Back At It
KNOCK KNOCK!
“Oof! Ow…” Catra grumbles after Adora rolls over, pulling the blanket from under the magicat and thus making Catra roll off the bed and onto the ground.
The magicat pushes herself up into a sitting position, wincing as she rubs the back of her head and then realizes that Adora is still asleep, if the sound of the blonde’s light snoring gives it away.
KNOCK KNOCK!
“What the actual fuck?” Catra grumbles out as she shakes herself awake at the rude awakening, standing up and getting her bearings when that insistent knocking continues, not that Adora seems to be concerned or even aware of it. The magicat leans over and nudges the blonde, “Adora? Wake up. There’s someone at your door.”
“Mm… sleeping.” Adora replies curling herself further into her blankets.
KNOCK KNOCK!
“Who the fuck is knocking at this hour?!” Catra grumbles to herself as she checks the time, “It’s 7 in the fucking morning…”
Adora falls back asleep despite the noise as Catra sighs out, trudging over to her front door, reaching out for the door handle and then hesitating for a moment when she’s startled by another round of knocking, making her growls as she swings the door open, “What?!”
“Ado… ah… hello…” A dark skinned man wearing a crop top with a heart in the middle says as he looks around and then back at the door number, “Is… is uh, Adora here?”
“Yeah. She’s in bed.” Catra replies rubbing her eyes and then scratching her stomach from under her shirt, “Who are you?”
“Oh…” For a second the man takes a second to process what Catra had just said before he remembers his manners, “Oh, right. Sorry, I’m Bow! Adora’s best friend! Or, well one of Adora’s best friends.”
“Uh huh.” Catra nods, “Why are you here at 7am, my dude?”
“Why are you?” Bow asks back.
“She wanted company.” Catra shrugs as she stares at him, “So I kept her company. Why are you here?”
“We usually go for a run on Saturday mornings before we grab Glimmer and have brunch.” Bow happily supplies and then tilts his head at the magicat, “Sorry… I didn’t get your name?”
“Catra.”
“Oh, yes. It’s really nice to meet you, Catra.” Bow smiles genuinely, “So… are you and Adora…? Did you…? Uh…”
Catra watches as Bow makes a few questionable hand gestures and then looks away sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck as she holds back a chuckle, “Did we… what?”
“Uh…” He laughs nervously.
“She’s still in bed.” Catra replies, Bow looks up quickly, “She’s sleeping. Pushed me off the bed and I think I bumped the back of my head…”
“You… you slept in her bed?” Catra nods slowly and then he leans in and whispers, “Is… is she decent?”
“If you are asking if she’s clothed, then yes.” Catra crosses her arms over her chest, “And in those ridiculous horse pajamas, no less.”
“Alicorns.” Bow corrects.
“Whatever.” Catra turns around, leaving the door open, gesturing Bow to come inside, “I’ve got to grab my keys from her bedroom.”
“I might just wait here.” Bow announces as he stops in the middle of the room.
“Suit yourself.” Catra says as she pushes open Adora’s bedroom door and gets back into bed, turning over and rubbing her hand up and down the blonde’s arm who is now cuddled into her blankets as the magicat whispers, “Adora? Adora? Are you awake?”
“No.” Adora grumbles childishly, making Catra chuckle, “Mm sleeping…”
“Uh huh.” Catra rolls onto her back, “You’ve got your 7am run buddy waiting for you outside.”
“Hm?”
“Some dude called… Bow?” Catra closes her eyes as she relaxes back into bed.
“Mm…” Adora hums out before she realizes that her best friend is here and that wakes her up quick smart, “Bow!”
“Here!” He calls out from outside her bedroom.
Adora looks over at Catra and her eyes widen, “Catra?”
“That’s my name.” Catra replies with her eyes closed.
“You… you’re here.” Adora blurts out.
“Said I would.” Catra says before cracking one eye open, “I can go home if you want me to.”
“Oh, no. Stay. Please.” Adora says without a second thought.
“Whatever you want princess.” Catra grins closing both eyes once more, “Though, if you plan on having your boyfriend join us, then I’m out.”
