Learning to Fly
Izuku was excited for her first training session with Hawks. She had altered one of her shirts to tie around her neck and attach it to her lower back. She had bought a specialized sports bra, so her back was bare for her wings to come in. She was hoping he’d be able to answer some of her questions along with learning how to fly.
“Hey there Eyas, I heard you needed some help with your quirk” Hawks gave the girl one of his trademark grins. He had been ordered by the commission to train the girl, but they didn’t explain why.
“Yeah, did they tell you why?” She quirked her head to the side, making Hawks want to coo at her. He held back though, humans don’t make noises like that.
“Nope.” Hawks answered, popping the P
“Ah, so basically, I can make a permanent copy of quirks I interact with unless they're genetically related to me. However, the quirk is at the same level as a child; I can increase its power by training. The more I train, the more it levels up.” Izuku explained to the winged hero.
Hawks had to hold back his horror for the girl. No wonder the commission wanted her under their thumb. A quirk like that…he didn’t even want to think of the repercussions. Guess it was a good thing her mother was the Crimson Viper. Even the commission didn’t want to challenge her.
“I’m guessing one of the quirks you copied is Fierce Wing?” Hawks asked.
“Yep,” Izuku said, popping the P before activating the quirk.
Hawks had to hold back a gasp as the girl changed into a green image of his quirk. Her wings were emerald with black highlights, along with her hair. Her eyes changed to a brighter, more yellow-green similar to his; she gained black markings on her face. Her canines were sharper along with her fingers, and her feet had become more curved and sharp.
“Ok, I was not expecting how far the copy went.” Hawks had the same features as her, but the commission had cut away anything that could cause fear.
“Neither was I; we were so busy testing my quirk at camp that we didn’t realize just how far your hawk mutation went.” Izuku chirped in excitement. She wanted to ask him why he didn’t seem to look like her but felt he may avoid the question.
Hawks had to hold back a responding chirp. Damn his instincts, they were already trying to adopt the kid as his chick along with Tokoyami. It didn’t help that she looked like a fluffier version of his quirk. He just wanted to store her away in his nest and keep her safe.
“Hawks” She chirped, snapping him out of his thoughts.
“Right, sorry about that Eyas got lost in thought for a second. How far have you gotten with the feathers?” Hawks needed to know her starting point.
“Well, I can sharpen the feathers at will and sort of move them but not very far. It’s hard to concentrate with all the information that comes in. I can sort of hover off the ground for a few seconds, but I haven’t been able to fly yet.” Izuku explained to the older hawk…these instincts were peculiar; they were telling her he was a brother/parent. Something else too, but she wasn’t sure what it was yet.
“Can you show me how you hover to start with?” The kid was already farther along with his quirk than he was when he started out.
Izuku nodded her head. Taking a deep breath and gently flapping her wings. She felt her feet lift from the ground and tried to maintain the place she was in. She tried going higher or turning but with no luck before she roughly landed.
“Your first problem is you’re too tense. You need to relax your wings and focus less on trying to get airborne. The second thing is you have to feel the air currents and move with them, not against them.” Hawks explained to the Eyas.
“How do I do that.” Izuku tilted her head in confusion.
“I have an idea…do you trust me?” Hawks asked the girl flying above her and holding his arms down to her for her to grab.
“Yep,” Izuku chirped, grabbing his arms and spreading her wings out as Hawks took off with the two of them.
He flew through the air feeling for a particular current; when he sensed it coming, he looked down at his Eyas before grinning wide.
“Remember what I said about feeling the air current, kid.” He reminded before letting her go.
Izuku released a silent scream spreading her wings wide and flapping them in fear. What was he thinking? She could—wait; what was that? It felt kind of nice. She followed the feeling of the current righting herself in the air. She flapped her wings along with the current before gliding.
She looked around to see Hawks flying next to her. Flying, she was flying! She let out some excited chirps, joy overwhelming her. Hawks responded to her chirps. His sounded slightly awkward like he didn’t get to chirp too often.
Another problem to ask him about. First, they needed to land so they could work on the other aspects of Fierce wing.
