Good For You

“So you found a place where the grass is greener!
And you jumped the fence to the other side!

Is it good?
Is she giving you a world I could never provide?”

Alya felt herself backing away at that last line. It was obvious Marinette was referring to Lila, who had an amazing life and stories to tell... Something Marinette didn’t.

“Well I hope you're proud of your big decision!”

Alya wasn’t so sure anymore. Earlier today, she nominated Lila for class rep, but it’s just because Lila had all of these connections, and she and the class were so sure Marinette would understand. When the results came, and all but Chloé and Nathaniel voted for Lila, Marinette stormed out of the classroom.

“Yeah, I hope it's all that you all want and more!” She wipes a few tears away.
“Now you're free from the agonizing life you were living before!”

‘No! I was happy with just you!’ Alya wanted to say, but the words just couldn’t seem to come out.

“And you say what you need to say, so that you get to walk away!” As she’s singing, Marinette pulls out her phone.
“It would kill you to have to stay trapped When you've got something new!” She shows Alya the photo she posted of her and Lila getting ice cream... The day she and Marinette were supposed to have movie night.

“Well I'm sorry I had it rough!
And I'm sorry I'm not enough!
Thank God she rescued you!”

Alya reaches for Marinette’s hand, wanting to snap her out of it and tell her that they are still friends and she does care, only for Marinette the flinch away.

“So you got what you always wanted!
So you got your dream come true!
Good for you!
Good for you, you, you!
Got a taste of a life so perfect!
So you did what you had to do!”

Cutting Marinette out of her life, spending every minute with Lila as she talked all about her journalism connections. Was it worth it?

“Good for you!
Good for you!”

With Alya stunned into silence, Marinette storms out of the locker room in tears, just as Chloé and Nathaniel walk in.

“Mari?” Chloé reaches for the bluenette, but she just runs off. She sees Alya standing across from her and the redhead, and realizes what just happened. “Oh. I see.”

Chloé approaches Alya and circles around her. “Does it cross your mind to be slightly sorry? Do you even care that you might be wrong?”

‘I can’t be wrong!’ Alya thought to herself. If she was, then Lila was a liar. And Marinette was right about everything.

“Was it fun?
Well I hope you had a blast while you dragged her along!”

“And you say what you need to say!
And you play who you need to play!
And if somebody's in your way,
crush,” Nathaniel punches a locker for emphasis, snapping Alya out of her daze. “Them and leave them behind!”

“Well I guess if she’s not of use!
Go ahead, you can cut her loose!
Go ahead now, she won't mind!”

‘Oh, she won’t mind!’ Lila’s saccharine voice repeated that over and over in Alya’s head. She’d always say that when she wanted to hang out with the class, but they had plans with Marinette that day.

“I shut my mouth and I let it go!” Marinette sang angrily to Adrien. He had the gall to once again make sure she didn’t try to expose Lila. Well enough is enough.

“Is that good for you?! Would that be good for you, you, you?!” She violently jabbed at his chest with her finger, that Adrien felt like she wanted to stab him.

“I'll just sit back while she runs the show! Is that good for you?!
Would that be good for you, you, you?!”

Their words stuck to Alya and Adrien all day. They couldn’t eat or sleep without the guilt trying to eat them alive.

Adrien didn’t know Marinette felt that way. Was he really just telling her to shut up about Lila’s lies? No, it couldn’t be.

“All I need is some time to think!
But the boat is about to sink!
Can't erase what I wrote in ink!
Tell me how could you change the story?”

Alya remembers all of the words she and the others said to Marinette when she accused Lila of lying- ‘Jealous.’ ‘Bully.’ ‘Selfish.’ But really, she deserved to be called those things, or worse. She abandoned her best friend.

“All the words that I can't take back!
Like a train coming off the track!
'Cause the rails and my bones all crack! I've got to find a way to-
Stop it, stop it! Just let me out!”

“So you got what you always wanted!
So you got your dream come true!
Good for you!
Good for you, you, you!
Got a taste of a life so perfect!

Now you say you've gone someone new! Good for you!
Good for you!
Good for you!
Good for you!
So you got what you always wanted!”
