Baby steps

Third POV

Dr. Kim Seokjin was sitting in his clinic finishing some paper work and updating his patients' files, he kept watching the clock waiting for the clock arrows to reach 7 pm so he can wrap his things and head home, it was very tiring day.

Seokjin loves all his patients and there is no doubt in that but some days are rough than the others and this day was so exhausting; most of his patients were new so he had to establish a good relationship with them so they can feel comfortable around him and trust him. For Seokjin, trust is the key for accepting treatment and being rewarded with those adorable smiles and happy faces.

"Just 10 more minutes and I will go home" Jin thought finishing his last file and saving any data on his computer before pulling his phone to see if he had got any new messages.

He found most of them from Tae begging for him to get him ice cream in his way back home which made Jin smile. He told him dozen of times that he won't get those junky things that will make his stomach hurt at the end reminding  him that he is a doctor and candies are doctors' first enemies; but his youngest dongsaeng would pout and say that he is not a child to be hurt from ice cream to which Jin shake his head and walk of laughing leaving Tae to go whine to Yoongi or Hobi to get him ice cream.

He was about to answer him when he heard the nurse who has been working with him since the first day of the clinic shout his name accompanied by baby cries. Jin harried out of his office bracing himself for whatever he is going to see. No matter how many years he has been working as a pediatrician, the sight of sick children will always ache his heart; that's why he chose this job to try and cure their illness and comfort those with chronic diseases.

He hurried quickly outside to find the nurse in front of his office door carrying a crying baby. He hurried to them seeing if there's any thing wrong with the baby that made his nurse shout like that.

"Nurse Yeona, what's wrong with him, why are you shouting, and where's his parents?" He asked her trying to play with the baby to make him stop crying.

"Dr.Kim, I don't know I found him on the clinic front stairs, I heard crying and found him in his carriage " she told him with wide eyes and Jin looked at her with panicked eyes.

"Was there anything with him in the carriage?"

"I don't know, I will go see now" she told him giving him the baby and Jin took him gently carrying him to one of the examination rooms.

Jin tried to comfort the baby who was crying hardly looking around him with wide scared eyes; Jin brought the baby to his chest making his head rest on his chest while swaying lightly humming comforting lullaby. He found by experience that this method always works with scared children especially babies like him, it provides the baby with warmth and comfort also hearing the steady heart beat makes him feel secured and safe, and very soon the baby settled to sniffles and hiccups curling his very small fingers around Jin's shirt.

Nurse yeona knocked and opened the door carefully to not startle the baby after hearing quiet "come in" from Jin.

"I didn't find anything except this note and his blanket" she told him giving him the items cradling her hand through his soft hair. She read the note and she felt anger and sympathetic emotions over her body, thinking about what this small innocent one had to go through made her want to cry and to hide him.

Seikjin gently arranged the baby _who started to whimper and got years again thinking that Jin will leave him _ so that he can sit side way on his lab but his head still on his chest while sneaking hand around the small body to steady him and the baby calmed again, then he took the note from the nurse noticing that it was written on worn out tangled paper and read it.
"DR. Kim, please take care of my child. I know it's something strange but me and my husband can't keep him. It wasn't in our intention to have him and my husband is abusive and hurt him a lot so I managed to bring him to you. I can't leave my husband and I know you are capable of taking care of him. His name is jungkook and he is 11 has months. Thank you."

Jin's POV

After reading it, I   felt myself become anger how they just abandon their son like that, he is innocent he didn't do anything wrong yet he is taking the punishment for irresponsible parents; my heart is filled with sympathy for this poor child who barley has a year old.  There are many children like Jungguk around the world and I wish I can save them all from their fate, this problem really affect them later and the only one to blame are the parents but wait did she mentioned abuse?

I felt my stomach sink when I just thought about what this monster did to his own son. I was about to check on him when I noticed that the he started whimpering and sucking furiously on his little thumb.

He was hungry.

