Memories of a monster
It was a bright sunny day. The cicadas and birds were singing as the sound of children screaming and laughing filled the warm summer air. A small elementary school just outside of East Mustafu was out for recess. It was all happy and joyful, kids were playing and the teachers got a small break from the madness. Well… for the most part.
A loud snicker came from a young boy, pushing back a girl with long, chocolate hair. His friends behind them laughed as she fell onto her butt in the sandbox.
“Sashi’s quirkless~ Sashi’s quirkless~!” they chided on. She girl slowly stood up, her eyes narrowing as she stomped her foot into the sand
“I’m not! The doctor said it just hasn’t shown up yet! I’m just a late bloomer!”
The lead boy only laughed, his eyes narrowing as he took a step forward, causing the girl to flinch. “How long are you going to hold onto that lie? We’re in the 3rd grade, if you don’t have some semblance of a quirk by now, then you’ll never have one”. He scoffed, forcefully pushing her out of the sandbox.
She fell onto the pavement, scraping and cutting her elbow as she landed. A loud yelp escaped her as she felt tears well up in her eyes. She slowly looked up at the boy, seeing a smug look on his face as he looked down at her. She wasn’t quirkless… she wasn’t! She’ll get a quirk! She’ll prove him wrong! Then he’ll be the one on the ground, not her! Her face contorted into a show of rage, her eyes glowing with anger as she pushed herself up, blood dripping from her elbow, the red streak on her arm glistening in the sunlight. She let out a loud scream as she pushed herself up, stepping forward before she lunged for him, a flash of orange lighting up her hazel eyes.
KRA-BOOM
The second she lunged at him, orange electric sparks came off her before a large bolt of orange lightning shot down to the Earth, casting an orange glow over everything as the shockwave threw everyone on the playground into the air slightly. Steam and smoke bellowed out of the sandbox as loud screams reverberated from it. The other 2 boys ran out of the steam, while the other remained inside. As the steam cleared, the first boy could be seen laying in the sand. Hunched over him was a large, 4 to 5 meter tall human like thing. Brown hair flowed down over its shoulders as its teeth resembled that of a human’s only there were no gums or lips. It looked like it’s skin led directly to several lines of teeth. The tall figure had no clothes, but no signs of any features distinguishing if they were male or female. Its jaws opened, steam spilling out as a loud roar erupted from it’s jaws, blowing the boy’s hair back as his eyes filled with horror.
Several minutes later, after the boy had been safely pulled away and the giant had been cornered, it soon erupted into hot steam. As it cleared, laying on the ground was Sashi, passed out as she curled up as if nothing had happened.
A loud snapping sound filled her head as she opened her eyes, in the school nurse’s office.
“S..hi”
The snapping got louder as she looked around
‘Sa...shi”
What was going-
“Sashi!”
She quickly blinked a few times, seeing a pair of fingers snapping in front of her face. She followed the hand up the arm to the body of another brown haired girl. Her boss, Uravity. She quickly sat up, a small blush crawling up her cheeks as she rubbed the back of her head, smiling awkwardly.
“Sorry~ i just spaced out”. She let out a nervous giggle as she glanced around the room, seeing several other heroes snicker and roll their eyes at her. Uraraka dismissed it, going back to her power point she was showing them. However Sashi’s mind wandered off again. She was confused on why she was remembering what happened way back when. That was going on 14 years ago, why remember it now? All it dragged up was pain, especially remembering the looks everyone gave her after that, even through middle school. She knew that look, it had been ground into her head. Fear. Fear of the monster they all saw her as. She almost never used her quirk after that. Others showed it off, but she just hid, claiming to all who didn’t know her as quirkless. Though, that all changed in high school. She had sworn she’d be a hero, even just a sidekick. She was sure she could help somehow. She knew she would never get into UA, their entrance exams were too flashy, too… monitored. So she went for the next best thing. Shiketsu High. By some Miracle she made it in, using her hero suit to manage her way through all the tests and sports festivals. She hadn’t transformed once since the first time all those years ago. Until Shiketsu and UA paired up for a televised training exercise.
