Just a Casual Trip to the Aquarium
Kirari stood in rapt attention at the multitudes of fish darting around the glass and each other, caught in a controlled dance. It was easy to spot the green arowana as it swiftly darted between a few schools of gar and spotted knifefish. It was certainly an active fish---pent up and demanding. A shame the rest of these fish were handpicked for an orderly environment. The arowana demanded compliance and frequently challenged other fish the longer the two of them stood there.
“Are you aware, Sayaka, that the asian arowana is a carnivore? It’s practically a relic and yet it still commands the tank.” Kirari placed a hand against the glass, adjusting herself to get a closer look at some of the fish hiding inside the grasses. “Funnily enough, it carries its brood of eggs inside its mouth for safety. There’s something beautiful in that irony alone. Wouldn’t you say, Sayaka?”
Kirari’s head turned to see what her secretary was being so silent for, but then she understood. Sayaka was crouched down and squinting to get a closer look at the infographics pertaining to the tank’s fish, unable to see properly. Her contacts still hadn’t been put in this morning, but perfectly acceptable glasses sat dormant in the girl’s purse.
A flash of a smile ghosted over Kirari’s lips just thinking about it. It was so interesting how, simply because Kirari suggested otherwise, she would be made to suffer...just to please Kirari.
“Of course, it’s such a shame the arowana can’t truly be challenged here. It would need a large enough tank to house its competition, as well as be large enough so it couldn’t escape. They’re quite the notorious jumpers…”
Sayaka gave Kirari a small smile, yet seemed confused. “You sure know a lot about them, Madam President.”
A chuckle escaped between her blue lips, nails tapping against the arowana’s infographic card. “All the information is right here, Sayaka. Besides...we’re not just here to educate ourselves about fish.”
At that moment, a net shot through the water, deftly catching the green arowana. There was no explanation as Kirari started to meander over to another exhibit.
“W-wait…. Did you just--How can you buy--? This is an aquarium!” Sayaka was left with no answers.
