07. Too Cool For School
episode two , woe is the loneliest number
WEDNESDAY'S BLACK high tops stomped lightly against the cobblestone floor, Josephine trailing right next to her. Josephine's boots tapping lightly against the cobblestone. Wednesday knocked on the door, Josephine stood outside. Wednesday entered and left the door ever so slightly cracked, so that Josephine could hear.
"I need to speak with Rowan. I can't find him." Wednesday spoke clearly, as she spoke inside of Weems' office.
"It won't be possible, I'm afraid. He's been expelled." Weems spoke as she typed quietly on her computer.
"What for?" Wednesday asked as she raised an eyebrow. Josephine, who had been listing, made a note to explain that Weems was an outcast, a shapeshifter to be specific.
"Never you mind. He'll be on the first train out this afternoon." Weems spoke vaguely. The older woman looked up from her computer with a critic eye. "What were you and Miss Monroe, doing out in the woods with him?" Weems investigated.
"I told you already. I heard a noise, and I went to investigate." Wednesday spoke, her lie never faltering. Weems scoffed as she looked at the younger girl, nearly seventeen years old.
"That excuse might have placated the sheriff, but you can't fool me." Weems said as she gave Wednesday a look before sighing. "You had a psychic vision, didn't you? I realized you might be having them when we passed by the accident and you knew that poor farmer had broken his neck. Your mother started having visions around your age. They were notoriously unreliable and dangerous. I remember at first, she thought she might be losing her mind. Have you spoken to her about them?" Wednesday just gave her a blank stare. "Clearly the person withholding information here is you." Weems concluded with a sharp glare.
"May I go now?" Wednesday asked as she looked at the older woman, she'd rather not give into her physiological trap.
"Not until you've picked your extracurricular activity. We want our students to be well-rounded." Weems spoke with a clear tone.
"I'd prefer to remain sharp-edged." Wednesday countered quickly.
"I took the liberty of putting together a list of clubs that have openings. Josephine Monroe happens to be in the nursing-club and the bee-keeping club." Weems said as she tried to sell Wednesday into making friends with other people than just Josephine (who had a spotless record).
"How thoughtful." Wednesday said blandly, but still sarcastically. Wednesday turned on her heel to leave.
"You need to have picked one by the end of the day. I'll be keeping my eye on you. No doubt you'll find something that tickles your fancy." The white haired woman spoke as she watch Wednesday turn her head to her, looking slightly peeved.
"The last person who 'tickled' me, lost a finger." Wednesday said was she walked furiously out of the office, grabbing Josephine's hand. Things sat on the brunette's shoulder, Wednesday spoke to both of them. "Weems is clearly trying to keep tabs on me.Keep an eye on Rowan. Don't let your fingers out of his sight." Wednesday spoke to Thing.
"Wednesday, Thing, Weems is a shapeshifter, so if you can't find him. She might be hiding what happened to him." Josephine sighed.
"Very well. Josephine, this is where we depart, I have to go find clubs that I," Wednesday's face showed visible signs of discomfort, "enjoy." Wednesday spoke with distaste clear in her tone. Josephine nodded and gave a quick smile. Making Wednesday almost blush. "Goodbye, Josephine." Wednesday said before quickly turning on her heel and leaving.

Wednesday and Josephine were in Botany class, next to (unfortunately) Xaiver Thorpe, who doesn't believe in gays. He thought that every girl was in love with him. Thats why Bianca had broken up with him, because he kept saying that 'asexual' people didn't really exist.
"There's an open spot next to me. If you can stand sitting that close to an elitist snob." Xavier said as he sat next to Josephine, there was an opens seat next to her as well. Wednesday rolled her eyes and walked over, she sat next to Josephine, who gave her a calm smile. She had written down the properties of the ghost orchid, and how it could be used for spiritual healing.
Xavier drew a spider and made it lift off the paper. It turned as if it was real. Wednesday just stared at it before hitting it down with her palm.
"I doubt Wednesday is impressed by your tricks, Mr. Thorpe." Miss Thornhill spoke as she walked through the class, she looked at Josephine's book, almost grabbing it.
"Admit it, you're a little impressed." Xavier spoke as Josephine glared at him. She signed rapidly to his face. "What's she saying?" Xavier asked Wednesday.
"She said what homophobes and privileged white men, shouldn't instill their unwanted options on underrepresented people." Wednesday said with almost a smirk, marking the class break out into a bunch of laughter. Xavier turned a bright color of red, embarrassed and angered in front of his new crush.
"I doubt Wednesday is impressed by your tricks, Mr. Thorpe." Miss Thornhill said with a smile, she adjusted her big glasses before looking at the class. "Can anyone tell me the name of this beauty?" Miss Thornhill asked as Josephine smiled and raised her hand. "Yes, Josie." Miss Thornhill said as Josephine cringed at the nickname."
"Dendrophylax lindenii. Otherwise known as the ghost orchid." Josephine sighted as everyone ist looked at her, most of her classmates didn't know sign.
"She said that it is called, dendrophylax lindenii. Otherwise known as the ghost orchid." Wednesday translated as Josephine gave her a smile. "It was first discovered on the Isle of Wight in 1854." Wednesday contributed.
"Very good, Wednesday, Josephine." Miss Thornhill praised and Josephine looked as if she was on cloud nine. Wednesday scowled, why didn't she always look like that? And why couldn't she make Josephine look like the sun? "You may have competition for first chair, Bianca." Miss Thornhill continued as some kids started to 'oh' and snicker. "Wednesday, perhaps you can identify the ghost orchid's greatest qualities?" Miss Thornhill asked.
"Resilience and adaptability." Josephine signed bored as Wednesday spoke the same thing she was thinking.
"It's able to thrive in even the most hostile environments." Josephine signed as Wednesday continued to translate.
"But its mere presence can change the ecosystem, causing the established plants to reject it." Bianca explained as she smiled at her upper class man. "Usually because the native species is allowed to thrive unchecked."
"Nothing a Weedwacker couldn't fix." Wednesday said with a glare.
"You can most certainly try." Bianca said in a sing-song kind of voice.
"Are we still talking about flowers?" Xavier asked, as he looked around like in imbecile. He only saw Wednesday staring at Josephine, like she hung the stars and moon in their place. Xavier's mood dampened.
"Thank you, ladies, for those illuminating insights. Clearly the plants aren't the only carnivores in class today." Miss Thornhill said as she smiled at everyone. "Now..." Miss Thornhill contoured with the lesson; but Josephine didn't pay much attention. All of her attention, was on Wednesday (who looked invested in the lesson more than Bianca, to be honest).