She felt a sharp jab in her left side as she glanced over, seeing YaoMomo twisting their fingers into her side. She raised an eyebrow at the creator, only to see them mouth ‘pay attention’ and gesture towards the front. Sashi let out a quiet huff as she turned towards the front of the room. Uravity was explaining their new patrol routes, describing how they needed to stay more vigilant. Villain attacks were getting more and more severe as well as frequent. While Sashi believed it was a coincidence, Uravity and other big name heroes believed they were ramping up to something on a larger scale that they haven’t figured out yet.
Sashi studied the map that was laid out on the screen, the routes were 3 times longer than what was given before. They apparently had to cover more areas to make sure nothing suspicious happened. Sashi knew it was her job, but she was lazy. She never realized being a hero was this much work. She thought, like most of her friends, it was just stopping villains and presenting yourself to the public. Though her of all people should have known how much work it was, especially having worked up to the top 20 heroes with her hero suit and equipment alone. She made sure at least 90% of the public never knew what her quirk was. Hell, only like 4 people in the conference room remembered/knew what her quirk was. The rest never questioned it, all they cared about was proving if you could be a hero, which she has done countless times.
The meeting lasted over an hour as she sat there, bored out of her mind. After the meeting ended, Uravity told them to get into pairs and head out on patrol. Sashi quickly left the room, sighing softly as she tugged at some of the equipment on her belt. She was a thin but fit young woman. She was about 175cm(5’7) tall, she had dark chocolate hair, most was pulled back into a ponytail, however some fell by her cheeks and over her forehead. She had hazel colored eyes, giving her face a little definition. Her and her family are originally from Germany, though they moved to Japan when she was 8 years old. She had little friends growing up, both due to her foreign origins and their fear of her quirk. Throughout middle school she only had 1 to 2 friends at a time, only to be scared off by kids who told stories about how she turns into a monster and eats people. The only friend she’s had even till now was Momo Yaoyarozu. They both attended the same elementary and middle schools. She was Sashi’s one source of comfort throughout everything. However, that left for a time when Momo started attending UA, and Sashi at Shiketsu. The only times they saw each other during their high school years was during the license exam and in 3rd year when Shiketsu and UA had a school tournament.
She heard footsteps run up behind her as she slowly glanced back, noticing an energetic blonde elbow her in the shoulder, snickering softly as he glanced at her.
“So, the hell were you daydreaming about during the meeting?” Kaminari teased, his voice as upbeat as ever as he glanced at her.
She let out a soft giggle as she elbowed him back, dodging the question. “Like you were paying any attention either~! I saw you staring at Jiro the whole time, when are you gonna ask her out”. That shut the blonde up rather quickly as she smirked. Her eyes narrowed as she put her hands into her pockets. A couple more sets of footsteps sound off behind the 2 as Momo and Mina walk past, waving at the blonde and brunette as they pass by. Sashi’s gaze lingered on Momo a little too long, because seconds later she felt another jab in her shoulder from Kaminari
“How’s it going with you 2~? You guys hang out together all the time, i’m surprised you aren’t even dating yet” he teased, eliciting a glare from the brunette. She shook her head slowly as she crossed her arms. “No clue what you’re talking about~ now shut up and be my patrol partner, i’m sure Jiro needs a break from your torment you call ‘flirting’”. She giggled softly as she looked towards the blonde. Since she was hired at Uravity’s agency, her and the electric hero had formed a close bonde, becoming very close friends. She would often find them at either one of their apartments hanging out and messing around. He was one of the few who remembered her quirk from the school contest, though he didn’t care. He was one of the few who actually thought it was cool, saying it was like something out of Attack on Titan or something. Him and Momo were the only ones he felt comfortable sharing information about her quirk on, because she knew they wouldn’t judge her. She didn’t have to put on a fake smile when she was with either of them.
They joked around as they slowly went out towards their specified sector of the city. Like most times, it seemed heavily uneventful. She looked around the massive Tokyo skyline as she wandered down the street. Kaminari held his hands on his head, laughing softly at her, causing her to glare at him as they walked, her arms crossing over her head as she puffed out her cheeks.
“What is it, lightning rod?” she huffed out, her hazel eyes narrowing slightly as she went.
“Oh nothing~! You’ve been in this city for 3 years and you look like it’s your first time here”.
