How to Deal With Assholes 101

The weekend went by rather uneventfully. I spent most of it learning everyone's likes and dislikes, and playing with the cats. The house was home to three of the furballs, and each had their own distinct personality. The oldest was Gandolf, a 10 year old grey Maine Coon who was rather quiet but absolutely loved to cuddle. He slept in my room the first night I was there, and I woke up to him purring as he curled up under my arm the next morning. The second oldest was a 7 year old Japanese bobtail named Clutz- for obvious reasons- that was mostly white with large patches of brown and black on his back, legs, and stomach. He was constantly being clumsy and getting stuck in things, but he was rather sweet. The youngest -and only girl- was a large, black Bombay cat named Racer. The 6 year old car was arguably the fastest (hence her name) and most territorial of the 3 felines and was also the only one with green eyes. Gandolf and Clutz shared the same shade of bright yellow eyes; an even mix between canary and honey yellow.

The first morning at the house was probably the strangest morning I've ever experienced. I was walking down the stairs, having a casual conversation with Eloise on why instant ramen was, in fact, a substantial breakfast, when I walked into Aizawa and Mic making what seemed to be an aggressive amount of coffee for the 2 of them. The coffee pot was refilling itself with the morning beverage, and the adults seemed to be well past their first cups.

"Rough night?" I asked, eyebrows knitting together in concern. I recalled from my intense manga/anime binge of My Hero that Aizawa sometimes had really late nights, either from late night hero calls or from grading papers. The older males regarded me before Aizawa took another long gulp of his coffee. The bags under his eyes were dark enough to almost hide the scar that made its home under his right eye.

"Hero work." Mic responded. "We both got called late last night for a villain attack on a semi transporting goods out of the city." I nodded, moving to grab a mug and pour myself a cup of coffee. A soft 'mrrow' sounded from behind me, and Gandolf kept onto the counter, rubbing his head on my hand as I mixed a large amount of sugar into my mug. He wandered over to the edge of the counter and hopped on top of the fridge, watching the kitchen from above. The patter of feet was heard upstairs, signalling that Shinsou was awake. He came down, greeting everyone 'good morning' before making himself a cup of coffee as well.

After drinking his fill, Aizawa moved to the couch, face planted onto the cushions, and promptly began snoring. I didn't question it, and played with the cats for the rest of the morning. The legal documents came later that day, and we spent the afternoon filling them out. We sent over the necessary documents to Nezu for my enrollment and made sure that everything was filled in. Legally, I now existed in this dimension. I was officially Umiko Aizawa-Yamada, but I was enrolled as Umiko Shinsou. The alibi (which we had discussed that night) was that I was Shinsou's biological sister that had recent switched schools after an 'incedent with another student involving some acts of violence', and my parents decided to see if I could enroll in UA so Shinsou could keep in eye on me.

My emotional control was tested the following day, which, of all days, happened to be Monday. Aizawa decided to start my training as soon as possible, so Nemuri had picked me up before school ended so I could meet up with Aizawa and Shinsou in the gym. I wasn't enrolled quite yet, seeing as it took 2-3 days for the enrollment process to finish, but Nezu had said I was allowed on school grounds as long as I was with Mic, Aizawa, or Nemuri. I met up with Shinsou in the gym, thankful that Aizawa wasn't forcing us to train out in the cold, although I knew that would happen sooner or later. I pulled my blonde hair up into a high ponytail, my fingers gently grazing the undercut I had. It was getting slightly long, and I knew I would need to cut it soon.

I watched as some students began to file in and sit in the bleachers, all of them talking amongst themselves. I recognized Uraraka, waving at her when she looked at me. She smiled, walking down to the bottom of the bleachers so she could talk to me.

"Nice uniform." I said, giggling as she rolled her eyes.

"You'll be wearing this soon." She replied. She wasn't wrong, seeing as I would get one as soon as the enrollment process was done. I also didn't have a gym uniform like the one Shinsou was wearing, but I would get that when I got my normal uniform. I had pulled on some dark blue athletic leggings and a black shirt before leaving the house, my black running shoes not even fully laced when Nemuri had arrived. Glancing around, she looked back at me and lowered her voice. "What's the alibi?"

I filled her in, making sure she knew the details before returning to a more normal topic of conversation.

"Why are all of you here?" I asked. I didn't take the gym to be a popular hangout spot, but it was also starting to get cold, which meant less people hanging out outside.

"I was talking with Shinsou during lunch today and he told me you were doing some hero training with him. He filled me in on what happened at the mall." She responded, turning to look at the other students on the bleachers. "Some people overheard and wanted to see this for themselves. Something about 'sizing up the competition'."