“He’s not my boyfriend.” Adora rolls her eyes, “He’s one of my best friends.”
“Said something about running and glitter and lunch.” Catra surmises her conversation with Bow, “If you want to go running, I can head back to my place.”
“Glimmer.”
“Huh?”
“Her names Glimmer. Not glitter.” Adora corrects with a slight giggle, “And before you ask, no, she’s not my girlfriend. She’s my other best friend.”
“Okay.” Catra replies with a chuckle, “Wasn’t going to ask.”
“Stay?” Adora asks with a hopeful look on her face, not that Catra’s able to see if with her eyes closed, “I’ll just go talk to Bow.”
Catra nods, feeling the bed dip closer to her, and then she feels Adora’s warm lips on her cheek and her eyes open to see the smile on the blonde’s face, “What…?”
“Good morning.” Adora greets with a blush before hopping over and out of bed and almost runs out of the door, she sees Bow and smiles before it drops when she realizes that she’s supposed to go running with him, “I’m so sorry, Bow.”
“It’s fine, Adora.” Bow brushes off, “Heck, I’ve cancelled on you more times than you have me. Which… now that I think about it… this is the first time…”
“I feel really bad, Bow.” Adora looks down.
“Don’t be.” Bow puts his hand on her shoulder, “Call it even? Since we kind of… didn’t make it out last night…”
“Are you sure?” Adora asks still feeling guilty.
“Very sure.” Bow confirms with a winning and then relaxes his whole body, “Honestly, I’m glad we aren’t running this morning. Glim and I had a little too much to celebrate last night and my head is still thumping…”
Adora laughs, and then she sees the hickies on Bow’s neck, “Looks like you two had a very good night.”
Bow preens, not even a little embarrassed, “What about you? Did you get lucky last night too?”
“Nope!” Catra calls out from the bedroom, “Not even close!”
Adora flushes, “Nothing happened.”
Bow nods with a smile.
“I’m serious! Nothing happened!” Adora whisper shouts to him, “Catra kept me company. You know how I am with thunder and lightning… and then the power went out and I couldn’t…”
“Hey, it’s okay, Adora.” Bow squeezes Adora’s shoulder reassuringly, “I’m glad you found someone to keep you company last night. And next time, just call us if you want company.”
“You guys were busy. I didn’t want to interrupt you guys.” Adora says.
“We’re the Best Friend’s Squad!” Bow says, “And we are always there for each other. No matter what.”
Adora smiles as she lets herself be enveloped in Bow’s arms as he brings her in for a hug, “Thanks Bow.”
“No problems!” Bow beams, “Okay, I’m going to go home and sleep off this hangover. Shall we reschedule lunch for tomorrow?”
“Sure.” Adora smiles with a nod as she walks him out, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Bye, Adora.” Bow nods back and then calls out over her shoulder, “Bye Catra! It was really nice meeting you!”
“See ya Arrows!” Catra calls back as Adora smiles and quickly shuts the door before he can ask anymore questions, the blonde leans her back against the door once it’s shut and breathes out. And then the magicat calls out, “Are you coming back to bed, princess? Or is my company no longer required?”
“Coming!” Adora calls back as she makes her way back.
“Are you hungry?” Adora asks as she rolls over and stares back at the magicat’s eyes looking at her, “I uh, I don’t have a lot of stuff. But I’ve got cereal and bread maybe?”
Catra huffs out a laugh and sits up, “I have a better idea.”
“Where are you going?” Adora asks as she watches the magicat get up and off the bed, stretching out her limbs with a lazy yawn.
“Come on, princess.” Catra holds out her hand, “I know you’re hungry.”
Adora narrows her eyes at the magicat and then puts her hand in Catra’s, “Okay…”
Adora sits at Catra’s dining table as the magicat cooks up breakfast for the pair, the blonde looks down at herself, still in her pajamas, “I think I might go get changed…”
“Why?”
“Because I’m still in my pajamas?” Adora asks right back confused, “Why is that really even a question?”
Catra laughs, “You look cute in those.”