She only rolled her eyes, spinning around on her heels as she walked several steps forward, hitting the fuel tanks on the sides of her thighs a few times before pulling 2 handles with triggers off of her hips. The bottom of which had wires connecting to a small box connected to a wheel with steel cable wrapped around it on either hip as well. She started to quicken her pace, going from a walk to a jog, then a jog to a run, then a run to a sprint. She then bent her knees, soon launching herself up off the ground, thrusting her hips forward slightly as she pulled the triggers on the handles. Suddenly a small harpoon/grappling hook shot out of the box on her right hip, connected to the steel cable on the wheel. The hook dug into the wall of a building as the sound of steel grinding on steel echoed through the air. She soon launched forward as the cable started winding up again. A small thruster/jet on her back connected to the fuel tanks on her thighs. The thruster roared to life as it threw her forward, the hook pulling out of the building and back to her hip as she fired the left, the harpoon slamming into another building across the street. The thruster shot her up toward the sky, her eyes beaming with glee as she let out a loud laugh, swinging from building to building like spider-man. From high in the air, she could see everything. The streets were filled with people going on with their lives. All trusting in heroes to keep them safe in case something went wrong. She spun around in the air, looking back to see Kaminari sprinting after her, waving and what she assumed was laughing. She smirked as she retracted the harpoon into the box before shooting the right one back towards the building in front of the blonde. Her eyes narrow as she shot forward, smirking softly as she released the harpoon at the last second, somersaulting onto the concrete then onto her feet, stumbling forward before letting a huge smile pull on her mouth.
Hours later, the 2 were still wandering around the city, already on their 3rd lap.“Why is patrol so boring today..? Not even someone stealing a purse…” Kaminari groaned. Sashi only laughed crossing her arms as she cast her gaze up at the sky. “That’s not the worst thing ya know… in a perfect world there wouldn’t really be a need for us heroes”. Kaminari only glared at his friend “Wow, way to delicately say our world’s shit dude”. The female only shook her head, walking ahead of her friend. Yeah, this world could be better, but it’s what they have. So they need to protect it with everything they have. She slowly looked at her hand, clenching it into a fist before opening it. She glanced back at her friend, who’s attention was somewhere else. She raised an eyebrow before an all to familiar voice echoed through the city.
“Hello everybody! And Welcome to the annual UA vs Shiketsu competition! Let’s get ready to RUMBLE!”. Present Mic’s voice rang through her head like an alarm as her eyes darted towards the large screen across the intersection. On it was the next generation of heroes standing in an all too familiar stadium. A shiver ran down her spine as memories flooded her mind of the last time she was in that stadium. That was the second time she had ever transformed. A memory she didn’t want to relive just now.
She cast her gaze down as she quickly started to head back to the agency building, her eyes filled with regret and fear. She felt Kaminari’s gaze on the back of her head as she froze up. Shit, what was he gonna say now. He knew that this was a sensitive subject, but she was still scared he’d say something that she wouldn’t know how to react to. She stood there frozen, her eyes staring at the pavement as she suddenly felt something on her shoulder, glancing over. Her eyes met his, a soft smile across his face as he patted her shoulder before letting out a soft sigh.
“It wasn’t your fault, those stadiums got damaged all the time”.
She felt her heart crack slightly as she slowly glanced back at the concrete. A bug slowly dragging a smaller bug across the ground. She let out a shaky breath as she stepped over the bugs, soon following after the blonde. She was to blame though, she let everyone’s fear get to her. She lost control… then she-. She was shaken out of her thoughts by Kaminari starting to talk.
“Yo, so me, Momo, Mina, Uraraka and Jiro were planning to meet up with some of our friends after work if you wanna join”. He glanced up over his shoulder, smirking softly. His long, black jacket flowed behind him as he walked. “Besides, you could pull Momo away and have a ‘date’ if you want~”.
She felt her cheeks warm up as she blinked a few times. She opened her mouth to speak, only to have incoherent sounds fall out of her face. She seemed to forget how to speak, eliciting laughter from the blonde as she glared at him, finally gaining the ability to speak, albeit loosely, as she replied. “If it’s ok.. I mean I'm not as close to the others as I am with you and YaoMomo, p-plus I think Uravity kinda hates me…”.
