Chapter 4
"Hi Elphie." Glinda said, and smiled the widest she had in months.
"Hey, i got your coffee, again for the second day in a row." Elphaba said, smiling. They had both eventually pulled back, and were smiling at each other longingly.
A kid cleared their throat, pulling them back into reality much faster than both of them wanted. Elphaba handed Glinda her coffee and walked away calmly. Glinda took a few sips from the coffee, which Elphaba had deemed, the 'bane of her existence.' since it wasn't just black coffee. It was 10% coffee, and 90% sugar. It was pretty good though, (At least... in Glinda's opinion)
"Okay, class. Let's get started! Today, we are going over some more proportional stuff, so keep your ears open." Glinda said, smiling and beginning her lesson.
She was going over it very simply, giving them an idea on the human bodies' proportions, and giving them tips while doing so. Eventually, when she finished the lesson, and let the kids try it out, most of them already familiar in this type of drawing style. Glinda opened the drawer to her desk, and pulled out the canvas, along with her watercolors.
Glinda smiled to herself, adding more contrast and filling in negative space, painting the classroom- no. Painting her Art Room. After a while, it really started coming to life, and like usual... She got lost in it, hunched over and painting the canvas so... so lovingly. until... She sketched out someone special sitting on a desk near hers that she hadn't painted on yet.
Elphaba Thropp, Glinda was painting Elphaba Thropp. She effortlessly sketched out a dazed expression on her face, with a slightly furrowed brow, and marked out freckles on her face, like she had always known they were there. She drew on Elphaba's favorite outfit to wear to the school, a black turtleneck, with an olive-green trench coat, tan trousers, and her brown and gold belt.
Oh how Glinda loved that outfit, but that was when she stopped. She had suddenly just discovered something brand new... Her face was flushing, her pulse was rushing... What was this feeling...? She brushed it off as a good friendship, and put the canvas back in her drawer, Aswell as her watercolors, and looked at her class.
They were all happy, and comfortable in this room, (Unlike Elphaba's...) And talking quietly about different topics to each other, occasionally laughing, or loudly insulting each other in a joking matter. All of it made Glinda smile.
The bell rung a while later, and Glinda got back to explain the lesson again, which put a smile on her face.
Glinda loved teaching.
Elphaba was explaining something about munchkinland's farmland's changes throughout the decades, and eventually told the class they would have to write an 8 paragraph essay on the reasonings of the soil growth, and changes. It was actually pretty tame, considering she had made last years classes do an entire model of the Emerald City's history. (Lets just say, that's how she got her horrible reputation.)
The whole class seemed to sigh in relief, and started to write and chatter very quietly. Elphaba sat at her desk and started to write a little story of some sorts, she was never really... destined to be an artist, just to be a writer. She had the passion, just never really had the time to embrace it, at all... Her father always gave her jobs to do out of his pure hatred, calling her unpure, and sinfull, for her skin color, and also because she called herself-....
It doesn't matter... it never will.
Elphaba started to get up, and tell her class to pack up. She rubbed her temples, she needed to get a grip, so she let her mind wander. And of course...
her mind drifted to a certain blonde-haired girl, one who Elphaba adored with all of her hear- No. Just really wanted to be better friends with. Yeah, that... (Totally...)
Elphaba was now in a prep hour, the bell had rung, and she could see Fiyero walking in. She didn't really care today, she was still thinking about... a certain someone. And Fiyero noticed, and smirked at her.
"Oooh... is my dear Fae daydreaming about a certain... Blonde??" Fiyero said slyly.
"WHAT?!- No-" Elphaba's face flushed a very prominent shade of violet and frowned.
"Oh. okay, I'll stop." Fiyero said, putting his hands up in mock surrender, smiling at Elphaba's sigh of relief. He took one more look at her, before gaining a smug grin on his face and saying:
"When you two start dating." Fiyero finished, and got a pen chucked at his face, making him howl with laughter.
"Yero!- you absolute fucking idi-" Elphaba was stopped yet again, by the two favorite teachers.
Crope, and Tibbett, the infamous and devious theatre teachers burst through the room.
"Elphaba Thropp! You sly dog... Have you even seen the video going around?" Crope yelled. He then pulled out his phone, and showed the video of Glinda and Elphaba after the lunch break.
Glinda:"E-Ehmm.. Sure. Tonight?
Elphaba:"Yeah, tonight."
The pause of silence that came when both of them turned around, and faces turned to horror.
Elphaba:"So tonight then, okay... Bye Glinda!-"
The distant sound of footsteps rushing away.
Elphaba just sat at her chair, silent.
"Oh yeah, she's definitely been effected by the actual horrible feelings of caring, (Or more) she has caught, oh Elphaba... I'm so proud of you, my child." Tibbett said, putting a hand on his chest, wiping away a fake tear. He then realized Fiyero was present in the room, and practically sprinted toward him, even though they were literally two feet away from each other.
"Oh, Fifi! Where have YOU been! we missed you." Tibbett said, hugging Fiyero, and putting his head in Fiyero's chest.
"Oh yess... Our savior," Crope continued, walking over and giving Fiyero a fist bump.
"Why must this be... in my classroom...?" Elphaba muttered, rubbing her temples and getting up to separate them.
"Fae, let them be. I haven't been able to see them in like- four days. I missed them as well." Fiyero replied.
"Fine.. wait. Is it lunch break?" Elphaba said.
"Uh, DUH. Why else are we here?" Crope said, and smirking.
Elphaba immediately grabbed her lunch bag and started ruffling through it. She had been looking forward to eating the fried rice she packed. (It tasted phenomenal) And started eating it.
"Damn girl, what the hell are you spiking that fried rice with for you to eat it that fast." Crope blurted, Smirking.
"Shut up." Elphaba said in a muffled voice.
Glinda was talking to Boq in the band room, her feet on one of the music stands, even though he had told her to not do that multiple times.
"Yeah, that's the worst student i have, he fucking sucked." Boq stated, sighing and eating more of his sad looking ham and cheese sandwich. Glinda started laughing pretty hard, his story sounded genuinely traumatized by that instance.
"Oh yeah, that sounds horrible, Boq." Glinda said, laughing hard.
"Oh, lunch is over in a few minutes, you should go before the bell rings and people see you sprinting in the halls." Boq said, and handed Glinda her sketchbook she put on the whiteboard.
"Mhm, yup. Okay." Glinda said, smiled, and grabbed her sketchbook before rushing off. She was kind of... Off today, and everyone probably knew it was because of this:
Elphaba wasn't talking to her at all today, and Glinda was sad about it.
