Anticipation
Rays of light slipped through the cracks of the blinds in Uraraka’s room, illuminating the room with irregular spots of sunshine. As the sun shone on her eyes, she rubbed the sleep away and sat up. Wearily, she glanced over at the digital clock perched on her bedside table and read the time that was shown.
07:40
‘Lessons are starting soon. I should probably get ready and make my way there.’ She thought as she walked over to her dresser.
After she put her UA uniform on, the time on her clock read ‘07:52’. She decided it would be beneficial to go down to the dorm’s common room and get some breakfast. Packing up her bag, she picked up her phone and scrolled through notifications. Nothing stood out to her except a message from a certain girl with a frog quirk.
Tsu: Hey Ochako-chan. Tonight after school at 8 o’clock meet me in the park we usually go to. [00:32]
The brown haired female read the message multiple times to make sure it said what she had read.
‘Tsu wants to meet me at that park? But we haven’t been there in a while...’ Pondering while walking down the stairs, she wasn’t paying attention to her surroundings and walked straight into the side of her angry blond haired classmate.
“Watch where you’re walking round face!” He shouted at her, obviously angered that she had her nose stuck in her phone and not watching where she was walking.
“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry Bakugo-kun! I was just distracted by something haha...” She knew she had to choose her words carefully. After all, Bakugo was like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. Using the wrong words could end your life right there and then. Uraraka knew Bakugo would never actually harm his classmates- besides from Deku- because, even though he would never admit to it, he did care.
“Yeah well maybe if you didn’t have your face stuck in your phone you’d be paying attention to who you walked into!”
Bakugo ignited his hands, making small explosions in a threatening manner. Even though Uraraka knew he wouldn’t actually hurt her, she was still wary of the boy’s quirk after seeing the display of his strength during the Sports Festival. Luckily, before either could say anything else, Kirishima walked over to the pair and interrupted their conversation.
“Hey Kat! Morning Uraraka!” He said with a smile on his face. No matter what time of the day or night it was, Kirishima always managed to brighten anyone’s day with his cheerful demeanour.
“Tch. You’re lucky he’s here now otherwise you’d be dead.”
Everyone in their class knew Bakugo and Kirishima had been dating for a couple weeks now. They constantly hung out with each other during and after school, usually eating lunch together and studying together at nights.
Many in their class were accepting of their relationship and didn’t criticise them but Uraraka was afraid that it wouldn’t be the same for her. Recently, she found out she was bisexual and had a crush on one of her female classmates- Tsuyu Asui. She was afraid what people would think if she told them. After all, it was pretty obvious that at the start of the first school year she harboured feelings for Deku, and at one point they were an item, but over time she eventually lost interest. What if people weren’t as accepting for her case?
During class more thoughts filled Uraraka’s mind- mainly around Tsuyu and why she asked to meet at the park. Due to their work in the hero course they haven’t had time to hang out as often, especially since internships have made them busier than ever. However, Uraraka and Tsuyu did internship under the same pro hero, Ryukyu, which meant they were together most days when they were interning. Perhaps this led to Uraraka’s feelings towards the frog girl.
Since Uraraka was overthinking, she wasn’t paying attention. 10 minutes had passed and the rest of the class were reading an amount of pages from a book Aizawa had set them.
“Uraraka can you summarise what happens on page 155?” Aizawa asked her, fully aware she had been spacing out.
At this question, Uraraka’s head shot up, making her chair tip back nearly falling over. Surprised, she shrieked and grabbed her desk, keeping herself upright. Everyone immediately looked at her, shooting weird glances her way.
“Oh um... page 155?” She flipped through her textbook to the stated page and skim read it quickly. “Um well...”
“Next time pay attention instead of zoning out in the middle of class. You should be listening in class considering your grades.”
“Y-yeah. Sorry Mr Aizawa.” She replied, embarrassed that she was caught thinking about other subjects during the lesson.
This was going to be a long day.
————————————————————————
The first half of the day dragged on and Aizawa constantly had to remind Uraraka to focus in the lessons. Many of her classmates noticed this as it was outside of her usual behaviour, especially the girl who was the subject of her thoughts. Lunch eventually came and Uraraka decided to eat her lunch at her classroom desk instead of hanging around with her usual group. A few students were scattered in the classroom such as Aoyama, Shoji and others who normally ate alone or preferred to eat in a quiet place. Uraraka was taking her lunch out of her bag when Tsuyu approached her at her desk.
“Hey Ochako-chan. Are you alright? You’re not sitting with us like you usually do.” Tsuyu asked Uraraka, since they usually sat together at lunch with the rest of the Deku squad. Upon hearing her voice Uraraka tensed up, as she was the subject of her thoughts at that moment.
“Oh um...” She could feel blood rushing up to her cheeks as she looked at the girl stood in front of her. “I just uh wanted to eat somewhere more peaceful.”
The truth was that she didn’t want to be near Tsuyu for the moment while she was figuring out her own feelings. She didn’t want them to be offended that she didn’t want to sit with them. After all, she’d rather have them all sit together and have fun and not have that spoiled by her. Her feelings were confusing her and so was the text she received from Tsuyu this morning. It was confusing as to why she wanted to meet up with her in the first place. They only really got to spend time with each other at school which made them distant at times. However, her feelings towards the female were obviously strong but she was unsure whether her feelings were reciprocated.
Tsuyu figured that Uraraka wanted to sit alone so she nodded in understanding and left to go sit with the others, leaving Uraraka with her complicated thoughts. As Tsuyu was walking away, Uraraka half-face-planted-half-rested-her-head on her desk, thinking about what she was going to do about her feelings. However, this did not go unnoticed by a certain hot-headed member of the class.
Soon their allocated time for lunch was over and they went back to lessons. Aizawa constantly had to remind Uraraka to focus as she could never answer the questions he asked her correctly. Throughout the lessons, Uraraka would glance Tsuyu’s way multiple times, still pondering about how she would resolve her issue. Some of those times Tsuyu would look back at her, causing Uraraka to become flustered and losing her focus again.
Eventually the bell rang, signalling the end of the school day. Uraraka was relieved as this meant she could go back to the dorms and spend all night in her room - maybe all weekend too if she felt like it.
She couldn’t wait for the afternoon to be over.