A nervous laugh fell out of her as she gently rubbed the back of her head, glancing to the side as she felt embarrassed. She usually slept through all of the meetings or was distracted messing with Kaminari. She would get snapped at by Uravity, causing her to have to tiptoe around the woman as she went along with her day. She has been chewed out several times for goofing off when on duty, but it wasn’t her fault that patrol was boring. It never helped that she was always teamed up with her best friend. She didn’t want to step on her boss’s toes more than she already does and push her luck. The last thing she needs was to get drunk and say some stupid shit that she’ll forget but Uraraka would clearly remember. She felt a shiver run down her spine at the thought of an angry Uraraka.
Kaminari only laughed, turning around and walking backwards as he gave a semi-judgemental look at her. “Oh shut up, Uraraka doesn’t hate you. She’s a hardass because she wants you to succeed. Especially because you got to the top 20 without using your quirk! Don’t be so hard on yourself, or i’ll call you potato girl again”. He spun around, walking forward as he wandered off towards the agency. Sashi felt her cheeks go red as she glared at the blonde. “It was one time!”. He laughed again looking back as he was gripping his stomach. “It was your first day on the job! You walked into the conference room eating a baked potato!”. The 2 argued all the way back to the agency, play fighting as they walked in, eliciting looks from other heroes and people who worked there.
______________________________________________________________________________
They’re looking at me. Is the fight over? Why are they looking at me? Why do they look scared? Why are they small?! Why is there so much steam? Why is it so hot? I need to go, I need to leave now. I need to get as far away as possible. I need to run. They can’t be scared of me if i’m gone. Why is there screaming? What’s all this sticky red stuff? Why is it all over my feet? What’s happening?! It’s so hot, it’s so so hot. Why can’t I leave?! Let me out.
Let me out.
Let me out.
Let me OUT!
Sashi shook awake as she felt a jolt surge through her body. She blinks a couple of times as she glanced around. She was in her office, safe. She slowly wiped the sleep from her eyes as she sat back in her chair, leaning her head back to look up at the ceiling. She had gone 2 years without having her mind flooded with the memories of her past. She had a troubling childhood, she always isolated herself if others weren’t distancing themselves from her. Sure, kids with strong quirks bullied those with weaker ones, but for her, it wasn’t about whether her quirk was strong or weak. Kids bullied her for what her quirk was in general. The boys who were bullying HER that day went and told the teachers and their parents that she attacked them. She couldn’t remember what had happened that day. She only remembers falling and getting hurt, wanting to make them feel what it felt like to get pushed to the ground. Then the next thing she remembered was waking up in the school infirmary. After that, all the kids looked at her like she was a monster, some cannibal… thing, not even human. It changed a little when she entered middle school. Some new faces to meet, who didn’t know who she was or what happened. That all changed when she got into a fight with some boy from her elementary school. She managed to wrestle the boy to the ground, but when he pushed her off, he screamed at the top of his lungs. “What are you gonna do? Try and eat me like you did to those other kids in 3rd grade?!”. Suddenly the story spread through the school like wildfire, breeding all new rumors about her. She was never the most popular, but that just drove the few friends she had away. She often begged her parents to move back to Germany, but her dad’s job wouldn’t let them. So after that, she just put on a fake smile. She did her best to ignore them, acting like the insults just glanced off her, however they still hurt. But over time, she formed a sort of shell around herself. She found it hard to distinguish where the fake her ended and the real her started. She often never spoke for days unless someone asked her a question.
Once she was accepted into Shiketsu, she felt like a weight was pulled off her shoulders. She never ran into any old classmates. She could skate through on her brains and her hero suit. She found a loophole in the system. She didn’t HAVE to use her quirk to complete the trials, as long as she did them to a satisfactory level. She was the top of her class, proud and tall. Completely new, completely true to herself. She made it all the way to 3rd year, working hard to prove herself. Rumors went around that she was actually quirkless, but she didn’t care. The teachers still treated her like a hero, so that was fine by her. She was sure everything would go fine. She would get her official heroes licence, and go on to be a hero without using her quirk once to get there. She was sure she would be fine, nothing at all could go wrong. Nothing whatsoever. It would all be fine. Then the stupid school against school contest. It all fell apart. They were all horrified. The memories were hazy, but it was much more clear than 3rd grade. She tried to run, but she lost control. She didn’t mean to! She just got scared, she didn’t want to hurt anyone! But in the end...
She flinched as there was a knock on her door, soon opening to reveal Momo and Kaminari. The 2 waltzed in as Sashi quickly organized her desk, trying to make it look neat and tidy, knowing Momo preferred things that way. Kaminari snickered, seeing her scramble around. She just glared at him before her eyes darted between the 2, an eyebrow quirking up.
