Chapter 3
“Ok OK! Stop! Stop! STOP! I don't need to see that! I believe you!" Kara cried out dramatically as she hid her eyes in Lena's shoulder. Lena put an arm around Kara and cradled the back of her head into her shoulder. Amused at her charismatic friend. Kara was undeniable adorable. Essentially the human equivalent of a golden retriever puppy.
Alex heard the last part of Kara's protest. The first part was lost in the whirling of her head as Maggie kissed her. She felt Maggie's fingers lightly cradled her jaw and Alex felt warmth flood her. It was her second time kissing Maggie. The first time Alex had kissed Maggie she'd felt a burst of happiness and pleasure followed by the crushing disappointment of rejection. She'd felt embarrassed, foolish, stupid, and most of all just sad. Sad her first real crush, the first crush she understood, her first real crush on women, was rejected after having the first kiss. The first kiss she'd ever really enjoyed. She cried into Kara's arms for what felt like hours. And then she cried a few more times into a glass of whiskey. But Alex had pushed through the pain. She picked herself up, dusted herself off, and started anew. She and Maggie even salvaged a friendship. A friendship that blossomed and grew until Maggie was basically her best friend. Their friendship was only possible because Alex had forced her feelings down. Buried then deep and forgotten where. But now. As he lips pressed it Maggie's and Maggie's hand cradled her jaw Alex was beginning to remember.
Alex pulled back. Remembering that the lips she was tasting were not the lips of her girlfriend. But the lips of a friend doing her a favor. A friend she shouldn’t have feeling for.
"Kara. Kara you can look now." Lena said in Kara's ear. Kara peaked her head out of Lena's shoulder and adjusted her glasses as she sat back up. Her wide eyes darting between Maggie and her sister.
"So little Danvers. Still think we're faking it?" Maggie asked Kara. An eyebrow raised in amusement as her arm moved around Alex’s neck.
"Ok. Ok. We can focus on how I was wrong. OR we can focus on the fact that MY BIG SISTER FINALLY GOT THE GIRL!!!" Kara smiled brightly before jumping up, running around the table and hugging both women. An arm going around each of them as she pulled them together. "I’m so happy for you both!" It took Maggie a moment but she relaxed into the hug. She wasn't used to much physically contact but is she was going to be around Kara she'd figure she should get used to hugs. They were actually kind of nice anyway.
As soon as Kara was back around the table and in her seat she started teasing them. "Alex and Maggie sitting in a….”
“You wanta be like that Kara?” Maggie smirked. Kara was undeterred.
“….sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N...."
Kara's teasing stopped when Maggie turned to Alex and leaned in for another kiss. Their lips only brushing lightly before Kara started protesting.
”ok! OK! Stop! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Kara shielded her eyes again.
"Didn't think that through did you Kara?" Lena chuckled. Delighted in the light teasing nature of the present atmosphere. Lena had never had many experiences like this. Where friends and family could tease and joke with another so easily. Where affection was so open and love given so freely.
"Well Kara was never the smart one in the family." Alex said as she sent a teasing grin at her sister. In the Luthor household a remark like that would be met with an angry insult. But Lena found that Kara just laughed at her own expense before teasing her sister with an affectionate smile on her face.
"Hey! Who made an 'A' in Mrs. Turners 9th grade Science class? And who made a B+?" Kara countered. Alex’s eyes closed and clapped her hands as she laughed at the memory.
"Oh. Mrs. Turner! First of all that women had it out for me. Ever since I corrected her mistake on the nature of Isotopes she hated me." Alex said.
"Oh my god! You were that girl that corrected her teacher in class weren't you!" Maggie laughed. Her eyes crinkling as she looked at Alex. What a nerd.
"She totally was! She correctly teachers all the time! She was that girl!" Kara confirmed as she giggled hysterically.
"I can't believe I'm actually dating that girl!" Maggie laughed. “I need better taste.” She joked as her hand found Alex's and she intertwined their fingers. Maggie liked that girl a lot actually. The conversation stopped when the waiter came back and took there order. Alex just ordered an item she could pronounce and she thought had chicken in it. Maggie got the filet and Lena ordered for herself and Kara.