Adora blushes and grumbles out, “Shut up. I do not…”
The magicat places a plate of food on the table in front of the blonde, “Eat up, princess.”
The blonde looks up at Catra, the magicat taking her seat across from Adora with her own plate and starts eating, “Thank you.”
Catra shrugs, “It’s fine, better than cereal or ‘maybe’ bread.” The magicat laughs a little to herself, “Maybe… I can take you out for dinner?”
Adora stops just short of taking her first bite, looking at the magicat who continues to eat, the ears on her head twitching and flicking about, “Are you… are you asking me out?”
“…yes?”
A happy grin appears on Adora’s face, “That’s so cute.”
Catra rolls her eyes, “It’s cute that I’m trying to invite you out to dinner with me?”
“Yes.” Adora smiles wider, “I don’t usually get asked out.”
“Yes, you do.” Catra refutes, “Pretty sure that suit last night did.”
“Gross.” Adora sticks her tongue out, “Why is it only guys ask me out?”
“Are we seriously going to go through this again?” Catra asks with a raised eyebrow, “I’m not repeating the whole light and spark thing. Your ego and forehead are already big enough.”
Adora nearly chokes as she snorts out a laugh, “Okay, okay… rude…”
“So… is that a yes?” Catra asks with a hopeful lilt in her voice.
Just as Adora is about to answer, Catra’s phone rings. The blonde notices the magicat not moving to answer it and asks, “Are you going to get that?”
“It can wait.” Catra replies as her phone finally stops ringing, “Your answer however…”
And just as Adora is about to answer again, Catra’s phone goes off again, the blonde snickers, getting up from her seat and walks over to the magicat, leaning down and presses a kiss on Catra’s cheek, “What do you think?”
“I don’t really want to guess… I’ve been wrong before…” Catra admits as her phone continues to chime incessantly, “Ugh! Hang on.”
Adora laughs, going back to her seat to finish her breakfast, “Take your time, Cat.”
Catra rolls her eyes at the blonde as she gets up to answer the phone, “Traps. What’s up?”
“Hey, Adora?” Catra says coming back to the kitchen/dining area, “I’ve got to go into work in a few hours.”
“Oh, right.” Adora nods, “I should probably get back to my place… shower or whatever…”
Catra smiles at the blonde, “Come by my work later?”
“Sure.” Adora smiles back as she takes her now empty plate to the sink and quickly washes it up before looking over at Catra, “I’ll do the dishes. Go get ready.”
“It’s fine, Adora.” Catra comes over with her own empty plate, “I’ve got this. You’re my guest in my home.”
“But…” Adora starts to pout in protest.
“Nope. Get out of my kitchen, princess.” Catra says sternly and then smirks, “I’ve got a few hours before I have to get to back to work, so… why don’t you pick out a movie or a video game we can play?”
Adora sighs upon seeing the look on Catra’s face that says don’t argue with me, the blonde nods and heads over to the magicat’s living area and starts to rifle through the titles of movies and games available. The blonde looks over at the magicat still washing up and smiles before going back to her task.
“Oh, man!” Catra grumbles as she loses to Adora again in a Street Fighter-esq game, “You have to be cheating or something, princess…”
Adora laughs, “Nah, I’m just really good with my fingers.”
Catra quirks and eyebrow up at the blonde at the innuendo, “Yeah? And I’m good with my tongue. What’s your point?”
Adora stutters out, her face turning red with a blush, “Uh… that’s… that’s… good to know…”
The magicat laughs out and then looks up at the time, “Fuck, I better get ready…”
Adora nods, exiting the game and then placing the controllers back in the case, “Okay. I think I’m going to head back to my place.”
Catra gets up off the floor, pulling Adora up with her with a teasing look on her face, “Are you going to be alright all alone in your apartment for a little while?”
Adora shoves the magicat back playfully, “Yes. I’ll be fine, Cat.”
“Oh, hang on.” Catra quickly moves to her bedroom while Adora stares after the magicat confused.
“Catra, what are you… oh…” Adora says as the magicat reappears holding out a key to the blonde, “What’s this?”
