Sports Festival pt. 6
1v1 battles.
Holy Hell Hitoshi was nervous. And in his humble opinion he had a right to be when he saw the bracket for who was going to go against who.
Shiozaki Ibara vs. Sero Hanta
Todoroki Shouto vs. Kaminari Denki
Bakugou Katsuki vs. Aoyama Yuuga
Tokoyami Fumikage vs. Uraraka Ochako
Yaoyorozu Momo vs. Kirishima Eijirou
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu vs. Hatsume Mei
Iida Tenya vs. Monoma Neito
Ashido Mina vs. Shinsou Hitoshi
He was against one of his classmates! And it was Mina none the less. Mina who knew his quirk, had an acid based quirk, and boasted about the 3 years of dance she did.
His biggest trump card was out of the window. His quirk worked the best with the element of surprise but with that gone it would be even harder to get Mina to answer him.
Well, at least his fight was last. That was both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because he would get to watch his classmates do their best, a curse because it gave him all the more time to spiral into his own thoughts.
Hitoshi shook his head and just reminded himself of what Dadzawa or Yamadad would say right about now. He would even take some of Rogue's shitty advice right about now.
With a sigh he made his way back to the Class 1A stands where the entire class minus Sero was seated.
Oh, and not to mention that the Momiko family was seated next to Todoroki sharing giggles and whispered conversation. Hitoshi's eyes rose when he saw Todoroki bravely lace his and Momiko's hand together.
If Momiko Hisashi really was Rogue Dadzawa was going to hate that right there. Well, not more than he would hate Hitoshi's crush on Kaminari.
Hitoshi sat down in the seat that was the farthest away from most of the class while he watched Shiozaki-san's and Sero's fight. It was just about to begin so all conversation came to a halt while Midnight explained the rules.
As soon as Midnight waved her little flag Shiozaki-san's vines shot forward in an attempt to quickly push Sero out of bounds. Her plan was clearly to make it go as fast as possible.
Sero had other plans though.
He produced a bit of tape and used it to glue Shiozaki-san's vines together before he did a move reminiscent to spider man and flung himself over the wall of now immobile vines.
Shiozaki-san sent two more waves of vines only to get the same outcome from Sero before she changed her plan. Instead she started sending out a vine at a time, they struck similarly to snakes.
Sero defended himself to the best of his ability but his tape ended up not being enough to counteract Shiozaki-san. One vine finally got a good grip around his waist when he tried to do his jump and he was flung out of bounds.
Needless to say Shiozaki won that fight.
Out of the corner of his eye Hitoshi saw the Momiko family wish Todoroki good luck and Hitoshi made sure to wish Kaminari good luck.

Todoroki and Kaminari showed up on the makeshift battle area not too long later and they listened to Midnight once again explain the rules before she yelled for them to start while waving her flag.
Todoroki evidently wasn't going to take any chances with Kaminari's quirk and it's potential to react badly with his ice. The minute that Midnight yelled start he sent out a huge glacier that engulfed Kaminari.
Only Kaminari's head was visible, the rest of his body was frozen.
Poor Kaminari didn't stand a chance.

Bakugou and Aoyama were up next.
This battle should prove to be an interesting one, although it was abundantly clear who would be the victor. It wouldn't be surprising if this round closely resembled the last.
Midnight explained the rules once again, she was legally obligated to do so before each match to make sure that the school didn't get sued.
As soon as she yelled start Bakugou set of a flurry of explosions and propelled himself towards Aoyama.
Aoyama quickly let off a weak laser burst in hopes of clipping Bakugou and throwing off his momentum while minimizing his stomach ache.
Bakugou however, barely reacted. He just dodged the beam before grabbing Aoyama by his hair and flipping him out of bounds.
The match didn't even last a minute.
The old Bakugou would've counted it as an empty victory but the new Bakugou knew that he did what he had to do to win as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Tokoyami vs Uraraka was going to be evenly matched. Tokoyami and Dark Shadow were good defense while Uraraka's quirk was good for offense.
Midnight sped through the rules and both students got ready to fight.
The first move was made by Tokoyami. He sent forward a already weakened Dark Shadow, due to the blaring sun overhead, to try and drive Uraraka back.
Uraraka tried to get her hands on the shadow bird but Dark Shadow expertly avoided her hands and kept his angle to try and trip up the girl instead.
The fight drug on like that for a good few minutes with neither of the opponents being able to overpower the other. Since neither quirk created debris Uraraka didn't have an advantage and Dark Shadow was weakening by the minute due to overuse in such bright lighting.
They were nearing the time limit on the now endurance match when Tokoyami stumbled. He had already been pushed back far enough by Uraraka so when she made him stumble he fell out of bounds.
It was truly a match of endurance and both students were good sports afterwards.
*
Yaoyorozu's match against Kirishima had a similar feel to it as the previous match. It just felt like it was going to be an endurance match.
And that's exactly how it happened. Once Midnight had signally the start Yaoyorozu just made a full body shield along with an escrima stuck that was electrically charged.
Kirishima hardened his skin and started his onslaught of an attack. Yaoyorozu used her shield to effectively stop him from causing her harm. They danced around each other for at least three minutes before Yaoyorozu spotted her opening.
When Kirishima had to soften his skin to avoid quirk overuse or bodily harm to himself Yaoyorozu rushed forward and stuck him with her escrima stick. The stick caused Kirishima's muscles to lock and the redhead fell to the ground unable to move.
The match ended after it was proven that he wasn't getting up anytime soon.
*
Tetsutetsu vs. Hatsume was a joke. The boy had readily agreed to help Hatsume show off her products to the audience.
And when time ran low Hatsume simply stepped out of the ring.
*
The last match before it was Hitoshi's turn was Iida vs. Monoma. Both students were strong in their own right and if Monoma had picked his quirk right the match could be over quickly.
Midnight signalled the start and apparently nothing happened at first. Iida looked as if he made the first move, he revved up the engines on his legs and shot towards Monoma.
Only he was stopped short.
Monoma had copied Honenki's quirk and softened the ground in a five foot radius around him. Iida was immediately stuck knee deep in the cement and Monoma reversed the quirk's affect. So now Iida was immovably stuck in the hardened cement.
The match drew to a close after that.

Hitoshi was nervous. Scratch that he was beyond nervous when he walked out onto the field. The only strategy he had to beat Mina was to find some well known vine that started out as a question.
It was already common knowledge that her and the 'Bakusqaud' were memesters and total crackheads so if he found a good enough vine then Mina should respond like it was second nature to her.
"I'm sure I don't have to explain the rules too thoroughly to you kiddos, but I still gotta remind ya'!" Midnight cheered before she went through the rules of the match for the eighth time that day. Sadly enough she would have to do it many more times today.
Midnight finally signalled the start of the match and the students rushed at one another. Mina skated forward on her acid and Hitoshi ran just far enough forward that if she tried to fling her acid at him it would hurt him way too badly.
Mina was also known for her huge guilty conscience when it came to hurting fellow classmates.
Hitoshi knew he would only have one shot to try and get Mina to answer to a vine so his mind raced as he had to keep dodging her attacks.
He was hit with a burst of inspiration and hurriedly yelled out,
"HURRICANE KATRINA?"
"MORE LIKE HURRICANE TORTILLA!" Mina yelled back with a snort. She immediately knew where she went wrong though because her shoulders slumped in defeat as Hitoshi's quirk took hold.
Shinsou Hitoshi was moving to the second round.
