Chapter 4
"I still feel as if I'm putting you out Kara. I'm sure I can just get a hotel or something." Lena said. Lena was feeling uncharacteristically nervous as she and Kara got closer and closer to Kara's childhood home. It was dawning on her that she was about to spend a large amount of time with Kara and Kara’s family in another person’s home. Something she'd never done before as a Luthor.
"Seriously Lena you'll offend Eliza if you do that. And besides it'll be fun! You can have the guest room or we can do like a sleep-over slumber –party thing and you can stay with me." Kara replied as she turned onto a familiar dirt road.
"I've never had a sleep over." Lena replied. More to herself than Kara.
"You've never had a sleep over? Like at all?" Kara questioned.
"I was always at boarding school and mother never wanted me going home with another family person’s family. I have stayed the night with other girls but that wasn't as innocent as a sleep over." Lena replied. Lena didn’t qualify hook ups in dorm rooms as sleep-overs.
"Ok. Executive decision time. You and I are doing the sleep over thing. We're gonna watch a Disney movie in my room, eat too much popcorn, bug my big sister, and maybe even braid each other's hair. I haven't decided yet." Kara said.
"Oh Kara that's not necessary. I don't want to put you out." Lena insisted. Feeling a bit vulnerable that Kara new something so personal about her childhood and was now trying to give the experience. Kara was a special person.
"Look Lena. I didn't have the best time as a kid either. I didn't have many friends and I've had 2 sleep overs in my life. And I'd love to have another. Why don’t you stay in the guest room tonight and one night well plan a sleep-over in my room. We’ll do it Christmas Eve!" Kara said excitedly.
"Sounds great. We can watch that Christmas movie you keep telling me about.” Lena said.
“Yes! Love actually! You’ll love it! I promise.”
“Wonderful. But wait, Kara, you didn't have many friends? That doesn't seem possible." Lena questioned. Certain that the beautiful blonde had always been adored by all who met her.
"No one wanted to be friends with the weird adopted girl." Kara replied. It was the truth. Kara has always been classified as the weird kid in school.
"You were adopted?" Lena asked.
"Oh...yeah. My …a….my real parents died when I was around 12 and I was adopted by the Danvers. But ....I....I don't really talk about it." Kara answered before letting her voice trail off and silence permeate. Lena hadn't known that Kara was like her. Adopted after losing her family young. The revelation made Kara seem all the more special. Kara had been dealt a shitty card. One of the shity-est cards you can get in life, but Kara was the kindest most genuine person Lena had ever met. Looking over at Kara now, her profile framed in the soft glow of the evening, Lena thought her one of the most beautiful too.
"Ok. Where here." Kara said quietly as she pulled up in a gravel drive way. Kara moved to open her door but Lena stopped her but putting a hand on her arm. Kara met her eyes and Lena felt her body react to the intensity behind Kara’s gaze.
"You'll have to teach me."
"What?" Kara asked. Her eyes still on Lena.
"The sleep over. You'll have to teach me." Lena repeated. Kara started back at her for a moment. Her eyes searching Lena's face before her lips curled upward for a smile.
"Of course! It'll be awesome! I promise!" Kara said as she reached over the console and hugged her. A feeling that wasn’t completely platonic filled Lena.

"Ok. We'll be there in about 10 minutes. Love you. Bye." Alex hung up her phone. Alex and Maggie were driving to Alex’s childhood home. It was about 4 hours outside National City and they had left late. It was around 11 PM now.
"Lena and Kara arrived about an hour ago. Mom totally agrees that they are dating by the way." Alex said to Maggie.
"It'd be tragic if they weren't dating." Maggie laughed. Kara and Lena's chemistry was obvious to anyway watching. The constant touches and secret smiles contested that there were feelings beyond simple friendship. Maggie just wasn't sure either of them were fully aware of those feelings.
"Speaking of dating. You ready to meet my mom as my girlfriend?" Alex asked. Truthfully Alex was the nervous one but didn’t want Maggie to know.
"Come on Danvers, parents love me." Maggie said. When Alex snorted at the comment Maggie continued, "I can be quite charming you know.”
"This coming from the women who insulted me at our first meeting by saying I was bad agent because I watched bad movies at Quantico." Alex said.
Maggie laughed. "To be fair Danvers that was because you were acting all agent badass and I thought it was hot but didn't like that I thought it was hot. So I acted extra tough"
"You thought I was hot?"
"You are hot Danvers. I'm lucky. I've got hot a girlfriend." Maggie said a-matter-a-factly. Alex felt her face go little red. Maggie thought her attractive. Which meant that Maggie’s rejection of her advances was based in personality and not looks. Alex had thought she had gotten over that heartbreak from so long ago. But it seemed to be creeping back in lately.
"Is that it?" Maggie asked as she sat up straighter in her seat. They were coming up on Alex's house and could see the lights even though it was late and dark.
"Yep. Here we are." Alex parked the car next to Kara's and grabbing the bags from the back. Taking one in each hand she headed toward the porch.
"Hey, let me carry that." Maggie said as she grabbed both suitcases from Alex.
"I can carry something, Maggie."
"Let me play the chivalrous girlfriend, Danvers." Maggie said with a wink. Alex rolled her eyes but followed Maggie up. The door opened just as they got to it.