“A key.” Catra says.
“Uh huh…? For?”
“For my heart.” Catra says simply before laughing out when Adora’s eyes widen, “No, dummy. It’s a key for my apartment.”
“Uh… why are you giving me this?” Adora stares at the key still being held out to her.
Catra shrugs, “I feel like I can trust you with it.”
“You literally met me last night.” Adora rolls her eyes at the magicat, “You don’t even know my last name.”
“Don’t need to. I know your heart.” Catra replies, “Besides, sparks don’t lie.”
“I don’t know what that means.” Adora says confused.
“Just take the key, princess.” Catra nudges it closer to Adora, “It’d make be feel better if you had it instead of knocking on my door at stupid o’clock because of a little bit of thunder and lightning.”
Adora gingerly takes the key, “But… but I don’t have a spare key for you…”
“It’s fine, Adora.” Catra wipes her hand on her pants, “Okay, I’ve got to go get ready. Can you just lock the door when you head out?”
Nodding, Adora steps closer to the magicat and envelopes Catra in a hug, “Thank you. For last night and everything else.”
Catra wraps her arms around Adora’s waist and breathes out, “My pleasure, Adora.”
“I’ll see you later?”
“You better.” Catra grins.
As Adora starts to make her way to the door, she turns around, “Are you driving in tonight?”
“Uh…” Catra rubs the back of her head where the sore spot is still evident from her fall from Adora’s bed before answering, “Yeah, I think I might have to.”
“Okay.” Adora nods, “I’ll see you later, then. Bye Catra.”
“Bye Adora.” Catra smiles as she watches Adora lock the door before exiting and pulling the door shut.
“So… you slept with her?” Entrapta asks as they sit at the bar, Catra runs her fingers through her short hair, “But you saw it, right?”
“The sparks?” Catra asks, “Yeah, I saw them.”
“That’s good, right?” Entrapta asks as she takes a sip from her shot glass.
“I think so.” The magicat replies unsurely, “I asked her out to dinner but she didn’t exactly answer.”
“No?”
“Not really. And I really don’t want to get my hopes up just in case it happens again.” Catra admits defeatedly.
“What happened last time wasn’t meant to be.” Entrapta says as she taps on her tablet, “From my data, what happened the first time was due to adolescence and an increase in hormones. Magicat puberty is very interesting.”
“Ugh.” Catra slumps down onto the counter of the bar, “I really like her, Traps.”
Entrapta pats Catra on the back reassuringly, “From the information I’ve gathered, she likes you back just as much. And from the footage I went through from last night, I’d say she feels the same about you.”
“Thanks, Traps.” Catra grins as she sits upright a little more, “Oh, here she comes!”
Entrapta turns around and spots Adora, the blonde is dressed in a pair of grey slacks and a nice white button up shirt, “Well, what are you waiting for? Go and get her.”
“I will.” Catra says a little irritated, “Let me just… just finish my drink.”
Adora looks around and immediately spots Catra in her black suit with a red tie by the bar, a smile appears on her face as she starts to make her way towards the magicat when her view is obstructed by a monster of a woman. The blonde looks up and sees a large and muscular woman grinning down at her and Adora can’t help but stutter under her presence, “Oh, uh… sorry, I was just… uh…”
“It’s fine.” The large woman smirks, flexing her muscles, knowing exactly what she’s doing to the blonde, “I’m Roxy. And you are?”
“A-Adora.” Adora replies with hearts in her eyes at this new person, “It’s… It’s nice to meet you.”
“Likewise.” Roxy replies as she steps aside so Adora can get around her, “Say, can I buy you a drink, Adora?”
“Uh… sure.” Adora replies still a little dopey.
“No problems, Adora.” Roxy grins, “Any requests?”
Adora shrugs, unable to think, before saying, “Whatever you’re having?”
Roxy laughs, “Okay, I’ll be right back.”
Adora stays rooted to the spot as she watches Roxy walk away, not even noticing Catra coming towards her until the magicat is practically in front of her, “Oh, hey Catra.”
