Chapter 13
Link sees her at Hyrule market. At least, Link thinks it’s her this time. Link is not entirely sure if it’s Sheik or Zelda she's looking at.
It seems, at least for now, she’s choosing to be Sheik through and through.
Dressed in leggings and a tunic, they crowd know him only as a simple page boy. His blonde hair is mussed and his eyes are bright. She watches as the boy circles around the fountain, arms raised, laughing at his rare chance at freedom. Sheik revels in his anonymity—no one recognises the heir to the throne—and it gives him a brief respite from the pomp and ceremony of castle life.
This is good, she supposes. Link can talk to Zelda this time, without needing to dodge the sweaty clutches of the castle guards. It means she doesn’t need to be booted from the castle yet again.
As if sensing he is being watched, the boy stops and looks directly at her. His arms fall as a flicker of recognition flashes across red eyes. It’s faint, as though the boy is uncertain of the feeling, but Sheik definitely knows Link. Somehow.
He takes one step towards her. Then another. And another.
Link turns and walks away.