I recognized most of the students, but I was still surprised that any of them showed up. All in all, there was Uraraka, Mina, Iida, Midoriya, Bakugou, Mineta (I gagged a little when I spotted him), Kirishima, Kaminari (Who seemed to be staring at Shinso a lot), and Monoma (Why he was there, I had no idea). The rest of the students were from 1-B and 1-C, so I didn't remember their names or quirks. I was interrupted when someone cleared their throat. I turned around to find Aizawa with a cart full of water buckets. He pushed the cart to the side, shoving it against the bleachers so it was out of the way. He waved me over, his tired eyes locking onto my face.

"I'm going to have you do some basic movements with the water." He said, guiding me to where he wanted me to stand. "We already know that you can only manipulate water when there is water to manipulate. If the area is to dry, you can't use you're quirk."

I nodded. We had tried using my quirk back at the house, but since Aizawa didn't want me to burst his pipes, we practiced outside. The air was dry, and I couldn't even get a droplet of water to form. Once we moved inside - and turned on a faucet so I wouldn't burst a pipe- I was able to make a small sphere. That, however, seemed to be the extent of my quirk so far. Shinsou moved to the edge of the bleachers, careful to stay away from the buckets in case I accidentally broke one and got him soaking wet. I waited for Aizawa's next instructions, watching out of the corner of my eye as he moved behind me.

"You're going to make a sphere of water, and then you're going to elongate it. Move it around a little bit before turning it back into a sphere. Do you understand?" Again, I nodded. "Alright. You may begin."

I concentrated, clearing my head and forcing myself to think of moving the water. I raised my arms outwards, attempting to coax the water towards my hands and into a ball. At home, it had been easy, I just thought of a water sphere and forced the water to move, moving parts of my body in order to better move the water. But now, it felt like someone had erected a dam in my brain, and I couldn't get even a tiny water droplet to rise out of the buckets. I started concentrating harder, hoping to break the mental dam and get the water to move, but I only succeeded in making the buckets shake. I dropped my arms and sighed in defeat.

"I can't do it." I grumbled, turning towards Aizawa. "Somethings blocking my quirk." I looked towards the ground, partially angry with myself for not being able to control my quirk. I felt something large on my head, and I heard a gasp from the others in the room. I looked up to find that Aizawa had moved towards me and placed his hand on my head, much like he had done the first day I was here, sitting in Uraraka's room and wondering what I was going to do next in this new dimension. Everyone seemed shocked that Aizawa was showing someone this level of affection during training, seeing as he was normally someone who watched and criticed. I stole a quick glance at Shinsou, and he seemed to be the only one not shocked by what was happening. From what I saw, even Monoma was shocked.

"You can do it. You just have to do the same thing you did at the mall. Clear your head, let everything go, and focus." He murmured, gently parting my head before moving back. "Try again. Empty your head and focus.

I turned back around and attempted to move the water for a second time. The buckets shook violently before stopping again. I groaned loudly, now much angrier than I was before. I heard quiet muttering coming from the bleachers, more than likely about my failed attempts at using my quirk. I thought nothing of it until a voice spoke up.

"Why even bother at this point?" A male said. The asshole even had the audacity to sound smug, further pissing me off. "Even could do better than that, and it's not even my quirk. She's just some lousy excuse for a wannabe hero, and she can't even use her quirk right."

This fucker's DEAD!

Oh shit..., Eloise sounded scared.

I whipped around, anger and fury making my black eyes just that much more terrifying and unnerving.

"WHAT DID YOU SAY YOU FUCKING EXTRA?!" I yelled. I was seething with rage at this point. Monoma had been the one to speak up, and it made me hate the asshat much more than I already I did. Bakugou seemed both proud and shocked, seeing as I had called someone an 'extra' and that I was about to lose my shit on Monoma. Shinsou moved forward to block my view of Monoma and hopefully calm me down before Aizawa held his hand up. He walked over to his son, speaking quietly so few people could hear.

"This is like what happened at the mall, right?" He asked Shinsou, who nodded in response. "Then let her at him. This might break the mental block she has." Shinsou sighed, stepping out of the way with his dad. Monoma decided he wasn't done with hurling insults, moving to the bottom of the bleachers and onto the gym floor.

"It's a shame that someone who was spoken so highly of in regards to their quirk can't seem to use it properly." He smirked, moving closer to me. I quickly wondered why he was walking towards me when I remembered a vital price of information about him.

He needs to come into physical contact with me in order to copy my quirk! I remembered, quickly taking a step back.

Well you better think of something quick before he copies it. Eloise said. Monoma continued walking towards me, and I continued stepping backwards, trying to increase the distance between myself and him.

"Why don't I show you what a real hero-in-training could do with your quirk." He said darkly, raising his hand to touch my shoulder. He had gotten much closer than I thought. I couldn't let him copy my quirk, and the fact that he wanted to one-up me caused the rage to boil over. I felt the same snapping feeling I had back in the mall, and I felt the mental block crumble. I quickly moved backwards and raised my hands, willing the water to create a wall between the 2 of us. Everyone except Shinsou and Aizawa gasped. Shinsou was grinning like a madman, and Aizawa had that glint in his eyes. Not a murderous glint, but one of pride. I even saw a familiar blonde hairdo on the bleachers, watching along with the rest of the students. Mic looked like a mix between proud and surprised.