“Adora.” Catra greets back flatly, looking in the direction of the blonde’s gaze and then sighs, “Can I get you a drink?”
“Uh…” Adora turns her head to the magicat, “No thanks.”
“Okay.” Catra nods, standing next to the blonde awkwardly, unable to draw Adora’s attention away from the hulk of a woman getting 2 drinks at the bar, the magicat clears her throat, “So, about dinner…?”
“Huh? What?” Adora turns her attention back to Catra, “Did you say something?”
Catra shakes her head, “No. I didn’t say anything.”
“Oh, okay.” Adora says as her eyes go back to Roxy who is making her way back with 2 drinks.
“Here you go.” Roxy hands over a glass to the blonde, “Hope you like whisky and coke.”
“Thank you.” Adora smiles back as she takes a sip and suppresses a grimace at the taste, Roxy watches the blonde as she takes a sip as well.
Roxy eyes the magicat next to Adora, “Hello? Have we met?”
“I don’t think so.” Catra replies.
“Oh, okay.” Roxy says turning her attention back to Adora, “So, Adora. What brings you here? You definitely aren’t a regular.”
“Neither are you…” Catra mutters under her breath as she gently touches Adora’s elbow, “Have a good night, Adora. Let me know if you need a lift home or anything.”
Adora turns her head to Catra, “Wait, where are you going?”
“Traps and I still have stuff to work on.” Catra lies, holding back a wince once saying it, “Have a good night.”
And with that, Catra turns around and heads back towards Entrapta still seated at the bar as the blonde stares after her.
Roxy watches as well, “Who is that?”
“That’s… That’s Catra.” Adora replies as she feels a hand on her shoulder and looks up at Roxy, “She’s my friend. We live in the same building.”
The larger woman chuckles, “Just friends?”
“Yeah…?”
“Okay.” Roxy shrugs, “I don’t want to get in between girlfriends or anything.”
“I only met her last night.” Adora admits biting her bottom lip as she glances over at Catra slumped over the bar as her friend talks to her in great exaggeration, “She’s really sweet.”
Roxy turns around and looks at the magicat and chuckles, “Sweet doesn’t get girls, does it?”
Adora stares back at the large woman and frowns, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“She’s not exactly swimming in chicks, is she?” Roxy takes another glance over at Catra, “Oh well, so, not a girlfriend, huh?”
“Fuck, I knew it was too good to be true.” Catra grumbles into her arms as Entrapta tries to make her feel better, “What was I even thinking? She’s completely out of my league…”
“There, there.” Entrapta pats Catra on the shoulder.
Roxy laughs, “So, there I was, in front of crowd, and everyone’s cheering for me to knock this other girl out and take the win when all of a sudden she throws sand in my face and sucker punches me.”
Adora chuckles half heartedly, it’s been a while and Roxy has spent the entire time talking about herself, “That’s… that’s not nice.”
“Not nice is one way to put it!” Roxy laughs out once more, “Good thing she was stupid enough to be so close to me that I managed to grab her and then floor her, before shoving a fistful of sand back into her face and making her eat a mouthful of it.”
“Ha…” Adora tries to stay light despite how bored she is and then tries to think of a way to get out of this conversation, “I’m going to the bathroom.”
“Oh, I’ll come with.” Roxy stands up with Adora.
“No!” Adora almost shouts out, “It’s fine. I’ll be right back.”
“Nonsense.” Roxy brushes the comment off, “I need to go too.”
The look on Roxy face gives away her true intentions as Adora gulps down, really not wanting this to go further, “Uh, why don’t you go first then?”
Roxy grins wider, “We can go together. No big deal.”
Adora looks around, “It’s… it’s fine. I can stay so we can keep this table…”
“Fuck the table.” Roxy replies uncaringly, “Actually, now that I think about fucking… the bathroom sounds pretty good right now…”
“Don’t you fucking dare fuck in the bathroom.” Catra steps in as she growls out the words angrily.
“And who the fuck are you? I can fuck whoever I want in the bathroom. It’s none of your fucking business.” Roxy stands up to her full height, towering over the magicat trying to intimidate her, “Walk away, friend.”
