Come Little Children

♫Come little children
I’ll take thee away
Into a land of enchantment♫

The sweet melody danced through the air, piercing the darkness of the night and filling the eerie night with an unsettling peace.
The six friends looked between each other before five of them simultaneously walking in the direction of the music, immediately feeling drawn to the serene tune being sang by an unknown being. Steve, dressed as a soldier, hesitated for only a moment before following after his friends. Natasha’s red hair, illuminated by the glow of jack-o-lanterns along the path, made it easy for him to catch his friends even if her black spider costume blended with the night around them. Bruce, dressed as a scientist, was the only other one to seem even a bit hesitant but he followed behind a king clad Thor nonetheless. In the front of the group, eagerly leading the way, was Tony, dressed as the tin man, with a Robin Hood dressed Clint. The music carried on, pulling at their very souls as they hurried along into the night.

♫Come little children
The time’s come to play
Here in my garden of shadows♫

Deep within there was a voice telling each of them to run, that this sweet voice would lead them to nothing but disaster, but it was too late. Tricks and treats all but forgotten, they were soon joined by numerous other children drawn by the same melody that had drawn them.

♫Follow sweet children
I’ll show thee the way
Through all the pain and the sorrows♫

It was as through this voice was wrapping silken words around them, comforting and assuring them with each word as they were guided along.
They all had their ghosts but whoever it was luring them closer promised them freedom from the past. Showing them a certain kind of bliss that none had ever known in their lives. It made them all the more eager to please this entity for it granted a peace that was sweeter than any candy.
Even children weren’t without scars.

♫Weep not poor children
For life is this way
Murdering beauty and passion♫

A small house, hidden deep within the woods, soon came into view out of the fog. There was none but a beautiful [h/c] haired woman in sight, sitting on a swing that hung on a tree not too far from where the house stood. It was her voice that called to them all, pulling them closer with every note that carried through the night. Her [e/c] eyes practically glowed as she slowly opened them, smiling in greeting as she continued to sing, before standing and seemingly gliding to where all the children gathered.
Her gentle touch sent shivers through them, it was calming yet at the same time unnerving….almost threatening, though her lingered for but a moment on each of them. She beckoned to them, urging them to follow as she led them deeper into the forest. Only stopping once reaching a clearing lit only by candles scattered about.

♫Hush now dear children
It must be this way
Too weary of life and deceptions♫

She guided the children into a circle around her, directing them with her song. Watching as the little ones obediently took their places around her.

♫Rest now my children
For soon we’ll away
Into the calm and the quiet♫

One by one she approached each of them, pressing her smooth lips into the innocent flesh of their foreheads or cheeks before retaking her place in the center of the circle. She continued her hypnotic lullaby. Turning to glance into each of their eyes, to watch as they so peaceful closed, before the little beings fell lifelessly to the ground as her song drew its final notes.
As the last of the children, a little blonde boy masquerading as a soldier, fall to the ground the witch wiped a tear from her eye. The little ones were always so beautiful when resting. Slowly walking around her circle of lovelies, she placed a [favorite flower] upon each of their chests.
Samhain was near over now, it was time for her to take her leave.