"Alex! Maggie!" Kara said as she ran out of the door. Eliza right behind her.
"Oh Alex, my darling girl how are you?" Eliza said as she hugged her oldest daughter.
When she was released Alex said, "I'm good mom. Let me introduce you to...."
"Maggie! It's so nice to finally meet you!" Eliza said as she hugged Maggie. "Look at you, you’re so pretty. Alex did so good." Eliza continued.
"Ok, so Mom...." Alex started but was interrupted again.
"Alex how dare you make your beautiful girlfriend carry your suitcases. That's not very polite. Maggie you come with me and I'll show you to Alex's room." Eliza took Maggie arm and pulled her inside. Leaving Alex to scramble with the bags and follow after them. Thankfully Kara took one of them.
"Mom. Mom!" Alex said as she followed them inside. "Mom, I thought I told you Maggie would be fine in the guest room." Alex said.
"It's 2016 Alex and I'm not so delusional to think my daughter and her beautiful girlfriend don't share a bed every now and then. Besides Lena has the guest room." Eliza said.
Alex started to say something else but Maggie shot her a look. A look that clearly meant for Alex to drop the issue or it would get weird. They soon arrived at Alex's room. Thankfully Alex's room had been cleaned of all her punk rock and science posters. The only alarming thing Alex saw was the full bed in the middle of the room. A bed she'd be sharing with Maggie for the next few days.
"Ok, so Maggie and Alex I know it's late so you probably want to get to bed. Lena is in the shower right now so wait until she finishes. Alex you guys can use the hall bathroom. Kara and Lena are gonna use the guest bathroom by her room." Eliza said.
"Ok thanks Mom."
"Thank you so much for having me Ms. Danvers. I'm so excited to spend to holidays here." Maggie said with a dimpled smile. Alex hated those damn dimples and how cute they looked all the time.
"Please call me Eliza my dear. And it's so great to have you here Maggie. I was so happy when Alex admitting you two were together. She talked about you way too much for you to be just friends. I know you must make my daughter so happy." Eliza said before hugging Maggie again. Alex winced inwardly and looked at the floor.
"Well she makes me happy too." Maggie said. Her hand found Alex's and smiled sweetly when Alex looked up to meet her eyes. Alex found herself smiling back. Eliza studied the obvious adoration between Maggie and her daughter and felt elated her daughter had finally found someone to love her as she deserved.
"Ok, well it's almost 11:30 so I'm going to head to bed and let you guys get settled in. I’ll see you both in the morning." Eliza said before she and Kara left the room. Leaving the Alex and Maggie alone. A silence permeated as the two women sat staring at the one bed. Both unsure of the others feelings and limitations.
"I can sleep on the floor." Alex said.
"It's your house Alex. I can sleep on the floor."
"No way in hell am I letting a guest sleep on the floor." Alex said bluntly.
"No way in hell am I letting my host sleep on the floor." Maggie replied. Her hands on her hips as she challenged Alex. Reminding Alex of the first time they'd met. Alex never thought that cocky cop would become one of the most important people in her life.
"Well I guess we'll have to share." Alex said. Realizing there was no use in arguing with someone almost as stubborn as herself. She could do this. Share a bed…share a bed platonically with a women she had…once had feelings for. She was Alex fucking Danvers. Certified Badass. She could do this.
“Fair warning, Danvers. I kick.” Maggie grinned as she opened her suitcase. Alex saw her pull out boxer shorts and a T-shirt. “I’m gonna shower in the morning. Where’s the bathroom so I can change and brush my teeth?” Maggie asked.
“First door on the left.” Alex said. Maggie left the room and Alex quickly pulled out her pajamas and slipped them on. A long sleeve T-shirt and pajama pants. Nowhere near as exciting as Maggie’s boxer shorts and T. A few minutes later Maggie came back inside and Alex tried not to look at her legs as she left for the bathroom. She washed her face, brushed her teeth, and she might have put on some flowery smelling lotion her mom kept there.
Returning to her room she found Maggie on the edge of the bed. Sitting Indian style as she looked at her phone.
“So what side you want, Danvers?” Maggie asked.
“I…umm…left is fine.”
“That means I get the right. Please don’t tell me you snore.” Maggie asked. Hoping she didn’t seem as nervous as she was. Sharing a bed with a women she found attractive, a women she liked, was usually not strictly platonic. But this, this right now, was platonic, because she was doing Alex a favor and she was the one that said “No” to Alex all the time ago.
“Don’t worry. I don’t snore.” Alex replied as she slipped under the covers. Maggie slipping in right next to her. She could feel Alex’s body heat. “Goodnight, Maggie.” Alex said as she turned off the light.
“Night. Alex.” Maggie replied.
Both women stayed wide awake for long time. Their bodies stiff and taught as to not accidentally invade the other’s space. It was Maggie who fell asleep first. Alex noticed her breathing becoming regular and her body relax. Maggie curled onto her side and faced Alex. As if she was unconsciously burrowing further into the warmth of Alex’s body heat. Soon she was curled into Alex’s side. Her head between Alex’s shoulder and head. Soon Alex relaxed a swell. Allowing Maggie’s warmth to seep through her as she fell asleep. Her head gently resting on Maggie’s.
