Call My Baby Lollipop

“This wasn’t exactly what I had in mind when I said I wished we could take a trip back in time.” Steve laughed, watching his girlfriend get ready.
“Are you complaining?” [Y/N] asked with a raised brow as she stared at him in the mirror.
“Not at all.”
“Good.” She nodded, tightening her long [h/c] hair she had managed to pull into a ponytail, “Now I know it’s about a decade past your time but really the 50’s were just as great.”
“And how would you know?” Steve teased.
“Movies, my grandparents stories, books.” [Y/N] answered with a shrug, fixing the scarf around her neck.
“You look great baby-doll.” Steve said with one of his heart melting smiles he reserved just for her.
“You’re quite easy on the eyes yourself lollipop~”
He only laughed at her pet name, never having heard that one before but it was cute nonetheless. Standing up he made sure his shirt was tucked in before pulling on his leather jacket, already having slicked back his hair, and put an arm around her.
“Just be your old 1940’s self tonight.” [Y/N] instructed as they walked into the elevator.
“I thought this was a 50’s thing though?” He asked with a confused look.
“No one will know the difference so just go with it.”
Steve just stared down at the woman beside him with tender blue eyes, she was his light in a life that seemed filled with nothing but confusion, blood, and darkness. The elevator opened and with intertwined hands they stepped into the party. Everything already seemed to be well under way, with La Bamba blaring and people dressed similarly to, if not exactly like, them.
“Hey, hey!” Tony cheered as he approached them, his brunette hair slicked back and his own leather jacket thrown over his shoulder, “You two look like you jumped right out of a history book!”
“Well this was my grandmother’s so it literally came from the 50’s and Steve is walking history so that’s to be expected.” [Y/N] laughed.
Tony and Steve chuckled at the accurate explanation before watching as [Y/N] hurried off to the bar, which was now set up like a 1950’s malt shop. Tony’s brown eyes then fixed back on his blonde companion with a knowing look.
“You are smitten my friend,” He remarked with a sincere smile.
“Is it that obvious?” Steve asked nervously, rubbing the back of his neck with a sheepish grin.
“The blind man who feeds the pigeons outside the tower can see it.”
“She’s just….I love her.”
“Yeah? Well make sure you tell her that every day, this life isn’t guaranteed.”
“Actually-“
“You haven’t told her yet have you?” Tony asked in exasperation.
“Well it’s not like I’ve done this before Tony!” Steve defended.
“Done what?” [Y/N] asked, returning to the men with one strawberry malt, which was handed to Steve, and a chocolate one for herself.
“You’re man here has never Swing danced.” Tony lied quickly, eyeing Steve with a ‘you-own-me’ look.
“How can you be from the 40’s and not Swing dance?” She laughed in disbelief.
“I’m a bad dancer.” Steve shrugged, attempting to play along.
“You’re no fun!” [Y/N] teased, “Now I’ll have to get Bucky to teach me.”
Steve frowned at that, sure Bucky was his best friend but that didn’t mean he liked the idea of him dancing like that with his girlfriend.
“I’ll give it a try for you baby doll.” Steve reassured, “I know how to swing, I’ve just never trusted myself to.”
“Well mister bad dancer,” [Y/N] said, putting her cup down and taking his hands, “come dance with me now.”
“Now?” Steve yelped, nearly choking on his malt.
“Not swing don’t worry, just….dance with me?”
He couldn’t turn her down, not when she seemed so hopeful, so despite his lack of dancing ability he took her hand and allowed her to lead him onto the dance floor where Great Balls Of Fire was now playing.
To his utter relief he managed to not step on [Y/N]’s feet and was actually having a great time out on the dance floor with her, twirling her about and just enjoying the feeling of being so close to her. When Love Me Tender began he could feel her tense slightly but couldn’t understand why. When she made to leave the dance floor he held her back, pulling her against his against and wrapping his arms securely around her waist. This was no coincidence, knowing Tony, and he knew better than to pass up a perfect moment.
“Steve-“
“Dance with me?” He asked innocently, swaying to the gentle music.
Her arms hesitantly wrapped around his neck, laying her head on his chest as she did so. They danced in silence but he could feel the words bubbling within him, just begging to be spoken.
“I love you [Y/N].” Steve whispered into her ear, pressing a tender kiss to her neck as the moment of truth approached.
“Steve….” She breathed, pulling away just enough so that she could look up at him, “Oh Steve I love you too.”
They smiled at one another, sharing a chaste kiss as the music drew to an end. But even as a new song began they remained swaying together to the rhythm of their own sweet melody. It was only when Tony walked up, throwing an enthusiastic arm around them that they separated.
“So my dear love birds,” He began with a smirk, “when’s the wedding?”
“Tony!” Steve exclaimed as a crimson faced [Y/N] buried his face into his chest.