Wonder when he got here, Eloise commented. I chose to ignore her for the time being.

"What the Hel-" Monoma started to speak, but I pushed to water wall back, knocking him down. Splitting the wall in half, I forced the water into 2 separate spheres above my outstretched hands.

"You were saying?" I joked, smirking as Monoma hurriedly picked himself up off the ground and got into a fighter's stance, his hands in fists in front of him. I laughed, pushing out my right hand and letting the water grab his legs. I twisted my right hand upwards, flipping Monoma upside down. The others cheered in response, happy to watch Monoma get his ass handed to him. I let the water holding Monoma's legs connect with one of the metal beams that criss-crossed the ceiling, turning it into ice to let him hang there. With the other sphere, I made a hoop around his head over his mouth, careful not to cover his nose. I froze the water there as well, effectively shutting him up.

More cheers erupted from the rest of the students, and Shinsou ran up to give me a hug.

"That was fucking awesome." He whispered to me, making me smile slightly.

"Thanks, Shinsou." I replied.

"Just call me Hitoshi, Umi. It's what siblings do." I smiled more, happy to have someone who care d enough about me to call me their sibling. I had to blink rapidly to keep myself from crying.

"If you say so." We parted, and Aizawa came to pat me on the back.

"As much as I love to see people get what they deserve, I think you need to let him down." He murmured. I nodded, raising my hand and willing the water to unfreeze. Monoma wasn't that far off the ground, and he dropped to the floor with a small thump as I moved the water back into the buckets. Aizawa helped him up and started to scold him. I quickly made my way over to the others. The 1-B and 1-C students looked at me angrily and started to leave, but I paid little attention to them. Uraraka and the rest of the 1-A students that were there ran down the bleachers.

"That was slightly uncalled for. Even though he insulted you, you don't get to string him up like dead meat." Iida said, waving his arms around while he went on about how 'unheroic' my actions were. Bakugou smilied, which I found kinda strange, and patted me hard on the back.

"I like this one!" He said. "Let's hope they let you transfer into the hero course. We could use someone like you around. Someone who doesn't take shit from people." Midoriya came up to me next, his eyes wide with wonder. I could see the gears in his brain working.

"How do you do that? Is there anything you can't minipulate?" He asked. He opened his mouth to say more, but quickly shut it. "Actually, we should exchange numbers, then I could ask you questions after you're done with training." I smiled, gladly accepting to exchange numbers with everyone. Aizawa let me watch the rest of the training, seemingly satisfied with my actions for the day. Monoma had left with the rest of his friends after a brief scolding from Aizawa. I ended up talking with most of the others (Iida had left at some point and Mic stayed near the back of the bleachers) while Hitoshi trained. Mineta was effectively frozen to a far wall after he made a rather perverted comment, and I only unfroze him before I left. It was the first time anyone other than Aizawa and Mic had watched Hitoshi train, and the other students seemed to be in awe of his agility and versatility.

By the end of the training session, 'Toshi and I had successfully become friends with Mina, Midoriya, Bakugou, Kirishima, Kaminari, and Uraraka (Shinso had said he didn't 'do friends' at first, but Kaminari's puppy dog eyes got him to cave). We agreed to make a group chat. With that, Shinso, Aizawa, Mic and I left the gym. As we were walking, I asked Aizawa how getting transferred into the hero course worked.

"There will be a joint-training session the week before Christmas break. Anyone who is eligible to participate gets to train with the 1-A students. Anyone who shows potential to do well in the course gets considered to join the class." Aizawa responded as he fished his keys from his pocket, unlocking the car as we entered the parking lot. "But just because you're eligible to join the joint-training session, doesn't mean that you automatically get considered for a spot in the hero course."

"And there's only 2 spots left in the hero course, so it'll be a huge competition between students for a spot." Mic piped up as we got in the car. 'Toshi and I looked at each other in the backseat. I did the math real quick: My birthday was the 1st of November (which was a Friday this year) and it was now Monday, November 4th. The Joint-training would be on Monday, December 16th, exactly 1 week before Christmas break started on Monday the 23rd. We had just over a month to train before the training session, and Shinso and I wanted the spots in 1-A.

"Looks like we'll be training extra hard then." I said, bringing my water bottle to my mouth and taking a drink.

"Do you really think that we'll be ready in a little over a month? Especially considering the fact that you only now can control your quirk?" Hitoshi asked. I smirked, pulling the bottle away from my lips and created a small ball of water, letting it float just above my palm.

"We have some great teachers and friends that can help us train. And we can always practice at home, too." I responded. "I like our odds. I know we'll win those spots and we'll become great heroes."

Hitoshi smiled back, settling back in his seat.

Ready to work your ass off for the next month and a half?

Let the games begin, fuckers.