“What’s up?” she asked, her voice as cheerful as ever, pushing her reliving of her childhood into the deep recesses of her mind. She didn’t want to randomly look depressed around her closest, and if she was being honest, only friends.
Momo walked over next to her, gently crossing her arms under her chest as she looked down at the brunette. She let out a small sigh as she let a small smile pull on her lips. “Kaminari says you’re coming with us to get drinks, so we came to get you”.
Sashi paused for a second, slowly narrowing her eyes as her gaze fell upon the blonde. Luckily for him, he was out of her reach, though her glare drilled through him like there was no tomorrow. “Yeah, drinks, how could I have forgotten. Thanks for telling her. Kaminari”. He snickered as he held his hands up in surrender “Whaaat, you’ll have fun! You’ll get to meet our friends! And you can see Uraraka’s Fiancé”.
Sashi’s eyes widened as she shot up as if someone just blew up her door. “She has a fiancé? How the hell did she manage that?!” She couldn’t hide the shock in her voice as she looked between Kaminari and Momo. They both just laughed as Momo grabbed her arm, pulling her out as the 2 headed towards the elevator, dragging her along.
Apparently the bar was only a few blocks away from the agency, so they were all going to just walk there. She trailed behind the 2, hearing them retell stories of their UA days. She just stayed quiet, knowing she couldn’t contribute to the conversation. She had a bad habit of butting into conversations she had no part in, trying to hope people like her. Though it usually backfires into people yelling at her to shut up. She glanced around, seeing the city skyline illuminated by the orange and reds that filled up the evening sky. She tuned out their conversation, continuing forward as she looked up at the sky. She glanced every now and then to make sure she was still following after the 2 heroes. She watched the sky, seeing the stars start to sparkle out of their hiding spots in the night sky. She lost track of time as she saw some shooting stars streak across the sky. A small smile formed on her lips as she continued walking for what felt like hours. Her eyes were stuck to the sky when she felt a tug on her arm. Her eyes fell from the stars, slowly glancing over towards the black haired girl holding onto her wrist, slightly confused.
“We’re here Sashi, we thought you were just gonna keep walking till you dropped”. Momo smiled softly as she pulled her inside gently. Kaminari laughed and slapped his hand into her back a couple of times, smirking “Ya need to get your head out of the stars, and focus on the one in front of you~” he teased, causing her to elbow him in the ribs. He coughed a little as he wacked her in the head. The 2 started roughhousing like siblings as an annoyed Momo pulled them towards the table they had reserved.
“Stop it you two! Is that how heroes are supposed to act?”.
Sashi and Kaminari immediately froze as they looked over, seeing Uraraka standing next to the table with her arms crossed, an angry glare fixed onto them. A shiver ran down them as they quietly walked over, holding in their giggles and urges to wack each other. Sashi was about to sit down when she glanced over next to where Uraraka was preparing to sit. She froze in place when she saw the spiky mop of ash blonde hair, her eyes growing double the size as she tried to speak. However no words would come out of her mouth. She looked between the others then back at the male, who was now angrily looking up from the drink menu, his thin wire glasses sliding down his nose as he raised his eyebrow.
“You need something? Titan girl?”. His crimson eyes glared at her like her head would explode if he looked at her enough.
She felt her heart pang at the name, however she swallowed her emotions as she shook her head quickly. “N-no Ground Zero sir! S-sorry!” she muttered quickly. Both Kaminari and Momo glare at Bakugou for the name. Sashi wasn’t going to lie, it felt good to have people looking after her. Soon the door to the bar opened up as loud laughter filled the place. Soon a tall redhead sat next to Sashi as she scooted over to give him space. Her eyes widened slightly as she realized who it was, for many reasons.
“R-Red.. Riot?! K-Kami, Momo! You never told me you knew him! And Ground Zero for that matter!”. Kaminari and Momo smiled brightly as the male who came in with Kirishima sits down at the table across from her. His messy green hair pulled back into a ponytail as he beams a bright smile. Her eyes became saucers as she looked at him just sitting so nonchalantly.
