Chapter 12
When the ancient Shade sweeps his sword in an arc, Link dodges and weaves around it like the natural he is. His movements disturb the soft mist swirling around the both of them. The only sign of movement within the endless void in which they fought.
Again, the old Shade says to him. Parry. Dodge. Sidestep. Before long the boy works his way into the soldier’s guard. There’s resolve and purpose in Link’s sharp features. A youth determined to save not only himself, but the land from the darkness that threatened it.
While the youth backs away, the Shade stills for a split second. There’s a slight twinge in the Shade’s chest. An echo of sadness at being forgotten for all the things he did. Not much more than that though. There’s not enough humanity left in him to drudge up more emotion, but occasionally the Shade’s tattered soul remembers what it was like to be the hero.
