What Are We?
Dorcas glanced up to her, playful smile appearing onto her lips, "Broom cupboard?"
"I don't want to snog you."
"What?" Dorcas immediately frowned, "Like ever again?"
Marlene's eyes widened, "No, I didn’t mean it like that. I mean I want to do more."
"Oh", Dorcas frowned deeper, "I'm not sure I'm ready for that. I always imagined being in a proper relationship beforehand, y'know doing it with someone I love."
"Right", Marlene nodded, frozen to the spot.
"You can probably find someone else, if you want."
Marlene narrowed her eyes at Dorcas and slowly took a seat on the grass opposite.
"Nah. I'd rather talk to you."
"Oh", Dorcas shut her book, "Didn’t realise you wanted to actually talk."
"About us."
"There's an us?"
Marlene bit her lip, nervously pulling out a few blades of grass, "Well I want there to be an us."
"Oh."
"Do you?" Marlene carefully asked, "Think about being an us?"
Dorcas lightly bumped her leg against Marlene's, "Yeah, occasionally. Sometimes. Quite often."
Marlene grinned, faint blush littering her cheeks, "Class. Do you, uh, want to go on a proper date this weekend then?"
"Yeah, go on then."
Marlene instantly lit up, and Dorcas turned away to hide her own smile.
