Chapter 8
Everyone was playing Monopoly at Lena's request. However, no one could have predicted that Lena would lose.
"How?!" Alex was shouting.
"You're the CEO of L-Corp, how can you lose a game like this?" Nia laughed.
"I don't know." Lena said quietly. She, too, was confused. She had chosen Monopoly because she thought she would be good at it, unlike some of the other games that they had played. "I'm going to get another drink." She stood up and walked to the kitchen.
Kara followed her. "You're just distracted." She whispered to Lena.
"I know." Lena said.
Just then, J'onn walked over to them. "Lena, may I hug you?" He asked, softly.
"Um...ok." Lena was confused. He hugged her before he explained himself.
"You are family, Lena. As family, we love you no matter what. You don't have to be afraid to tell us."
"You read my thoughts, didn't you?" Lena realised.
"I promise you I didn't mean to. In fact, as a general rule, I actively try not to. Your thoughts were just so loud that I couldn't block them out." He felt guilty. "But I mean what I said, Lena. You are family and we all love you. Always remember that."
"Thank you, J'onn."
Alex was being nosy. "What are they whispering about over there?" She asked Kelly, Nia and Brainy.
"I'm not sure." Brainy stated. "I cannot seem to predict this." He was confused.
"It might be what they were talking about earlier." Kelly suggested. They all wanted to know what the conversation was about, but Kelly managed to convince them not to ask when Lena, Kara and J'onn returned.