“N-Number 1… hero… Deku-”. Her mind flooded from all the information as she desperately looked at Kami and Momo. Her eyes begged for answers as she looked between the 2. They only smirked as they started talking. She heard Kirishima start talking with deku again as she just sat there quietly. As the night went on she picked up that it was Bakugou that Uraraka was engaged to. Their wedding was in the summer, Uraraka even invited her which kinda caught her off guard. She also learned that Deku and the number 4 hero, Shouto, have been married for a year, and that Kirishima was planning on proposing to Mina some time within the near future. She watched as everyone fell into a form of comfort and calm. Even the stoic Bakugou couldn’t help but talk to the others. She felt kind of awkward as she sat there, twirling the straw in her drink. She slowly started to space out, watching the ice spin before she felt a tap on her right shoulder, snapping her back to reality. She glanced over, slightly dazed. Though when her gaze landed on the redhead she quickly sat up straight as she blinked the dazedness out of her eyes
“U-uhm yes sir?”. She managed that out of her mouth, feeling her heart racing at a million miles per hour.
The redhead let out a soft laugh as he beamed happily. “No need for the sir, just call me Kirishima, we’re the same age anyways”.
She nodded, closing her eyes for a second before opening them again “Yeah, Kirishima?”
He smiled more as he laughed softly “I wanna know how ya’ve been! We haven’t interacted since 3rd year! That was almost 5 years ago!”.
She felt her heart sink as she cast her gaze down, feeling guilt well up inside her as she bit her lip. He obviously remembers her, and she remembers him all too well. “I’ve… i’ve been good. Made my way up to rank 20th! B-but I know that means nothing to the number 3 hero…” she says quietly, rubbing her arm as she glanced away nervously. She felt a hand on her shoulder as she looked up, raising an eyebrow.
“20th is nothing to be ashamed of! Only 10 more till you’re top 10! I’m sure you’ll make it up to the top 5 by the end of the year! Just keep working extra hard” he pumped his fist, laughing as he did it. “Also you should be proud! You made it to the top 20 heroes in Japan without using your quirk! Honestly, I feel like we should have swapped places, you’ve been working twice as hard as all of us. Well.. except Bakugou- but he’s extra”.
The blonde flipped him off, but everyone could see the smirk tugging at his lips. The number 1 hero cleared his throat, leaning forward towards her a little. “So, Sashi, why don’t you use your quirk? If you don’t mind me asking! I don’t wanna make you feel forced-”. The green haired male rambled on for a while, causing her to giggle softly before taking in a deep baited breath.
“It… brings up bad memories. Plus, I… I wind up just scaring more people than I help. So I learned to rely on my hero suit. It’s probably better for everyone… besides… I don’t wanna repeat what happened with…” she glanced at Kirishima then around the table, clearing her throat. “A-anyways! Uhm, yeah- that’s why. Plus I feel like I can get more done not using it so”. She shrugged, letting out a nervous laugh hoping they would drop it.
The redhead raised an eyebrow before his eyes slowly widened, looking back at her. Her heart sank as she knew he remembered exactly what she alluded to. She kept her eyes staring at her drink as she cut off Kirishima before he could speak.
“Sorry for intruding on your get together… Momo and Kami dragged me along, i don’t really feel like I should be here though…”. She paused, realizing she sounded rude.”I-I don’t mean I don’t feel welcome! I do! It’s just you all have catching up to do and I barely know any of you so-”. Her rambling stopped as the redhead put his hand on her shoulder briefly as she glanced over. He beamed a bright smile yet again.
“It’s fine! If they wanted you to come then you should stay! We don’t mind having you here! Well… maybe Bakugou, but i doubt he wants any of us here”. Deku laughed as he looked over towards the blonde. His eyes narrow “Shut up shitty hair, Titan Girl can stay. She’s better than fucking racoon eyes over here, at least she’s quiet- OW!”. the table erupted into laughter as Mina wacked Bakugou in the arm.
Deku wiped a tear from his eye before turning towards Sashi, smiling as some giggles still escaped him “See, even he doesn’t mind you being here, which is really saying something”. Kirishima nods as he laughs softly.
Sashi nodded, smiling more. She started to feel better. She actually felt happy. These were the people who stopped her 5 years ago when she lost control, yet they had no hard feelings. She looked down at her drink, giggling softly.
