Chapter 4
"I can't go back there," Garnet said as Jasper sat down next to her on the log.
"Why not?" Jasper questioned, their gazes locked on the expansive ocean before them.
"Because I was never 'pose be born." When Jasper opened her mouth to respond, Garnet stopped her with a raised hand. "Hear me out, Sapphire is the granddaughter of the chief foreseer and Ruby is the granddaughter of the former chief that got exiled for starting an unnecessary and bloody war that killed most of the tribe. Those that supported Ruby's grandfather followed him and started their own tribe. Ruby's tribe is not welcomed there, they won't accept me," Garnet finished and sighed sadly.
"But that's Sapphire's tribe, our tribe," Jasper's voice rose slightly at the unfairness of the situation.
For the past two years she and Garnet have been meeting up at the beach, either training or just talking. Garnet never talked much about her family but her features were similar to those of the tribe's, that why I throw her off that she's not with the tribe. And while Jasper wasn't from the tribe originally, they took her in when she was but an infant. They trained her to be a warrior, one of the best, even at her young age.
Garnet nodded her head. "I know. I've given the same argument to her plenty of times. But she can not go back. If she does and if she bring either Ruby, myself or even both of us, they will kill all of us."
Jasper clenched her fists at the thought. "So, what about Ruby's tribe, can y'all go there?"
Garnet shook her head no. "Same thing. The moment they find out who my parents are, they will kill us all."
"So, y'all have nowhere to go then?"
"No .. but I've seen in my dreams of another tribe not connected to either of my moms' tribes," Garnet said after a moment.
Jasper goes quiet. Of the things Jasper know little about, Garnet's family and her dreaming ability are at the top of the list. Though Garnet is her best friend and she wanted to follow Garnet, she couldn't. Her home is with the tribe.