“Hey! There is nothing wrong with correcting someone who is wrong. Mrs. Turner was a nice women but she didn’t know shit about science.” Alex said. Her thumb unconsciously moving over Maggie's hand.
“You’re such a nerd.” Maggie said. Her voice filled with affection. Kara couldn't help smiling at Maggie comment and obvious affection for Alex. Her big sister found herself a keeper.
“You love it.” Alex replied. Her eyes only on Maggie.
“Yeah, I kind of do.” Maggie felt it time for another fake kiss so she leaned in and gently kissed Alex’s lips. For the show of it of course.
“Ok. Nope. I love you both but no!” Kara cried again. Alex laughed and turned to Lena.
"So Lena. What kind of student were you in school? The teacher’s pet? Class clown?" Alex asked. Wanting to know more about her sister’s friend/girlfriend.
"Well I went to boarding school. Catholic school actually. I imagine it was a bit different than most schools." Lana said. Not accustom to talking about herself so personally. No one usually cared how she was. Just how her business or family was.
"That's not a real answer. Come on Lena." Kara said. Her puppy dog eyes in full effect. Lena gave in.
"To be honest those weren't my best days. I was a bit rebellious. I didn’t see my family much and didn’t get along when we did. I did well in class but Girls were more important to me than school." Lena said. Lena spent most of her boarding school days flirting and hooking up. She rarely saw her family and friends seemed too intimate so she spent her days chasing girls.
"Are you still chasing girls?" Alex asked. Her tone made the meaning of her question obvious. Alex believed Lena to be dating her sister and even if it was a secret, she didn't want Lena running around on her sister.
"No. I'm one women type of girl now." Lena said. Her eyes drifting to Kara as she did so.
"So if you and little Danvers aren't together, what is your type of women?" Maggie asked.
"The unattainable type." Lena replied.
"And who would that be?" Kara asked. A feeling similar to anxiety filled her. Who could Lena have feelings for?
"Lately I’ve had an affection for Supergirl." Lena confessed. Kara froze and Alex felt confusion flood her.
"Supergirl?" Maggie asked.
"Yes. Supergirl. I've met her a few times. She saved my life. She's....she's just so good. Good and pure and beautiful. She's so beautiful. Plus she's a superhero so it'll never happen." Lena replied. Lena wasn't used to sharing with others. She'd never talked about her feelings with mother or Lex. They only cared for the next meeting or event or scheme. But now that she was into her third glass of wine and enjoying the intimacy of this conversation, she felt like sharing. Because she knew these girls would actually care. And they wouldn't use her feelings against her.
"You know Alex here knows Supergirl. Their like best friends. She could hook you up girl." Maggie said to Lena.
"I'm aware of the Danver's sister’s relationship with Supergirl. I just hope they don't share everything with her." Lena said. Her eyes on the sisters.
Alex didn't really understand what was happening. Maybe Lena was just faking an interest in Supergirl to throw Alex off the trail of Kara and Lena dating? Supergirl was basically unattainable so she's the perfect choice. Maybe Lena was just messing with her? Looking at Kara, Alex saw a discomfort on her face. An awkwardness Kara didn't usually have. No, Kara hadn't told Lena she was Supergirl. Which meant Kara was keeping secrets from her girlfriend. Which couldn’t end well.
"I promise I won't tell her anything. Lena. Promise." Alex responded. Still uncertain of the whole situation.
"Thank you Alex. And Kara?" Lena asked? Her eyes studying Kara.
"Absolutely! I will. I mean won’t. I…I won't tell….her." Kara replied. Her eyes looking on the table. Anywhere but Lena. Knowing that Lena had feelings for Supergirl shocked her. Lena was always so…. hard to read. And now Kara felt….nervous. A familiar fluttering in her stomach she sometimes got when looking at Lena. Kara pushed it down. Not ready to recognize the feeling.