I looked at the nurse who quickly understood and went to get some milk for him. Our clinic always stocked up with emergency items such as bottles, milk, pacifiers...etc just in case so it wasn't hard to get him milk quickly.

The nurse came back 10 minutes with warm milk and gave it to me and I  tilted and  adjusted him so I can feed him properly and started feeding him after double checking the temperature. The small child sucked very quickly breaking my heart and I'm sure nurse yeona's too; I had to remove the bottle a few times so that the baby won't choke. After being fed and burped, he fell in a peaceful sleep while I was  admiring his cute features thinking about what I will do with him.

I looked to the clock and then looked to the nurse. "Nurse yeona, you should go home before it gets more late"

The nurse looked at the clock finding that it's nearly 8. When did the time pass?. She looked at the boy in my hand and seemed hesitated.

"Don't worry about him, I will take care of him"

"You won't give him to an orphanage, right?" She asked and I knew what she means, she was scared that he won't get the proper care and welfare that he deserves and as he lived with abusive parents, he won't be able to trust anyone else; him trusting me was something strange but I guess it's a gift in me that children trusts me quickly.

"Don't worry I won't send him, well at least till I figure what to do" I told her with reassuring smile and she smiled a little kissing the baby's forehead before greeting me and got out of the clinic.

I stared more at jungguk not knowing what to do but I was sure that I won't send him to the orphanage now or ever, I suddenly felt protective for him I wanted to give him the life he needed but can I really raise a child? And what abouty friends will they accept him? I was pulled out of my thoughts when my phone rang.

Baby bear....it was Tae

"Hello"

"Hyuunng where are you all that?"

"Sorry Tae" and he paused a little " Tae can you come to my clinic"

"Uhh yeah sure...I'll be there in 15"

I need someone with me to get some supplies for the baby and the best one to deal with children is definitely Tae, he often come to the clinic and pretend to be a nurse to play and entertain the children, they adore him  so  he is the best to deal with jungguk now.

I typed the room number and told him to be quiet when he comes, the last thing I need is for him to scare Kookie again. True to his words not even 15 minutes and he was here.

"Hyung you there" he said opening the door. "OMG!!! who is this cute one? Why are you alone with him I didn't see his parents when I came?" He asked looked confused.

I sighed and explained the whole situation to him and as soon as I finished, Tae has tears in his eyes. "I can't understand how people can just do it while other people are dying for having a child"

"I know Tae I'm really angry and upset too and that's why orphanages and adoption is there so those parents can have the chance to have a child"

" I know but not all of them get that great ca...wait do you mean that you will send him there?!" Tae asked almost shouting.

"No no....this wasn't in my intention but I don't know if we are capable of raising him and what the others will say? "

"Hyung, I know jiminie and Hobi hyung will be happy, Namjoon and yoongi hyungs will need more persuasion but they will agree and look at him he is totally cute and adorable"

" I know I really hope they won't freak out...till we take our last decision, he will stay with us and we need to go get him some supplies from child center"

"Yes!! The baby will live with us" Tae said in enthusiasm moving his hands on the baby tummy but removed it quickly when the he started wincing in discomfort we just thought he wants to sleep so gently and quietly we got out to Tae's care after locking the office and I left my car in front of the office. I  would make Namjoon drive me before going to his company.

I gave jungguk to Tae to hold him while I drove to the child center.

"I will go get the needed supply while you stay here, if anyone saw him in his state, they will call the police or say that we kidnaped him or send him to call child service"

"Okay don't worry" Tae said moving his fingers on the baby little features and giggles when the baby opened his mouth to suck on his fingers when he brushed it over his lips. So much cuteness.

15 minutes later after getting what we mostly need, I came back and put the items in the car and getting into driver seat again luckily finding that the baby is still asleep. I drove us back home opening the door for us to enter.

"Welcome home, baby" I heard Tae whispers then heard gasping from the living room.

Time for some explanation.
