Chapter 5

"Where are we going Sapph?" Ruby questioned as she and Sapphire walked hand in hand toward the beach and their daughter, Garnet.

"Somewhere, just not here," Sapphire replied as they inched closer to Garnet.

"She's with that girl again." Ruby frowned at the sight of Garnet and Jasper's backs sitting on a log. Ruby didn't trust Jasper, she may have kept them secret from Sapphire's tribe, but who's to say her allegiance won't change.

"They've bonded. They may not know it yet, but they have and it's a strong bond."

Ruby's thoughts and feelings were cut short as she took in her wife's words. She sighed. If anyone can tell when it comes to love, it's her Sapphy. She and Sapphire were not supposed to be together, not with their histories, but fate is a hinky thing.

"Garnet?" Sapphire questioned, a safe distance away from the two but still within earshot.

Garnet turned to face her mothers. "Moms, I've seen a place where I think we can go."

Sapphire tightened her grip on Ruby's hand, who looked at her with concern before she addressed their daughter.

"Are you sure?" Ruby questioned after a moment.

Garnet shifted her eyes to look at Jasper before she turned her attention back to her mothers. "Not positive, but I saw them in my dreams; a large woman with lots of curly pink hair, a thin, strawberry blonde woman; good with swords and a short, long, purple haired girl."

Garnet looked back at Jasper, was she really prepared to leave her? "We can't go anywhere else. My dreams never showed that they harmed us."

"She's right, they don't harm us," Sapphire broke the silence.

Ruby and Jasper turned to look at Sapphire. "Who are they?" both questioned.

"They're a free tribe. I've had a few encounters with the pink haired one, Rose. It's said that she has healing powers and it is true for she healed many of our wounded brethren. She doesn't stay in one place for too long though."

"They weren't that far in my dreams. Maybe a three days walk," Garnet added.

Ruby and Sapphire looked at each other. They really had no choice; can't neither of them bring their family back to their tribes without risking death to them. It's the best shot of survival that they got.

"Very well," Sapphire started.

"I guess we have no choice," Ruby finished.

"Are you coming?" Garnet turned her attention to Jasper.

Jasper grabbed Garnet's hand, interlocked their fingers and sighed. Her gaze darted to their hands before she looked up at Garnet. "I wish I could."

Garnet nodded her head but didn't speak. She knew Jasper couldn't leave, she just had to ask.

Both turned to watch Ruby and Sapphire who turned and walked away.

"I guess this is bye then." Garnet frowned and unlocked her finger from Jasper's to follow after her mothers.

Jasper quickly grabbed Garnet's wrist and pulled her back to her, Garnet's waist wrapped by one of Jasper's arms and Garnet's arms between them.

"I'll find you." Jasper locked eyes with Garnet before she covered Garnet's mouth with her own.

It's sad that their first kiss might possibly be their last.

Garnet moved her lips against Jasper's before the latter pulled away.

"Please do." The two separate completely and Garnet looked back at Jasper before she caught up to her mothers.
