wanted to ask if you’re at work today?”

“Yeah I am. Did something happened?” Clarke started to sound concerned.

“It might be nothing. Aden says his stomach hurts and he insisted we go to you for check up.” Lexa knew that it was probably just simple stomachache because quite frankly they ate a lot of unhealthy food last night when they did a movie night.

“Did you gave him something?”

“No, he just told me about the pain and he wanted to go to you. Can we stop by so you can check him?” Lexa hoped that Clarke didn’t have a busy day today. She didn’t wanted to bother her at work. She heard some muffled sounds on the other side and then Clarke spoke again.

“Sure. I just pushed my surgery for another hour. I’ll wait for you in my office.”

“Okay. We’ll be there in fifteen.” They hung up. Lexa told Aden to dress up and she did the same. Couple minutes later they both were in the car driving to hospital. When they crossed hospital door the went straight to Clarke’s office.

“Mommy!” Aden yelled as soon he saw his other mother. He jumped to her laps and hugged her. “My tummy hurts.” He said and curled up in her chest.

“I heard. Come on, we’ll see what is going on in there.” She smiled softly at him and rubbed his stomach gently. Clarke looked at Lexa and gave her a shy smile.

“Can mom come too? I want her there.” Aden asked and looked at Clarke and then at Lexa and reached his hand to her.

“Of course baby.” Clarke said and put Aden on the ground. She took his hand on one side and Lexa on another. The three of them went to a examine room and Clarke started to check his stomach. “Okay little guy. Tell me where it hurts the most?” She asked him and waited for his son to showed her the area.

“Um…” Aden hesitated a little and looked at her with big eyes. “Here?” he pointed to the center of his stomach. Clarke looked at him quizzically.

“Are you sure buddy?” Aden nodded and Clarke put pressure on the area he pointed but he didn’t even made a face. Clarke suspected that he was lying but she didn’t know why he did that. “How much your tummy hurts?” She asked him.

“Lots.” He said and Clarke smirked. She looked at Lexa and when she saw her concerned face she smiled gently at her and mouthed to her ‘watch this’. Lexa looked at her confused but nodded.

“I’m sorry baby but I think we need to give you a shot for this.” Aden’s eyes widened and looked at Lexa scared. They both knew Aden was scared of needles and if he is really faking it then he’ll confess before she do something.

“Are this really necessary?” Lexa asked. She didn’t know what’s going on. She wasn’t a doctor.

“Oh yes. I’m sorry baby.” Clarke took out empty syringe and started to looking for a needle but before she opened the correct drawer Aden shouted.

“It doesn’t hurt! I don’t need this mommy!” He looked at his mommy and smiled.

“But you said it hurts a lot.” Clarke said barely holding a laugh because she knew her son is about to break. In that moment Lexa got it why Clarke said he need a shot. She smiled to herself.

“No mommy. It’s okay now.” Aden tried to convince his mother that he is okay. He stood up and touched his stomach. “You see? It doesn’t hurt.” He took a step towards her mother and closed the drawers with needles.

“Aden…” Lexa looked at their son. “If your mother say you need a shot then you need a shot. You wanted to come here.” Lexa pick him up and sat him on the table again.

“No!!!” He said and sighed. “I lied.” He confessed and looked at the floor pouting.

“I know baby.” Clarke said and kneeled in front of his son. “I was joking. I’m sorry you got scared.” She kissed him on the head. “Can you tell me why you lied?” She took his chin in her hand and slightly lifted it up so she could look in her son’s green yes.

“I just wanted to spent time with you and mom.” Aden’s tone was sad. Clarke looked at Lexa and for the first time in three weeks she saw how unhappy they made their son. She felt bad that they always spent time with him alone. Never as a family and family time was what Aden clearly needed.

“How about I come home after my shift and spent time with you two? We can eat dinner together and watch some cartoons if you’d like?” She looked at Lexa to see if she was okay with that and she only nodded. When Aden heard it a big smile appeared on his face.

“Yes! We can make you’re favorite. Mac’n’cheese!” Aden said and his parents only laughed because it was Aden’s favorite not Clarke but they agreed.

“It sound lovely. Mommy need to go and work now but I promise you I’ll be there for dinner okay?” She smiled and when he nodded she kissed him on the cheek. She stood up and looked at Lexa. It was time for them to spent some time together. They both know that they need to rebuilt their relationship little by little. "Are you sure you're okay with this?"

“I think we can start with dinner.” Lexa smiled and looked at Clarke hesitantly. “Do you think we can talk a bit after he’ll go to sleep?” They needed to talk sooner or later. She was sure that they could start tonight.

“Yes, I think we can.” Clarke smiled a bit and hugged his son one more time. “Bye baby. I’ll see you tonight.” She looked at Lexa. “You too Lex.” And with that she left the room and went to her surgery.

Later that day Clarke was standing in front of the mirror trying out different outfits. She didn't know why she was so nervous. It was just the dinner, at least it was what she was telling herself. It's okay, it's going to be you, Aden and... Lexa. Clarke knew they both needed to fix their relationship. She loved Lexa and she was so sure that Lexa oved her back. Yes, they had some problems and issues to work out but she knew they were strong enough to overcome it. 30 minutes later she was standing in front of their house. It was time to finally start to fixing this relationship. For them, for Aden.