“I’m not your friend, jackass.” Catra growls back, not taking a step back.
“Do you know who I am?” Roxy glares down at the magicat, “Because if you don’t get out of my way so me and my girl…”
“I’m not your girl.” Adora scoffs out, “I just wanted to go to the bathroom.”
Roxy smirks again and then looks at Catra, “See? We just want to use the bathroom.”
“No. Get out, jackass.” Catra hisses out to the hulk of a woman towering over her, “Be glad I’m not banning you for being such a sleazebag.”
“How dare you speak to me like that.” Roxy huffs out, “I’m going to have this place shut down so fast…”
“No, you’re not.” Catra crosses her arms over her chest, “Now, leave. I’m not going to tell you again.”
“Or what?” Roxy challenges, lightly shoving Catra, “What are you going to do, kitty?”
“Don’t touch me.” Catra grits out, “Get out of here.”
“No. I think I’m going to take Adora to the bathroom with me now.” Roxy reaches out and wraps her fingers around Adora’s wrists, tugging the blonde forward, “Hope your walls are thick.”
Adora manages to shrug out of the large woman’s grip as Catra shoves Roxy back and then gets her into an arm lock, the large woman yelps out in both surprise and a little pain as her arm is twisted behind her back, “Oh, did I forget to mention that I also double as security for this place? No? Also, my friend Traps has you on video and will send it out to every bar and venue that serves any type of alcohol to ban you if you don’t leave now.”
The threat seems to work as Catra shoves Roxy forward and towards the exit, standing back threateningly with her claws and teeth on show. The other woman sneers back, gives Catra the finger and finally leaves.
Catra breathes out in relief at having dealt with that, turning around and yelping in surprise at how close Adora is behind her, “What the fuck, princess? Don’t sneak up on me!”
“Sorry!” Adora quickly apologizes and takes a step back, “I didn’t mean to scare you…”
“You didn’t scare me.” Catra tries to brush the lie off before she looks up at Adora, “Are you good?”
“Yes. Thank you, again.” Adora sheepishly says, “I thought last night was bad but that… was worse.”
Catra nods, “Look. If you’re into hulking huge women, I know one who’s not a jackass if you’re interested.”
“What?” Adora says perplexed at the offer, “Why would I…?”
“Huntara’s a good friend of mine and I’m pretty sure you two would get along.” Catra says, “She’d probably talk your ear off about body building or protein powders or her workout regime.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Adora asks furrowing her brows.
“I get it.” Catra shrugs, “You’re the light. I’m just not the spark. It’s fine. I’m not your type.”
“That…”
“Don’t worry, princess.” Catra shrugs again, “We can still be friends if you want.”
“Cat, no, wait…” Adora starts to say when Catra turns to walk away, the blonde reaching out, managing to wrap two fingers around the magicat’s wrist, “I don’t want to be friends.”
The statement makes Catra’s heart drop, of course she doesn’t want to be friends… her head thinks, why would someone, so bright as Adora even want to hang out with someone like her? It makes no sense…
Adora pulls Catra back a few steps, moving around so she can look the magicat in the eyes as Catra sighs, “That’s… yeah… I… okay, yeah…”
“No, you idiot.” Adora rolls her eyes, “I want to be your light and I need you to be my spark.”
“Say what?”
Adora giggles, “Ask me again.”
“Ask you what?” Catra crinkles her brows back as Adora smiles, waiting patiently for the magicat’s question.
“You know what. Ask me again.” Adora repeats.
“Uh…” Catra scratches behind her ear and then it finally comes to her, the magicat takes a deep breath in and turns to the blonde, “Adora, would you like to have dinner with me?”
“Yes!” Adora replies enthusiastically, pulling Catra in for a hug and then pressing her lips onto the magicat’s cheek, “Yes.”
“Fuck… you’re acting like I just proposed to you…” Catra blushes as Adora just beams back at her.
“Maybe later.” Adora replies and Catra’s jaw hits the floor, “Now, can we get dinner now? Because I am starving!”