The night went on. They all drank and laughed. Soon the music kicked on, and the group migrated to the bar and the dance floor. The first to dance were Mina, Kirishima, Kaminari and Jiro. Uraraka laughed at Kaminari and Kirishima, watching them fail miserably as she leaned against Bakugou, who had his arms around her lovingly. They all danced, having their fun. Soon Uraraka pulled some of the others up, leaving her and Bakugou alone as she watched them all dance and have fun. The blonde slowly walked over, sipping at his drink as he glanced at her before turning to face their friends. She looked at him briefly before looking away. She felt awkward. She knew he wasn’t one for conversation, but she didn’t know what she should do now. She slowly opened her mouth, about to let words fall out when she was cut off.
“So what’s your deal?”. His voice was blunt. He never even looked over towards her direction, his gaze fixed on what Sashi could only assume was Uraraka.
The brunette raised an eyebrow. His question caught her off guard, and the lack of context wasn’t helping her situation. So she just fell onto her default: when in doubt, play dumb. “I-I’m sorry I don’t understa-” before she could finish, an irritated grunt came from the blonde, interrupting her again.
“With your quirk. You have a couple bad experiences with it and then you just cut yourself off? Who gives a fuck if people look at you like they’re scared little pussies” he waved a hand in the air, his gaze finally falling on her out of the corner of his eyes. “You have a powerful ass quirk, you should use it and train it… not hide it away” he sighed, taking a sip of his drink. “Listen, Sashi. A quirk is like any skill or machine. The less you use it, the bigger the chance of you losing control and messing something up. And with your power… you really can’t afford to mess up”. And with that he got up and walked away, heading towards the dance floor to collect his very drunk fiancé.
She sat at the bar for about 30 more minutes, playing with her straw. She kept replaying Bakugou’s words in her head, trying to make sense of them. Her mind raced as she closed her eyes. She did need to train her power, not fear it. But she couldn’t help but be scared, when you turn into a 14 meter tall person, one wrong step could literally kill someone. She shook her head, gently slapping her cheeks as she opened her hazel eyes. She needed to get over this irrational fear of her own power. It was her’s, she shouldn’t run from this. It was like Bakugou implied, the more she used it the better she could control it. She would make this power her’s, she would control it, not the other way around. Her hand gripped into a tight fist, her eyes swelling with determination as she let a triumphant smirk pull on her lips. Though she couldn’t see it, the blonde hero was looking at her from the dance floor, a small grin crossing his face as he watched her seem to make up her mind. She straightened her posture, a small giggle leaving her lips as she nodded to herself. “I’ll make sure I control my power… I'll be a hero everyone can respect!”. A small laugh coming from next to her caused her cheeks to flush red, quickly looking to her right, unaware anyone was next to her.
Momo smiled softly, nodding as she gently held her own fists up, a determined look spreading on her face. “And i’ll help! We all will. We want you to succeed, we don’t want you to be scared of your power! It’s beautiful, and we want you to see it for how we see it! The power of a hero!”.
Sashi felt her cheeks grow warm as she nodded, a smile spreading across her face as she glanced towards the creator. Her heart was beating at a million miles an hour as the creator leaned in closer, excited about helping out. Sashi’s hazel eyes glanced away as she scratched her cheek a little, blushing more “I-I mean, if you want- you don’t have to” she mumbled, feeling her hands get taken into Momo’s as their black irises sparked, nodding quickly.
“Well.. I mean if you want to then-” she said softly, being cut off by Momo letting out an excited squeal. The black haired hero pulled her into a tight hug before grabbing her wrist, pulling her towards the other on the dance floor. The rest of the night was spent by the group dancing around and drinking. Kaminari and Sashi bought shots for everyone, several times over. It grew painfully obvious who could take their liquor and who couldn’t. About 3 rounds in Bakugou had to take Uraraka home, actually smiling as he waved at everyone. Soon Kirishima and Kaminari found a Karaoke place on their phones. They dragged the others along, Momo and Sashi leaning on each other as they pointedly laughed at some of their stories of Kaminari and how stupid he could be, making Jiro laugh. The next thing Sashi knew, they were all being piled up into a room with a large screen and several microphones. They all laughed as they took turns singing different songs with varying degrees of skill. The rest of the night was a blur, everything started squishing together, but she didn’t really care. It’s been a long time since she’s had this much fun. She really hoped she would remember most of this, even in her drunken state she knew she wanted to be friends with these people.
